The first time I got hives was 2 days after my grandmother passed away. Now for the past six months I also notice a spike about three days before I start my period. It's an intense itching, followed by heat and then the breakout all over my thighs and abdomen. I also experience intense itching, warmth and hands that swell up as hard as rocks. My regiment is Zantac & Zyrtec with the occasional Benadryl if it's a massive breakout. Stress is also a major factor. My doctor can't pinpoint the cause either and it's frustrating. I do have endometriosis, uterine tumors and ovarian cysts so I'm not sure if that's what's causing the hives as well. No one in my family has ever experienced this either so I'm at a loss. It's really a hard thing to go thru because you're always drowsy and always worrying about when you'll break out. It really takes a toll on your life.

Get on birthcontol it took mine away for 9 years. I took yazmine for one year. Now I am 53 and they are back again because I am post menopausal. I have had these since 1 year after after my first child in 1984. I was 21. They always came back when I started my period . @ that time I had them for 3 yrs covered everyday when I became pregnant they went away. So it took over 30 yrs 3 children several drs to figure it out. I do not like to be on BC again but the hives are miserabl .

I get this too and have for 2-3 years. I'm 40, so I guess it could be early sign of menopause.

Hi, I also get hives prior to my menstrual cycle. It took 3 years for a doctor to tell me I have a low thyroid. My family doctor told me my levels were normal but I knew something was wrong so I saw a natropath and immediately when she saw my labs she asked did your doctor tell you, you have low thyroid? I let her know his response and she recommended I go see an endocrinologist. I lost weight and am almost back to my normal weight. During my research in the internet I read that "BLACK WALNUT" can reduce hives and it worked for me!!. I used Nature's Sunshine and am completely satisfied. When I run out the itching starts a few days later... so it's best to always have a bottle handy. You gotta love Amazon! I hope you few better soon.

Can you tell me the name of the site? I have been trying to work out this for a few years now. It appears the only time it happens is when I on my period or due on. It also gets worse when I exercise and I have even ended up in hospital as its caused my face and lips and throat to swell as well as the itchy skin rash

I was told by my allergist that steroids should never be used to treat hives. I was treated successfully with hydroxyzine.

I have learned that the only way to control mine, has been to be on the birth control, it was either that or to actually get pregnant. Here is the the thing, we are all different and we need to realize that what works for one may not work for everyone. I am glad that I found my answer. I have had these since I was 15. I have had the lips swell and everything else you can imagine. While trying to find the right birth control we learned that a high dose BC really breaks me out. But we have found what works an IUD for those whom want to know. I am now almost 38 yrs old and just got my second one put in because with in one month of the first running out I began to break out again. Hang in there find what works for you and stick with it. Prayers for you all! Stay strong and know you not alone!

I also experience hormonal hives. After being treated by both a dermatologist and an allergist neither of which were able to help, I went back to my PCP who perscribed me 25 mg Hydroxyzine 3 x day. Worked wonders! Now that my hives are under control, most days, I only need to take one 25mg pill in the morning. During those days right before my period, if I start to feel an outbreak, I will then take another 25mg dose and it always stops it. Hydroxyzine may not work for everyone one but it's simple enough to try!
