Do you stay in shape? I'm curious to hear what people here do to stay fit. Personally, I like to mix it up. I get very bored with things very quickly, so I try to do a lot of different things: a little martial arts, a little weight training, a little yoga, a little kettlebell, just about anything really. I think it helps keep me in really good shape. What do you do?
Well to be honest I'm really not in great shape. I have 4-5 ponds that I've would like to get rid of. I rid bicycle and do some exercise, bicycle almost every day, but exercises only few days a week. I try to eat healthy, with lot of fruit and vegetables.

I used to be near fanatical about weight training. However, due to issues with medication and mental health, thats kind of gone out of the window :-( I really need to get back into that.

I am one of those very blessed people who got great genes when it comes to physical fitness. I constantly have people telling me that I am "fit." However, I don't do anything outside of my normal daily activities. I am pretty fast paced, i.e.walking, moving, but I don't do anything else. My dad is naturally muscular and I have a son that is built the same way. I am not built like a guy at all, but when I am within my normal weight, I am lean. I am not skinny, just lean. I am so thankful for this. I enjoy some activities, especially bike riding, but I don't do it that often.

Ian, don't beat yourself up about not being in shape due to mental health concerns. Your brain is going to last longer than your body, so good on you for taking care of that first and foremost! That is the way to better physical health anyway. In fact, when you're depressed, it makes things much more difficult for you to even exercise, so if you don't take care of that first, you won't have the energy (mentally) to exercise. Don't beat yourself up! Just start small. Start now even! Maybe do jumping jacks while reading this ;-)

Hi,
well dsdesk is very lucky, your genes help you a lot. :-) Sometimes it is far more important that you have good genes and that you don't have to work so hard to keep your body fit. Some people are doing everything that they can and still no result, and some are just not even trying and have great body. Well this is a blessing. :-)
And Ian you just need to keep it simple and nice, keep it in normal limits.
I also heard that you can do amazing things with a fitness ball. Anyone has any experience?

Ian, I agree with the healthnfitnessguy. Don't beat yourself up. Do what you can for now. Take it a day at a time, you'll get to where you want to be. Just take your time. The stress over not exercising is not good for you either. If you are taking care of those other things, the other part will come for you. You should be proud that you are in touch with your other concerns and you are working on them as well. Please keep me updated on how you are doing.

Lol, i wasn't expecting people to be so supportive (on a support forum Ian?? Never!) :-D Thankyou.

The problem is mind and body are both linked, meaning if one fails, the other suffers too. This can actually turn into a vicious cycle that is hard to break. Its the healthy balance that needs to be made with a health body and healthy mind that makes people truely 'healthy' as a whole.

Sadly, i am having trouble maintaining either at the moment %-)

Mind and body do make one thing. And if one is broken then other is not good either. So having balance between this thing is important in many cases. If you have very healthy body it is much easier to have healthy mind.
If you want to have healthy body, you need to do it with your mind. Tell your self what do you really want and how do you want to do it.

Hey Ian:
I am glad that you feel supported here. You didn't mention if you were getting or seeking out any emotional support. If not, there are public support groups for all kinds of concerns. Have you done that. It would be really helpful to you. Let me know if you need any suggestions about support group ideas. If that is not attractive to you, do you have someone in your family or close to you that can be a positive support and still be objective? I hope you are being supported. Let me know.
