Heyyyyy... I am wondering about diabetes, blood sugar readings, and what is a high reading?  I am curious because I was at my grandma's last week and I saw her doing her blood sugar check on this meter.  I watched real careful as she did it.  When she went to go to the store, I decided to try to do mine, since I was bored with nothing to do at the time.  I found that I had a reading of 150.  Is that a high reading?  How high should it be or how low too.  I was freaking out a bit because hers was 124 when she did hers, so mine was higher than hers.  I presume hers was normal because she didn't do anything about it.  Can someone let me know if I should be concened or go to the doctor about it?  I don't want to be diabetic at the age of 22.  I know she can't eat different foods so that would be a bummer if I can't eat what I want.  Thanks for the help.

It all depends on how long it was since you ate and what you ate.  You should be ok if you had a meal within the last two hours of checking it.  If you didn’t have anything to eat, however, you will want to check it again and see what you get.  If your result is anything higher than 100 in the morning before you eat, it could mean you have pre-diabetes or diabetes.  If you have a blood sugar over 180 mg/dl two hours after you eat, this may also indicate diabetes.  You would then need to go to the doctor and have an A1c drawn to determine if you are diabetic.  Hopefully, you will not have a high reading from your grandmother’s meter again.
