Hello!
I had shot of depro provera 1 year ago and I gained weigh (60 lbs in one year!) Horrible!!! And I didn’t change my eating habbits or anything. Also doctor told me there are no side effects to depo provera! So, my question now is: how soon do you lose weight after going of depo provera?

Im 16 and I've been on the shot for 14 months. I was 135 When I started on it. I am now 196. In about a month I'm going to get the injection. (Not by choice that I'm on the birth control) A friend of mine told me her sister was on the shot, and that when she was taken off, she had her period for about 2 months and all the weight she gained fell off. Im hoping that what happened to her will happen to me. I used to be out going, playing volley ball, cheerleading, and dancing. But since I've been on the shot, I've been depressed and not really wanting to do anything. I'm hoping that I'll be able to lose the weight.

Well, I definitely wish I had read all of these before I started Depo a year and a half ago since I couldn't use any birth control with estrogen. When I started the shot, I was 18, 5'4", and weighed about 135 lbs. I'm now 20 and I made it all the way up to a self esteem crushing 178 lbs. I thought that my weight gain was completely due to starting college, all the partying and the stress, and the horrific Freshman 15. This year I put an end to the feeling sorry for myself and got serious about getting my body back, but after spending weeks and weeks trying to lose the weight - going to the gym 6 times a week, taking dance and fitness classes, lifting weights, and sticking to a strictly vegan diet for the past 6 weeks - absolutely nothing! I've dropped 5 pounds and I've been hovering around 172 for months. My old clothes still don't fit, I don't feel like I'm even in my own skin anymore, and the constant struggle to lose weight with absolutely no results is unbearable! It wasn't until recently that I put two and two together and realized my weight gain actually started after my first shot. I'm now off of Depo, and hopefully I'll get back on track relatively soon. I can't use any other forms of birth control, but if this weight falls off like I've heard it does for some of you ladies out there, then it will be SO worth the sacrifice. To everyone else, be careful with Depo!

I have been on Depo since I was 22. I am now 32. I was supposed to get my shot by yesterday but I did not go and get it. Pretty much for the past 7 years I have had no desire in sex at all (I have been with the same guy since I was 22 and somehow he puts up with that, he does complain though!) I could go weeks, hell months, without having sex. I know that comes with being in a relationship for along time but it is pretty bad. I am going to miss not having my periods but that is it I think. I have gained all most 100 pounds since then! It's been 10 years so I'm sure there are more factors to it, but I think a large part is the Depo. I starting gaining shortly after I went on it. I am hoping that I will get more of a sex drive and maybe lose some weight without being on it. We'll see. I had concerns about being on it so long but the OBGYN never seemed to have concerns over it. I have had calcium tests done and they are fine. So that's good. I also am self employed and didn't have money to get it since I currently don't have insurance. My concern now is what else to go on for BC? Anyways, just wanted to throw my two cents in.
I was on the depo for 2 years, I gained about 15-20 pounds, i have been off the depo for about 5 months and i have not lost any weight yet, my periods are back to normal, which happened about a month and a half later after coming off the depo. i am wonder when i will lose weight too? i used to be able to eat anything and not gain a pound.... until the depo haha.

I started the Depo after miscarrying in August of 2012 it is now February of 2013 & I regret every day I have been on it. I am in college in the nursing program so I really dont want to get pregnant but being pregnant would be better than this, I got pregnant while on BC pills and I was not taking antibiotics or anything to interfere with the pills so I just think they are useless... my fiancee calls me fertile mertle but anywayyy at first the shot was amazing no period (mine were extremely painful and lasted forever) I didnt gain weight till the second shot and then only like 2 pounds but by the end of the second shot and the third shot I went from about 160 to 200 in the matter of 3 months yes school is stressful and we moved mid term to a new town without knowing anyone but still I ate pretty healthy and atleast walked everyday... I get what I think are UTI's but dont go to the doctor I work at a hospital so I know the symptoms well I just start drinking lots of water when I feel them coming on. Every part of my body hurts to the point exercise kills me which is probably why I started gaining more my bones felt so weak and I had been an active person before all this began. I go from sweet and loving to a total B**CH and I hate that he has to put up with that and when we have sex its like I just lay there I have no sex drive what so ever and most of the time it hurts (TMI sorry) but still it sucks I'm 20 and cant even live a normal life.... I am due for a shot on the 3rd tomorrow is the 1st and we decided after doing research that I am not going to get it especially since I had miscarried the first pregancy and it runs genetically in my family I am not wrecking my fertility over not having kids right now.... I would not recommend this to anyone at all it is a terrible experience!
i've been on depo for 6 months and i gained 50 lbs, i've been going to the gym for a month and lost 2 lbs so i believe i can lost the weight eventually, but i am done with depo ill try my luck trying to remember to take the pills.
hi its awful aint it I started on this about 6 months ago and im due my next one today but im not having it as I have gained nearly a stone in 6months im not happy as I was only 91/2 stone before and now im just over 10 1/2 the doctor told me there no side affects not only that but because you don't have a period your body produced more protein and mine had produced a lot lot more and has affected my immune system I now have developed a syndrome which is not good, im very worried, and this is a nother reason I am coming off the injection who no's wat else it can do to us. not recommended. !!!!!! come off it, I want to lose the weight but how I exercise all the time I walk at least 5 miles every other day sometime about 3 miles every day and it not done any thing I don't eat lots I just eat what have always eaten, I used to eat what ever I like and never put weight on I was size 10 and now im size 12. its not worth it...

Good luck hun. try family planning as a birth control :)
I had my first shot in October, three months later I refused the second. I started dieting at around the same time I should have had the second but could barely lose a thing. Two months later I have got my period and have lost 4lb in 2 weeks, so still believe that it slowed my weight loss down.
i have not experienced that, but the weight gain is hurting my heart. i lossed 36 pounds and now the shot is having it creep back up on me. I pray God get everybody through this. it is un real to go through these things. I wish the doctor would have said something about and she didn't because she wanted to get paid.
I got one depo shot in 1999 after I had my daughter and I went from 120 to 160 in one year without a change in diet. It's been 14 years, I'm now 190lbs and cannot seem to get the weight off. I eat less and even started exercising but the weight does not go down. Wishing I'd never taken the depo.
