Hello!
I had shot of depro provera 1 year ago and I gained weigh (60 lbs in one year!) Horrible!!! And I didn’t change my eating habbits or anything. Also doctor told me there are no side effects to depo provera! So, my question now is: how soon do you lose weight after going of depo provera?

I only had 2 shots of the depo (around 6 months) I'm 19 years old. I was around 125 pounds & 5'2. i loved to run and stay in shape. they told me at the health dept. there would be NO side effects " this is the BEST type of birth control there is, you wont gain any weight or anything" man, was i wrong... it made me tired all the time, mean, emotional, & i gained almost 20 in that short amount of time; also, i didnt change my eating habbits. i didnt feel myself either.. it was nice not having a period. but, it wasnt worth it. it also didnt seem very healthy not having one. this is the first type of birth control ive even been on. but my question is, can i lose the weight ive gained ? and another, how long does it take for the shot to get out of my system ? i wish i would have looked more into this before taking the health dept word on it.

Then its like 1 day my jeans fit and the next I couldnt get it up over my thighs. ((Shaking My Head)). Then the next thing I knew the doctor was telling me I was close to 200 pounds!! I have never been over 164 pounds in my life!!!! I wish I couldve seen the signs. My hair was the first to go. You stopped just in time

There are a few things to remember when taking the shot...1) Every body is different. 2) How long you have been on the shot DOES matter. If we all had the same reactions then we would all be 5'5 and 125lbs and have the exact same genetic makeup...thank god we dont! I have been on the shot for a little over 13 years. During the first 5 years i gradually gained about 40 pounds. i would say that it was a mix between the depo shot and the fact that i was growing up and becoming a mature woman...your body changes over 13 years..hard to believe i know but it really does, I dont know any women that weigh the exact same as they did 13 years ago. So keeping your expectations realistic is also a must. Now for the other side affects like hair loss, anxiety, depression etc. Sure some of that can be blamed on the Depo since it is a hormone, but also people go through different things in life called stressors its all part of growing up, we all need a little help from time to time. I agree that there is a lack of informed consent from the healthcare industry in general but we as adults need to take some accountability in what we put in to our bodies. DO YOUR RESEARCH...Please dont get angry w/ the people on here who are voicing their concerns or opinions on the depo, instead be grateful that you havent had any issues and pray that you dont in the future. Best of luck to everyone having problems. And if you have any questions about long term use of Depo feel free to email me, Thanks.
I got one shot, 3 months worth and gained 30 pounds. When i was 9 months pregnant I was 163 pounds. Before pregnancy I was 135. After having my daughter within 2 weeks I was down to 140. Then at my 6 week post partum appointment I got the depo shot and since then I have gotten up to 160. I am now 4 months post baby and go to the gym EVERYDAY. Eat healthy and the weight just keeps coming. I cry almost everyday looking at myself. Does ANYONE have any suggestions on how to lose this weight?! I can feel myself going into a deep depression...
after i had my 3rd baby i weighed 12 stone 5lbs and dieted to lose 2 stone 1 lb in 4 months.been on depo for over a year. was 10 stone 4 lbs went up to 11 stone 10 lbs. i didn't change my eating habits of 1800 calories but still gained 1 stone 6 pounds. been off the depo about 3 weeks now but the weight has only just started to drop in the 3rd week. so far this week i have lost 4-5 pounds.
Like most of you. I too gained weight on depo. i gained around 60 pounds in the course of one year. I switched to the nuva ring about 2 months ago and since then i have lost 10 pounds. I haven't done anything to facilitate this: exercise, dieting. It has been just my body adjusting to the lack of the depo.
well i got on depo in november of 2007, right before leaving the hospital after having my daughter. before i got prengant i only weighed 95 pounds (i was 14) and before labor i weighed in at 135. after giving birth i went down to 115, which was perfect for me. NOW I WEIGH... 165!!! which is sooo depressing knowing i weigh now more then i did when i was 9 months pregnant!!!! =( my appetite also changed, im always hungry and never seem to get full. i get the worst headaches every single day, horrible acne on my back and chest! (luckily not on my face) im only 18 years old and i feel like an old woman, my body always hurts and im always tired. i have no sex drive AT ALL. i have mood swings and depression.the ONLY good thing out of depo was not getting my period.... i was actually due for my shot today and didnt go to get it b/c i want to switch to something else. does anyone have any suggestions to what would be a good choice?
I went on the depro provera about over a year ago, obviously because it was a good choice for birth control. About 2 months after taking my first shot i notice i was starting to put on weight and started to diet and exercise and i was losing weight. After about a month of dieting and continuous exercising i slowly lost interested and started putting on weight. It wasn't until March/April of this year i started to really put on weight (this wasn't only due to being on depro provera it was also because i just quit smoking as well). I have now put on roughly about 20 to 30kgs (i weight nearly 100kgs now)on from when i started taking depro provera. If i could i would go back in time and never taken depro provera. Its been 8 months since my last shot and have only had my periods once since being off the shot. Weight gain was not only the side effect i had, i always had bad mood swings and the worse head aches. I think everyone's reaction on this shot would be different though my advice for those who are looking into going on Depro Provera - look into the side effects talk to your doctor and ask questions about the shot.. Though i wouldn't recommended this birth control to anyone!!Fingers crossed i can lose all the weight i have gained over the past year!!
I was on the depo shot for about nine months before i finally decide to switch to the pill. Depo was a living HELL for me. Before i started the depo i had heard about it causing depression, told my doctor that i have had depression for about 8 years now. I was worried about it effecting that..he told me not to worry. So i didnt and got started on the shot. At first it was fine and i love not having my period anymore. When it got close to my second shot i notice that i gained alittle weight about 5 pounds or so. But the doctors didn't seem worried about and told me it was normal. i Got my second shot which was where things started getting off. I was extremely sad and got very angry very quickly for no reason...since i have been dealing with depression before this im usually good at controlling my emotions but this was beyond anything ive ever dealt with...I gained even more weight, and my hair started looking lifeless. By the third shot i had lost alot of my hair, gained about 40 pounds and my hips now hurt badly after sitting more than 15 minutes. I actually started to feel like i was i losing my mind. I stopped depo and switched to the pill. Now i have my period again, im losing weight but not freakishly fast haha. My mood is 10 times better. I feel like myself again and healthier. I highly recommend people to be careful when taking this and watch for anything symptoms like mine, no matter what scale they maybe on you should stop taking depo. IFY i only got 3 shots and i believe ive done quite abit of damage to my body.

