Hi:

It seems that you have depression more than anything else.

As an old timer, I advise you to get a blood test vitamin D3.

If low, by taking some injections, your entire problem may be solved.

Best regards,

Ali

I have suffered from panic attacks for over 25 years, and although you feel like you are losing control, panic attacks will not kill you, even if it feels like it. With the right medication like Xanax and support of doctors, family and friends, they will eventually pass. They seem to last forever but really only last around 15 mins or 30 mins. It is the hardest thing to explain to anyone as they cannot see it like a broken arm. Stay strong, breath through you nose - not mouth, hold for 10 secs and breathe out. Give your panic attacks a name like "IT". Don't let IT enter you life. Even talk to IT and say NO YOU ARE NOT WANTED, GET OUT OF MY LIFE. Blessing to all who suffer this aweful illness.

I have suffered from Anxiety & Panic attacks for the past 30 years, and I will say that these attacks can last for hours. A previous psychiatrist told me that it is caused by multiple attacks instead of just one single attack. If a person cannot calm themselves down (such as myself); that it causes the brain and body to have multiple attacks...meaning one attack after another...which makes you feel like it has never went away. I have tried so many techniques & the only 1 I have found helpful if I can relax myself enough is to find something to do that keeps my mind off of it.

Right now I am having what is called multiple anxiety/panic attack, and it has caused my blood pressure to go up and making me feel that fear feeling (the dread that something will happen). So, I thought writing to others would help by letting you know that they do last longer than you think.

I am also a Psychology student (well was). I have my Associate of Arts in Psychology, and most of my Bachelors in Science in Psychology, and in all the courses I have taken that talk about anxiety and panic disorders (attacks included); these multiple attacks are included.

I am not sure if anyone will find what I wrote helpful, but I am sure hoping so!!!!

Good luck to all of you & yes even myself...lol. Throwing that lol in there to hopefully get my mind off my attack(s) !! o.O%-)

I am new to this site which I discovered whilst investigating panic attacks. I note that your entry was over a year ago and I hope that you have been better since then. I, along with the medical profession, are having difficulty in deciding whether I am experiencing panic attacks or whether it is an actual respiratory/heart attack as I have had both. I have been told that panic attacks do not last for as long as five hours but it seems from this site that they can last even longer. My symptoms are different though in that I end up on my knees having to lean over a chair and I lose bladder control, I cannot breath, sweat profusely from the head with my hair becoming completely soaked, and I cannot see properly (it's as if there is a veil in between myself and the person in front of me). Your post touched me because you are so very young and I sincerely hope that you have found the road to recovery since logging your condition. Obviously, it goes without saying that you are depressed - who wouldn't be in your circumstances? However, from reading your post it appears to me that you are suffering more from on-going anxiety and depressive condition and this may trigger panic attacks at times. Re the sickness, ask your doctor if he/she would prescribe you an anti-emetic called Cyclizine which I find to be an amazing anti-sickness drug. Also, I don't know if you are male or female but I am wondering about your comment that you "usually get a week or so of feeling okay every month". If you are female part of it may be connected to hormones too, particularly if you suffer menstrual problems anyway. Whether male or female, seek a referral to a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist who will work with you to reprogramme your thought patterns. Yours is definitely not just isolated to panic attacks as it takes up three weeks out of every month. Maybe a hypnotherapist might help too. I do wish you well. You have your whole life ahead of you and should not have to be tortured with such a condition. I wish you all the very best.

I couldn't agree more. It is the medical profession which needs consulting and I find it rather concerning that anyone would recommend relying on religion or blaming evil for an individuals condition. My heart goes out to you that you went through that whilst raising three small children single-handedly. That in itself would bring on an anxiety attack for many. The fact that you got through it whilst raising those three children is a testimony to your strength and character. Indeed there is nothing wrong with medicine if they improve qualify of life.

My panic attacks can continuously roll from one to another. It can go on all day without letup. On one occasion I had to be hospitalised for a week to stop it. I am having a bad one today with multiple attacks but having said that, each year after that stint in hospital I am very slowly improving.

I have had panic attacks for about 16 years. At first they lasted 5minutes to 30 minutes. Today I can go months or a year ,once even 2 years symptom free, and then WHAM, it hits me.. except now the attacks last hours or weeks and a few times lasted 1 to 3 months! I heard this is anxiety attack if it is longer in duration..vs an acute panic attack. sometimes medicine helps ,sometimes it just barely takes the edge off.
