Hello again,

Just updating from the other day.  I'm now on day 6 and everything has been good.  I laid around the first 2 days and I think that was more annoying than anything else so far.  I like to exercise and sitting around has been frustrating.

I just went out to jog this morning and all was well.  I went for a walk the past couple days, too.  I had no swelling that I could see.  I kept ice on everything for the first 2 days.  I have yet to take any pain meds.

And to correct my above post, I actually had the single incision procedure.  There wasn't any burning. He just tied everything off.  The mark just looks like a small red dot.  Looks like it will disappear after a while.  I have some bruising, but not bad at all.

It's more just general discomfort or a dull ache. But definitely not something distracting.  If I'm working or doing something else, I don't notice it.  I took a shower yesterday and things felt pretty normal.

So far so good.  I would definitely recommend it.  Like I said before, I would rather have a vasectomy than a tooth cleanng!

I had my vasectomy on Thursday last week, some 4 days ago now. I have been using this site to see how I’m going against other experiences and thought it only right that I report back also.

Well the surgery itself was not too bad, had the no needle / no scalpel option with incisions on both sides. I did not like being awake and would recommend as others have posted to use vallium or something (wish I had). The left side was done first and felt uncomfortable but bearable, the right side was next and was not fully numb so needed the old fashioned needle to top up the anaesthetic although did not really feels this.

After I got up felt uncomfortable in left side but no real problem with right side. Wife drove me home and I stayed on the reclining sofa for the next few days using ice / paracetamel and IB with everyone running around after me - milk it while you can and for as long as you can :)

First day after; uncomfortable, especially left side - stayed on my back and pain med every 4 hours with occasional ice, got a bath in the morning to soak the bandage away. Some spotting of blood from left incision but soon went away.

Second day after: pain much worse in the afternoon - constant feeling of being kicked in the nuts in the left side, that feeling you get in your stomach so re iced and early to bed.

Third day after : much better and that pain in left side although still there much much less noticeable, took meds and decided to try out gently on the wife that night, really scary but all OK except the boys were still too tender and should not have done this. Was desperate to see if plumbing all ok though. The deed went well although my balls very tender on the pumping shots (would recommend waiting longer).

Day 4: a bit tender from the previous night but the release has made a difference, can’t put my finger on it but things seem much better, that kick in the balls feeling has ‘nearly’ gone and just tender ones now from last night, glad I did it but if I had my time again would have waited a bit longer or careful masturbation to release that pressure.

Not noticed any real swelling from day one, the stitches are a right pain 'in the balls' :) and will be glad when they are gone.

Will update again in a day or two to help all those who have just had it done and are worried about PVPS as I was and still am a bit as not out of the woods yet :)

Funny that everyone I speak to says it’s no big deal and was fine in a couple of days, must have short memories is all I can think

Just wanted to give my experience post vasectomy. Day 1 - Operation Day I had my operation as an outpatient. The surgery was performed by a local GP that comes in to the hospital every Thursday and performs a vasectomy every 15-30 minutes! I went in the operating room where I met the surgeon (GP) he did not really talk to me and I was looked after by a male and female nurse. I advised that I had varicocele that was quite bad and some damage from an incident when I was in the army from when I was 16/17. He said you'll be fine. He injected me on the right side which hurt quite bad. He then proceeded with the operation. I felt everything and when the clamp went on they had to physically restrain me to the table! The surgeon (GP) said he needed to carry on as he had started, but basically the local did not have any effect!. He then moved on to the left side, the same again but this time he injected me in to the vas as well once he had opened me up and said he usually would not do that. The same pain again, he also noted the damage and fluid above my testicle and the pretty bad varicocele which he pointed out to someone doing training (I was not asked if I was OK with the trainee being there) he said well I need to just carry on anyway and did so. I can't tell you how painful this was, I felt everything and I should mention that when I was 15 I was knocked off my bike and needed months of very intense surgery on my periodontal bone due to damage and infection. From this experience it was noted that I don't really react to anesthetic, I also had some of this work re-done two years ago and the same thing again. I need very powerful anesthetic to block the pain with many injections, I am also resistant to many antibiotics. I advised the surgery of this but I guess it was not passed along. I also advised of the damage I suffered to the groin which makes me very sensitive down there. This is in my medical records too. After the surgery my wife drove me home where I rested for the rest of the night. I was told not to use ice and to just wear tight underwear and rest and if needed take Ibuprofen. I bought some that also have Codeine with them but the Codeine made me ill so had to just use the standard and paracetamol. I slept OK that night although it was not comfortable.

Day two

Day two was full of pain, unbelievable pain and swelling and bruising. I stayed inactive and rested.

Day three

Day three was very much the same again. I decided to try out the plumbing that night with the help of my wife as I was very worried and anxious about the results. Everything was fine with very little pain caused.

Day 4

More pain, and more pain again. Things were just getting worse!

Day 5

On day five I felt a little better. I wanted to try out the plumbing that night again and got a bit carried away and had very light sex with my wife. Everything felt fine but afterwards I got severe pain in my penis and abdomen. Took some more pain medication and some sleeping pills to knock me out, nothing major just some over the counter sleep aids.

