How are your symptoms now I'm 26 and having the same problem
Reply
My daughter 15 years, has be diagnosed with Autoimmune Progesterone Dermatitis.Basically they say she is having a allergic like reaction to her own hormones. Her symptoms begin with feeling nauseous, her hands start to tingle, then her skin begins to burn and starts to itch and finally she breaks out in severe hives...always a day before her period. This has been happening for over a year. She was put on Birth Control continuously (no week break) to stop her period. This worked for 6 months, but now hives, welts and blisters all over her last week. I feel desperate to help my child, if anyone has any information please let me know.

I'm 21 years old, i remember, having hives when i was 13 or 14 i thought the cause was these new sweat pants i had been wearing that had the elastics in the bottoms and they ended in the middle of my calves. They went away, until Sept 2015, They started breaking out across my body in random patches from my jaw and ears, to my ankles, only one area at a time every few hours, as I'm writing this i have an area that broke out on the underside of my left arm. I don't know what is causing them, i have not tried taking a daily anti histamine, i have seasonal allergies, the calamine lotion soothes it. They seemed to stop when i left my current apartment for a week, and then shortly after i came back they reappeared. Shortly after they stopped completely and they have just recently resurfaced, my period is due any day. i don't know if mine are tied to my hormones. At first they just appeared every day, maybe 3 hours between out breaks, for around 6-8 weeks, starting middle of September.. any one have any idea? sorry its all over the place my ADD jumps around the place.

Theresa, how did u get a diagnosis? My 10yo daughter started her period 3 months ago and has gotten hives every time since! Her pediatrician basically laughed at the idea of this being hormone related, suggested she was allergic to the pads and told me to seek out an allergist if I am concerned. I'm really worried for her as the 1st breakout spread into one big giant welt that covered her entire trunk! The doc attributed that to an unknown virus her body was rejecting. I now know that is NOT the case! Any advise or info would be greatly appreciated. Wishing you and your daughter the best!

You are really sweet. Thank you for trying to help others. I'm gona try a few things you mentioned and see how it goes. Gluten has made the hives worse so I stay away. Making my own juice and drinking that only as a fast worked too.

Dear all,
I am comforted to find a chat like this. I am 34 and have been getting hives some 15 years now, I didn't know what they were but over the years have done my own analysis and have found that stress and the imbalance it causes is the number 1 factor of hives, it can be caused by stress through a number of ways, so school work or having a baby or getting married or problems at work that you may not even be aware is bothering you on a psychological level to cause you to internalize and stress. I have found solutions with Allegra and other antihistamines I have had to go to the emergency room for an occasional hydrocortisone shot which really calms the nerves down and make it stop but I realized I couldn't live like that and through prayers realized that I had to find ways to deal with anxiety and stress otherwise hives would always be a part of my life. By chance I went to visit a chiropractor and he did an analysis that showed that my body wasn't dealing with stress as it should and that something may be out of alignment. I went for a session and the hives I had immediately went away, wish i could say they never came back but it is nothing like it was before... I also failed to follow up with sessions to the Chiro because I was so pleased the hives stop bothering me. But I will have to do more sessions. I find that alignment along with exercise and a more alkaline diet keeps them away without the annoying medication that makes you feel sleepy. As for the hives related to period week, I get those too and I found that whenever my hemaglobin level is low, all hell breaks loose , so I get headaches and insomnia and the hives all before my period but then if I top up on feroglobin and other such vitamins I have a good and pain free cycle. So ladies it boils down to keeping your bodies at that perfect balance for a comfortable and hive free life. Make it a lifestyle and you will see the results for yourself. Hope this helped...starting with the Chiropractor can give you some immediate relief.

Have your progesterone checked- it may be low, causing allergy symptoms.

Hey! I have the EXACT same thing as you... i'm 27 and this has been happening for about 5 years. No doctor could tell me what was the issue and instead diagnosed me with "idiopathic urticaria/anaphylaxis" and I carry an epi-pen. I've had two major episodes where I ended up in hospital. I experienced all symptoms on anaphylactic shock minus the breathing problems.

Have you had any updates on your problems? I live on daily antihistamines too :(

about 15 years ago i got a really bad sunburn too..that is when it started for me. i had allergy tests done thinking it was a reaction to something..nope!! 15 years of this and now i think i have this figured out!! my allergist did tell me non to take Benadryl often. Benadryl will cause liver damage. Try Zyrtec.. it doesnt make you drowsy and helps them fade. Benadryl is really good though to help you sleep when theyre at their worst. So glad im not alone!!
