Hello,
I’m 17 year old female, and I’m 5’6 weighing around 165 pounds and I really want to lose at least 15 to 20 pounds because this extra weight I’m carrying around I believe has had a big impact on my self confidence. Even though I feel like I’m sociable person, I can really show that to only very close circle of friends who I feel won’t be judging me just because the way I look.
One of my good friends suggested I try 17 day diet, which means basically switching up on foods you eat every 17 days in order to sort of re-wire your metabolism, but i’d appreciate if anyone could give me any more detailed info on how this diet exactly works and is it effective?
Hi,
17 day diet, or Moreno diet, works on the basic principle you said - your metabolism is supposed to learn to adapt to you adding new foods and switching up your diet. This is not something that is scientifically proven, but, on the other side, each 17 day cycle has it's list of allowed foods and it mostly consists of eliminating carbs heavily at first. In this phase you're basically supposed to eat lean meat, very little fruit and only some of the healthy fats. No alcohol or sweets are allowed.
In later stages you slowly are allowed to eat some of the carbs, such as whole grain foods, fruits and veggies which makes it easier. You are also supposed to do like 15 minutes of exercise each day.
Hi,
just to add to your explanation, it's not as much that you completely switch up your diet each 17 days, it's more that more food get on the allowed list, mainly fruits and vegetables and the rules in later stages become less strict than they initially were (for example you can have cheat meals and such.)
One more thing is, before you start 17 day or Moreno diet, you can choose the diet plan based on the level of effort you're able to dedicate to the diet and the amount of weight you need to lose. There are three levels, and higher levels are, obviously, more strict than initial ones.
