My son had his pituitary removed a year ago this April. He has been in and out of the hospital, due to his sodium levels being to high or to low. They can't get him leveled. He does ok for a week or two and then in a second his levels can be off. He can't really do rehab because one of his steroids causes his legs and feet to swell. Does anyone have any answeres?

HI Phyllis,
How old is your son? Did they give him any hormone supplements before the surgery? I think that it is advised to take hormonal supplements before surgery so your body can adjust to them. It is often hard to adjust the levels of sodium after the surgery and it is a process that can last long. Have you considered finding a new doctor? Maybe just to get a second opinion from him or a new treatment method.
Did he had any other complications after the surgery? What diet is he on. I know kelp is filed with sodium, but not really shore is it a part of the diet for patients with pituitary surgery recovery.
Good luck,
Marco
