I too have Bells Palsy, and I am getting married in October. So Scary! I started antibiotics, and steroids, and I am also seeing a chiropractor 3 times a week. I have had it for a week and a half, and I already am seeing improvements. Muscles in my face are starting to move, and I also have facial messages twice a week to stimulate the muscles. Don't sit and wait!!! If you act on it, you can sill smile at your wedding!!!

Im 17 years old and its my senior year of high school, right at the end of the year during my senior prom & graduation ceremony did this decide to occur. Sadly i have also lost my job due to this condition, talk about stress! Im 7 weeks into it now and still unable to smile completely. I take it day by day, and i cant help but chuckle at myself when i look in the mirror. I have a great support system here at home and couldnt be more thankful.

I have had Bells for 2 weeks. I woke up one morning with total paralysis on the right side of my face. I completed the all the medication as prescribed. There is still no improvement. I feel tired all the time, can't drink from a glass, can't close my right eye, my speech is horrible, and I can't smile. This makes working difficult. I'm a nurse and I deal with people all day. But I find the best thing is to have a positive attitude. I was told it could take anywhere from 3 weeks to 6 months. At this point any movement would be an improvement.

I'm a newbie to BP as I have only had it for about 8 days now. I am extremely thankful that my case is actually quite mild in comparison to what I have seen and read about on the net. Still, I have difficulty with my lips - I can drink from a glass, but bottles are not happening yet - I have loss of taste on one side, which makes everything taste like metal (?), although I did notice I could taste just a tiny bit this morning on the affected side. The thing that I'm finding really sucks about Bp is the eye not being able to close all the way. Again, my case seems mild, so I can close it almost all the way, but I cannot blink at all, just a slight squint. During the day it gets very dry and hurts sometimes, so I was given an eye gel and some 'real tears' drops from a doctor at the emergency room.  My smile is hilarious! I sneer like Billy Idol :) That's the big thing I've found  - just breath and keep living your life as best you can; bell's recovery and severity is different for all who suffer it but one thing that's the same for all of us is this: we have no control over it at all. So I figure, why stress about it constantly during my waking hours?

Anyways, peace to all who are recovering - I hope your journey has a happy ending.

I love people like you - caring, compassionate, tactful. So you are a bloody hero, so what? Not everyone can cope the same, some are afraid, like me at age 70 - it was supposed I'd had a stroke at first, some have a low pain threshhold. Bet you'd tell someone with a broken leg to suck it up and go for a long walk!!

I am a 19 years old girl and i am suffering from Bell's Palsy, and now its 4 months running.. it's not improving.. Bell's Palsy recovery is too slow... when 2 months of my Bell's Palsy was running then some recovery started and till now its recovery is very slow.. i don't know how long it will last.? but i can't take it any more.. it gives so much pain and depression that first i stopped going college then one-day i attempted suicide.. this is very painful for a girl..  now if someone ask me, among Death and Bell's palsy what will u choose? i will choose Death..   daily i wake up in the morning and expect that today i will get my face back and run to the mirror but no improvement. >:( I daily pray to GOD that i just want my face back.. day by day i am getting mentally sick... but i am keeping my patience and looking forward to get my beautiful face back... pray for me friends.. i am just broken.. :-)

You have my sincere sympathy but do not give up. I had Bell's Palsy and in the first instance I took medication with little result. I then decided to let nature take it's course.
During that time I passed man and his 4 year old daughter in the street, the daughter said to her father, "Look at that man's funny face", causing the father to become embarrassed.
I thought that it was great as here was someone who did not look the other way as most people did. At that time I decided that I was not as badly off as a lot of other people were.
It did take a long time to recover 95% of facial mobility and about six years later I got it again but on the opposite side of my face.
This lasted only about 4 days and resulted in the minor imbalance of my features to be less noticeable.
My advice to you is that you should not let it worry you. The people with intelligence will understand that it is not something that you have deliberately caused and most people will just ignore it..
I know as a very distant memory when I was your age that I too would have been upset but being upset will not cure it. Having good friends will not either but it will ease the discomfort when out in their company.
Best wishes
Jack

As far as I know, Bell's palsy can be cleared for two weeks to four months :)

I have it also, today is my 10th week. I have improved a little bit, but I still can't smile or close my eye completely. my eye goes from dry to running & it makes driving a challenge. I took steroids, antibiotics & a 21 day course of ani virus drug, the Dr said that it is a "wait & see" issue here, chewing has gotten a little bit better & so has talking, but when I get tired or stressed out I can feel it more.. The key is to try & relax & not get yourself all fired up.. it only makes it worse
