OK, Update time, I have had BP since Sept 1st & only had a slight improvement, & by mid Dec. I was getting desperate... so I looked into acupunture.
Christmas eve was my 1st session & after I left I could allready feel improvement... so today was my 6th session & my mouth is functioning at about 90% again & the tearing of the eye has almost stopped. the first few sessions are straight acupuncture, then on the 5th they started using a mild stim to regenerate the nerves.. & it is working .. so if anyone is having any doubts.. do some research & give it a try.... they accept a lot of insurance now.. GOOD LUCK!

My girlfriend contracted Bell's in mid December 2013. she has had about 35% recovery. she feels that she has regressed a bit. is this a common occurance? can you get another attack during the recovery process? The biggest issuses for her are the eye isues a, inability to smile, and percieved facial disfigurement. I feel so bad for her.

I got bells palsy Mid Sept. 2012...This has been almost a year and a half. I have been recovering slowly and tried many diferent things. I noticed my eye closed at 6 months which was a relief, that was the hardest part! I can't smile or raise my eyebrow and my eye waters. The next thing to try is the cold laser therapy and I hope that helps! I hope to recover fully by the end of 2014. Warm wushes to all of you, it is tough even though most don't understand.

Hi Everyone! so happy I found this site! I got my BP 12 days ago and its been a whirlwind of emotions. The week before I got my BP I had been suffering from a reoccurance of panic attacks and had been trying paxil to see if it worked for me after a disaterous try with zoloft (awful). Was on Paxil .5mg for 5 days and thought all was going well, a little xanax to take the edge off...yep all was good. Then nght time came and I felt a burning on my face, like i had a sun burn...thought i was having another panic attack, so i took a xanax and tried to relax...finally the xanax kicks in but my face (left side) was hurting...I knew something was wrong. So thanks to my panic disorder, I went straight to the ER...thought I was having an allergic reactions!! Anyway, they put me on the anti viral pills, the presnidone, plus my paxil and a lot of Xanax!! UGH!!! As if a panic disorder was not enough! Then the neurologist had me wean off the presnidone after 7 days and my face flared up again!! I thought I was lucky cuz i caught this early, but my left eye did droop a bit and the side of my mouth and of course I am numb in my face. Now back on presnidone, I feel better and the swelling went down. What a nightmare! hahaha! I am a firm believer that what does not kill you makes you stronger!! More power to all of you for enduring this, I for sure didn't think i could, not with panic attacks plauging me..but I have learned I am strong and now not alone!!!!! :)

I was just stricken with Bell's Palsy 5 days ago, and was prescribed Prednisone by my doctor. I agree this infliction is very uncomfortable and can be embarrassing, but you can't spend valuable energy and time worrying about your paralysis. I am told by my doctor each person is different in regards to recovery, but over 90% of sufferers recover between 3 wks to 3 months. I work face to face with my clients and now wear an eye patch to work to protect my eye from getting infected and excessive drying. Your going to look crazy when you laugh and my friend tell and make jokes just to get me to laugh because I look deranged. You might want to step to the side when taking photos that's not cute either...lol. All and all it could be a lot worse so sit back and make the most of it, but don't stop living....80% of the population is familiar with Bell's Palsy and will be very understanding. YOU WILL SMILE AGAIN!!!!!

I was diagnoised w/Bells Palsy 7 wks ago. While I have recovered w/my facial symptoms, I am still dealing w/ear aches mostly. Yesterday I started having a bad headache on the same side. My question is....why does this pain come & go; am I doing or not doing something to make it re-occur. Does stress play into this condition? I thought I was over it last week, so I resumed my regular work schedule & day to day activities.

I've had bell's palsy for 8 straight years, I've got diagnosed at the age of 8. I've done what my doctor has told me to try and recover. I've taken inflammabletory pills like, ibuprofen and such but all it did was reduced the swelling which is good! That went down in short of amount of months!
Today, I still have Bell's palsy, I reckon it's a perminant paralysis that actually stayed there. everyday I stand behind my mirror and done regularly facial massages like my doctor adviced me to do, it still looks like the first day I got it!
When I smile, one side of the face looks droopy and I get very paranoid when people look at me because they ask questions That offends me. I love the way I am but everyone on this posts has recovered from Bell's palsy but I haven't Yet I don't know why.
my right eye is half way shut and my left is wide open when I smile and my speech still slurs. what should I do?
