Hello! I had shot of depro provera 1 year ago and I gained weigh (60 lbs in one year!) Horrible!!! And I didn’t change my eating habbits or anything. Also doctor told me there are no side effects to depo provera! So, my question now is: how soon do you lose weight after going of depo provera?

I know you posted this a year ago, but I am 17 and I have gained some weight on depo and I have te worst mood swings, ever! Why birth control did you switch to? Or do you had any better suggestions so I can lose this weight! I gained about 20 pounds! And I am tired of hating myself
I actually have had the exact same issue while taking Depo. I used to weigh about 130 or so, and I now weigh 160 (I have lost some of what I gained overall), and I've been on the shot for four years now. I run 4+ miles daily, and weight lift on alternating days, and I feel as though it's doing absolutely nothing. I've always been athletic and active, but now I feel as though I look fat and lazy. I also hate how I look now, and despite always being a cynic, I never experienced true clinical depression until I began taking this damnable birth control. I've found that the emotional side effects of the shot have been far worse than the physical ones, despite hating my weight gain, hair loss and skin problems. I truly hope that your situation has turned around and your body image is improving!
Hi, I know the original post is really old, but I wanted to share my story.I'm 28 and I stopped having the depo injection about nine months ago, I was only on it for 3 shots but the effects it has had on both my body and mind are unbelievable: I have had constant migraines that would last between 3 and 6 days then I would get 1 headache free day before another big migraine, I used to be a happy bubbly person however while I was on the depo I was so depressed and angry, the smallest things would make me fly off the handle. Before I went on the depo I weighed 8 1/2 stone, I now weigh 12.7 stone. I had regular anxiety attacks, which I was never prone to before; my mother suffers mental health problems and according to the depo website if a direct family member has any health issues i.e mental health or osteoporosis, which my mother also has then you should be warned that you have increased risk of these problems by having the depo (I was not told any of this by my GP or nurse)After starting the depo not only did my weight balloon, but my skin got really bad (both things I am trying to correct even now after 9 months) also my teeth started to decay unexpectedly, I've never been a big sweet eater in fact I barely eat sweets or drink fizzy drinks and yet I lost 3 teeth and a 4th had started to go (but hopefully it was caught in time to save it).I have always been an active person, I'm constantly on the move, dancing, working out (I'm a musical theatre performer, for crying out loud) and yet since having the depo I cannot seem to get the weight to shift. My period started up again last month and considering I was told it could take a year or more for that to happen I consider myself luck they came back so soon.I wish I had done my research before I went on the depo, it was a friend that convinced me to go on it, she's been on it for a lot longer than I have, and even though she has a lot of the side effects many have spoke about here and the side effects I myself I have suffered she will not come off it unless to have children. I am deeply saddened by what this injection has done to me, as someone who suffers a lack of self confidence anyway, the weight gain and bad skin and tooth decay has made it so that while it was tolerable to look in the mirror before, now I avoid the mirror - I will look in the mirror quickly to brush my hair or my teeth (which I do twice a day, by the way) or clean my face however I do what I need to do quickly and try not to look in reflective surfaces or it just makes me feel sad all over again (it also affects my performance abilities)Maybe one day I will have lost the weight and my skin and teeth will be back to normal and I can just forget about the depo, but until then I will always regret having the injection no matter how much of a pro not having periods is; one pro does not make up for all of the cons.
I have been on the shot for about four years now. I have gained 98 pounds while bein on it. I never had any other side effects except not having a period. I am changin to the para guard in September because it has no hormones involved and is better for your body and does NOT make you gain weight. My doc said that once I get the shot out of my system I will drop about 30 pounds fairly quick.
i would like to know the same thing. i took my last shot in may. i am done! i have took it for 2 yrs and have gained 80 pounds and i went into really bad depression. and i lostv alot of hair, my hair is so thin now compared to what it used to be. and i never listened to my body, i should have. but i am now! my bf told me his ex got off it and he said that she lost weight so fast you would think she was taking diet pills and excersizing every day. so i pray for us all that it drops quick.. nobody take it. cuz although no period is nice its not worth it. cuz u always are sick. losing hair. gaining weight. bitchy. and feel prego. and not having ur period alone more likely hurts ur body cuz we have it for a reason.
