how soon do you lose weight after going of depo provera?

I was the same. I was about 140 and now I am almost 100 pounds heavier. The drop was the only thing that was different and I've exercised and dieted and the weight will not come off. I feel trapped and nothing I am doing helps! Any suggestions?!

Did you gain any weight? I took only one shot. I'm due now but I'm not getting it. I lost weight on the shot but I don't want to gain any getting off.

I didn't gain too much weight on depo provera, but I literally couldn't lose it for the life of me (I had gained a lot of weight prior for an unrelated reason). I would work out 2+ hours a day, eat ok, and still be the same weight. My hair also thinned out in some places. I never linked two and two together, and simply forgot to get my shot ~6 months ago. I noticed I started losing 1-2 pounds for doing, well, not much of anything at all about 4 months past. Now that I'm half a year off I'm starting to get real periods again (and remembering why I didn't want them to begin with), I've dropped like 5 pounds in a month with no real effort. I suspect when I find the time to start really exercising/dieting again, I will start to see better results. It takes a while for your body for start functioning again after the injection, so don't get too discouraged for not seeing results. For reference, I took around 8 injections before stopping.

Thank you this is helpful, I've been off it three months now and I've been really struggling to lose weight, I've changed my diet and I do exercise everyday but the scale is not my friend I'm just going to try and not give up and try some of the things you mentioned

Well here's one for ya girls. I'm 51 years old. Was on Depo shot for about 20 years. I went off because of menopause as per my dr. My bone density stayed good. I did although gain weight, but over a long period of time. Almost 55 pounds worth. Was 148 . Fast forward 20 years, I was 204. Uugghhh. Right? I just chalked it up to getting older, not the depo. Well, since I've stopped the shot, about 8 months ago, I've lost , yes , LOST 35 POUNDS. I'm so happy. Lol. I look great and didn't do a darn thing. Loving life.

It's not true. I gained 100 pounds I only took it twice (6 months) that was 6 yeasts ago. I have regular periods now and I have had a son now who is now one. I was also told there were no side effects. There should be consequences for those telling these less.

I was on the depo from ages 19 - 28, and gained two stone in weight, but never had a period which is what I liked about it. I decided to give my body a break for 2 years (28 - 30), and lost the weight over this time, and I only had 1 period, but that was enough to send me straight back on it. From 30 - 33.5, I went back on the depo, but things felt different going back on in my 30's. I felt constantly tired, lost my mojo, and gained two stone in weight again. At no point did anyone in the healthcare profession tell me of the side effects or suggested I took a break from it. I never wanted children and I was in the navy, so it suited at the time. It was only when I came out of my work environment that I thought I could handle having a period better. I am now 34, been off the dpeo for 6 months, and haven't had a period, but starting to get my sex drive back. I heard that they used to give this drug to men in prison as it killed their sex drive etc etc...the rest is self explanatory. While I was on the depo it cleared my acne up, but now it has slowly come back. I'm just waiting for all the badness to come out of my body now. I asked to be sterilised at 24, 26, 28, then I gave up, and with strokes in the family I was advised to go on this type of pill, rather than the tablet form. No mater what happens you cant win, but the hospital should sterilise you if you want, as it is your choice not theirs. I agree, more information should be provided with contraception side effects. But maybe as women we should be more savvy and look up what we are about to put in our bodies.

It does make you gain weight. I gained almost 40 pounds. Now I have been off of it for over year and I have went down 6 pants sizes. Plus it's not really safe. It gave me blood clots on lungs. So be careful.

Hey! I know it's been a while, but how did you deal with the side effects? I've been in it for 9 months and I'm not planning on getting the shot anymore.

I have gained too! I have always been a skinny girl and now I feel fat lol How did you deal with the side effects? Was it the same as when being on the shot? Reading what people have said has me worried!

I didn't gain wait either until my 2nd year on depo. I gained 10 pounds in what felt like overnight! I didn't eat any differently and I still kept active as usual so I'm sure it's the depo. It may just take a while for it to cause weight gain

I was on depot for 10 years and gained weight that I couldn't lose. I have now been off for 3 months and weigh less than I have in many years. I didn't realize I had lost the weight so fast til someone told me that I had and wondered if I was sick. I haven't had any periods but also haven't had one in 8 years. I am happy I am down to 130 but don't know what my future holds for my menstral cycle. Also do not know if it has affected my bone density. Also don't know how much more weight I will lose.

HI, I know this post was over a year ago but did you manage to lose the weight and if so how long?? I have had two shots and was due my last one a week ago but am stopping due to mood swings and massive weight gain over a short time with no change in eating habits. Many Thanks Jo x