Day 6

Day six I went back to work, a 2.5hr drive, by the time I got there I felt like c**p and had to go the local walk in health center. I was sure some of the lumps and bumps around my left testicle had not been there before the op and I was very worried. I was checked out very briefly by a female nurse and told all was well. I was surprised as it is difficult to make things out on my left side due to the trauma I suffered there years ago and the varicocele is quite large. I went back to work and went home that evening in agony.

Day 7

Day seven I decided to go to the local sports center to pick up a proper athletic support. They did not have one so had to go the shopping mall. I managed to get to the store and bought one but then got stuck as the pain meant I just could not walk any more. Some people from the pharmacy saw my distress and helped me out. I got home and put the athletic support on, wow what a difference! I went to my GP but it took me so long to get from my car to the office that I got there 4 mins too late and they wouldnt see me!

Day 8

I woke up not feeling to bad, I went to the kitchen to try and do some cleaning. Well 10 mins later the pain hit and I collapsed on the floor. I couldnt get up and had to wait for my wife to come back from dropping the kids off at school. I went back to the GP. He said I was just healing but after a bit of pushing he prescribed me some antibiotics and some Tramadol. Iv'e never taken Tramadol before and must say they didnt make me sick but did make me very high and the pain although still there just did not seem to matter anymore. By the evening I felt 10x better!! The antibiotics must have made a difference and all I can say is that I must have had some kind of infection.

Day 9

Day nine was great, had a meeting in the city and had no problems at all besides a little pain. I'm still walking like John Wayne but think this is out of fear to be honest. My wife bought a bottle of wine but I decided not to have any after looking up the meds online. Had sex with my wife, very light and easy but I can say it was great. A bit anxious but it was fantastic. I have to say that I think the internet is full of horror stories which caused me a lot of distress. I just could not help constantly googling to find out more. My advice would be to give yourself much longer than they say. Get some antibiotics just in case. Wear a proper scrotal support and ask lots of questions. Expect more pain than people say. And stay away from the internet forums and the websites with the horror stories! I would not discourage anyone from having this procedure but I have to say I think if I knew what to expect I would likely have waited for the male pill to arrive to be honest. I became very upset about the thought of chronic pain for the rest of my life, I'm 29 with two children, been with my wife for 12 years and our sex life has just hit its peak, I was so worried that I would not be able to fulfill my wife anymore and that my life was doomed. My wife reacts badly to birth control and since ceasing it has dropped 2 stone in weight and is back to her teen weight and size, I wanted to do the right thing and take the procedure with less impact. Its early days but I think I'm going to be fine and dont regret it but it was not at all what I expected, I was told 2-3 days and you will be back to normal. I think if I had been told it could take much longer I would have been much more mentally prepared for it. I'm still getting pains but its to be expected, I also think it will take a while for my body to begin to absorb more sperm than usual so will likely get that full feeling but I've had that before and it should be no big deal.

I hope this is helpful to someone. I wrote it up because I think when you get to day 5 or 6 and you feel worse than day 1 it can be distressing. If you are in that situation then there is hope that all will be well and don't go reading the chronic pain stories because it will only make you worse.

continuation; day 5: Again things getting better, went to work for just a half day and although uncomfortable when getting up not too bad - still tender with that feeling in the stomach every now and then day 6: again still improving, stitches on right side great. That night though went to toilet and found stitches on left side had 'leaked' and cause me to stick to my underwear. Not pleasant but cleaned myself up and all well day 7: had the morning off work and decided to try out tackle again, not bad at all although balls still tender which would prevent any 'proper' sex with the wife. day 8: managed to get a little sleep on my front for the first time ( great ) thought about sex with wife but decided against. Every day is certainly getting better but I’m still tender in the balls with the left side the tenderest. Day 9: again a slow improvement but that left side still a bit tender to touch, if it had healed at same rate as right would say just about back to normal now. will post back in another week to advise if all sorted and how long it took. Shame the docs don’t give more info on how long / what to expect. I was just told a few days and back to work !

just updating my story, so it has been 17 days post op. i still have dull aches time to time almost not noticeable. the hair growing is the worst.

i'd recommend men who wants to do this not to shave the whole thing like i did, just shave the spot under the base of your penis. hair growing back is the worst discomfort. i have had sex 2 times since the operation, both times were great no discomfort that i noticed. although, my balls seems to tug or shrunk up a lot, not sure if this normal. other than that, i am feeling great.

I had my procedure done yesterday. The procedure was not too bad in itself. I did feel some pain in the injection, but tolerable. I did notice some pain when he started, and he just added some more local and it was ok. There was some wierd tugging and pulling going on but all done withing 20 min. I could smell the buring when they cotorized the vass.

Last night I iced on and off and took a couple pain meds. This morning I took off work just because. I feel pretty good a little dull soreness, but nothing bad. No brusing, very little to no swelling, and one single little stich in the middle. I feel like I'm ready to get on with my day, but I'll heed my nurses warnings and horror stories so I'll give my boys a days rest, and no working out or smooshing for a week.