The depo shot was not for me.  I had 4 shots, figuring I'd give it a year, and it never really stopped my period.  Plus, I was spotting 15 out of 30 days per month. I got the shot because I really wanted to stop my periods but it didn't happen for me.  I also gained about 10 pounds.  I couldn't figure out where the weight gain came from.  I had always been the same weight.  When I noticed that I was gaining weight, I started going to the gym and eating better and I had no change in my weight.  It is very frustrating. My last shot was in June 2012.  I was supposed to have my next one Sept 2012.  I didn't get it and I am trying to patently wait for it to leave my system.  I want to lose this extra weight and feel like it is an uphill battle while the depo is still in my system.
I know this post is really really old, but posting this might make me feel better. I have been on the DEPO shot for about 2 years now, I am now 18years old. I use to weigh 110-120. I went to the doctor and I gained over 30pounds. I didn't know where it came from. I wondered everyday "When the heck did I let myself go". I didn't change my eating habits at all. But when I noticed the weight gain I started eating better, exercising more and just being more active period, it wasn't coming off.  A side from the weight gain I started to get depressed more, my headaches got worst and I didn't get my period at all. My next shot is in November and I don't plan on taking it. I hear that once you get back on your period you should lose weight fairly fast and easy and I hope that is true. I want to feel good and better about myself.

Hi there, i was on the depot for 2 years and put on about a stone and half of weight, i have now been off the depot for 6 months and have lost nearly a stone without changing my eating habits much! good luck!
I also had this problem with my hair. I continued to get the shot one more time after I noticed my hair falling out. Everyone told me this wasn't a big deal, however, I have half the amount of hair I used to have. Its awful.
Hi There i was on depo bsince june 13 2012 my last shot wears of 13 December 2012 have just been in hospital and was diagnosed with osteoporosis and i gained 6 kilos any out there on depo plse get off it thks
I got the depo August 25th 2012. it ran its ridiculous course and i stopped it after 3 months on November 3rd 2012. When i got my shot i had just lost 50lbs and started getting really healthy/eating healthy through hard work and exercise daily 3hrs /day 2x a day. I was on a good track and the depo screwed me up. After my shot i started bleeding really bad and the doc put me on estrogen pills 2mg daily for 21 days after 1 week they helped and i had no more trouble bleeding. Weeks after the end of my estrogen pills i started to get really sore breasts, headaches, lower back pain, trouble sleeping comfortably, nausea (really bad random times in the day) then the nausea went a way a little but i continuously gain weight no matter if i work out, eat right ive gained 35 of the 50lbs i lost. its ridiculous. Any who all the symptoms are back the only and i mean only place i have gained weight is in my stomach, i seriously look 8mo pregnant, its hard and pear shaped and my feet hurt no, have no energy, sleep all the time, and its not me at all. I never not have energy i am not depressed im nervous something is wrong. On top of everything for the last weeks ive been feeling a popcorn bubbly feeling off and on. and lower abdominal pain not like cramps. And worst of all I have gas and more gas and i cant stop burping. Ive been taking gas relief pills, and omeprazole it it NOT helping. Im suffering to no end, the doctors say they cant attribute anything to my weight gain and just refilled my prescription for anti-acids. they annoy me. I need help. I have taken pregnancy test 6 box ones over the course of the last 2 months and recently got an hcg blood test, the doctors after playing phone games with me told me it was less than 1% so it meant i wasnt pregnant. Can anyone HELP me please i beg of you this is driving me crazy. Its not like me to have no energy and all these problems. My family thinks im lying about being pregnant because i really look like i am and its embarrassing because its been confirmed that i am not. No doc ara being helpful i need other input, please i beg you! I am just as angry as a lot of people that have posted about the depo, the docs told me none of the side effects, nothing when i got it i went in for a pap smear and they reccomended i change my form of birth control to the depo. Im royally pissed too.
I only had one round of the shot and decided I didn't like it, so I got off. It took me two extra months to get my period again. When I first got it I had recently lost 15lbs and I weighed around 145lbs, and now I weigh 180... This is the heaviest I have ever been. I feel disgusting and the weight just isn't coming off. The worst part of it is none of my clothes fit anymore. I've tried everything! DO NOT GET THIS SHOT IF YOU LOVE YOUR BODY.
Then please enlighten me as to why I gained 40lbs after getting it and also keeping up my diet of less than 1,200 calories a day and walking at least three miles every day? The only variable in this equation is the Depo Provera shot. All us "lil girls" obviously know how our bodies reacted to this and are only posting our experience and our advice. Good for you that you only gained 10lbs and didn't have to buy a whole new wardrobe. I did. Good for you that you didn't have a period. I had almost two months straight of a period. As a nurse, you should know it effects every woman's body differently. We are simply suggesting that nobody get this shot because of the negative ways it impacted us. We don't want anyone else to have to go through this.