I had a traditional vasectomy (2 cuts, 1 on each side with stitches) done on Friday - I'm writing this on the Monday following so exactly 72 hours later. I did not get my prescription filled as I felt virtually no pain afterwards. I did take Advil Friday evening and all day Saturday but none on Sunday. I did not use ice or anything cold as there was minimal swelling. Quite a bit of bruising but it only looks bad, no pain with it. I've had minimal discomfort not really enough to be classified as "pain". I did have my wife go out and buy some boxer-briefs as my traditional boxers were not providing any support. That helped a lot. The worse thing now is the itchiness from having to shave my nads! And I'm anxious for a full week to pass so I can once again resume my sex life. :-)

Injection to numb area felt like a light pinch, all the angusih during the proceedure was menal.  The 'discomfort' i can only describe as someone messing with a string that connects the top of your head to the tip of your toe.  You know its there and you know it shouldn't be poked at.  After the anisthetic wore off there was a dull roar of pain in the whole area.  With ice and rest i felt no pian.  I only other issue was some tenderness when i got up to walk around a bit.  Very small amount of 'oozing' from wound (less than 1 drop of blood).  Like i said the worst part was the idea that someone was cutting up my boys.

Update 18/10/12

I just wanted to update everyone from this post. Not long after my post I began to feel incredible pain! I woke up each night with crazy pain and have not slept much at all. Have not been able to do anything over the last 3 weeks. Went back to my doctor and he has not said much. I'm now at 22 days post op and today is the first day I have felt OK.

My general advice would be no matter how well you feel stay inactive for 3-4 weeks, although I did not do much I'm sure that just walking did damage to the healing process (I guess I'm a slow healer). Although warm baths helped with the pain they tended to make things a little too relaxed and so getting out of the bath brought incredible pain! I'm sticking to showers for the next few months.

I had issues with orgasms being pretty rubbish. I'm sure this is down to the pain medication even though I had not had any on those days I think the effects stay with you for a day or two afterwards.

I've had to do a fair but if driving these last two weeks too which will not have helped. I'm on the train to London as I write this so here's hoping I don't get knocked when on the bloody tube!!

Take care and do t read horror stories!

Well, this is my experience so far.

I had the procedure last Wednesday afternoon. Had the no scalpel option with only a small keyhole key the front of the scrotum with no stitches done. The local needle didn't really hurt, only like a small bee sting really. But then as he was working the pain was unbelievable. I thought I was going to throw up from the pain, I could feel everything that he was doing. He then gave me more local and continued on the right side first. I could feel tugging and pulling but did not feel any pain.

Stupid me agreed to some students coming in and observing. I think that with all the talking, the local started to wear off when he did the left side. As he started he touched soemthing or did something that cuased me to almost fly of the bed whilst kneeing the doc in the head. He gave me more local to ease the pain. For the remainder of the procedure, all I could feel was him squeezing the c**p out of my left testicle, or at least that is what it felt like.

Procedure done, I drove myself home and rested on the couch for the rest of the afternoon and evening icing my balls 3 minutes on, 3 minutes off. They gave me antibitoics to take, and that night I took some Panadol to ease the pain. The pain after the first 3 - 4 hours was fairly painful, like someone had kicked me in the balls.

Day 2, Thursday, I stayed home to rest, and iced my balls all day. The swelling and brusing was amazing. My nads were the size of a tennis ball and very very tender to touch.

Friday I went to work, as I had several meetings. In hindsight I should have stayed home on Friday also. But I tried to take it as easy as possible. The pain was just a contstant dull ache like I had been hit in the balls, and the pain went as far as my lower abdomen.

Saturday and Sunday was dull aching on and off. I tried to take it easy with no lifting or anything strenuous.

It is now Monday and day 6 effectively. This morning I felt great, tiny bit of tenderness, but I could walk and sit without much discomfort. This afternoon the pain is building up a little, not as bad as the last few days, but I know it is there.Swelling has gone, and only a little bruising remains, but still a little dull ache.

Hopefully all goes away this week....

Yeah... I hear that tubal litigation is very expensive, and there is no need to involve an attorney. Tubal LIGATION on the other hand is much more affordable and less time consuming. On the serious side though, tubal ligation is more invasive than a vasectomy, and unless performed at the time of delivery of a child, is probably the least desirable of the two options. I'm into day 3 of recovery (it's Monday afternoon and the procedure was done Friday morning), and the pain has started to go away. I'm following doctor's instructions to the T. Ice on, ice off, Lortab first two days, day three IB only, jock strap on all the time except while sleep (briefs to still give some support). Feels very similar to blue b***s. First ejaculation this morning, and it did increase pain a little, but not unbearable. Maybe a touch sooner than I should have, and expected, but what do you do when the wife shows an interest??? YOU TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE MOMENT!!!

I had mine 2 years ago and have pain and discomfort every day.  Seen three Urologists with not much help.  The only thing that seems to help take the edge off the pain for me is a pain med called Nuycenta....

At this point I can safely say I do regret having this vasectomy done....