But the worst thing was the depression i was even put on anti depressants my emotions were all over the place for prob the firsy 6 to 8 weeks after every injection i feel great at the moment and hve no intention of havin this horrible thing again! I really would like to know though does it take very long to shift the extra weight? I dont expect miracles but 12 lbs at least
I was searching for the exact same answer on Google and this just made me depressed i was 110 and gained 30 pounds due to pregnancy and now the weight is stuck on me and people said it was because of the shot but people say you may gain 5 to 10lbs and that was it i exercise but i don't have a healthy diet but i've always been this way and stuck under 120 but now none of the weight is coming off and it's completely depressing :(
I've been on depo for over two years, never gained any weight and as it starts to wear off (shot lasts 3 months) I usually end up spotting. I've had no side affects at all. It seems I've been lucky compared to some others on here. I was informed about the risks by my doctor but so far nothings happened at all. I just dont want people to think that depo will affect everyone negatively. When I turn 21 I will get a bone density test and reguardless of the results starts taking some vitamens known to reduce loss of bone density, better safe then sorry. Best of luck to those of you suffering the side effects of depo. BTW- ROWING MACHIENE. My mother has had issues with her tummy for years after she had kids but after two weeks on the rowing machiene her stomach was super flat, even her scars tightend up.
I started taking depo by the middle of my senior year of highschool. I am very active, always have been and was at the time 124lbs Im 5ft4 with a very small frame. By the middle of the summer i had gained at least 17lbs weighing in at 141. Beginning my freshmen year i was well aware of the freshmen 15 so I steered clear of fatty quick and easy to grab foods and stuck to salads, water and wraps and regularly went to the gym. (all of this was only after two shots) after two to three weeks of living on campus I was several weeks away from my next shot and outraged at the thought of even considering taking it because at that point i had gained another 18lbs causing me to have a very unflattering 159lbs. I gained 39lbs. The reason I state it was unflattering was because ALL the weight went to my MID SECTION >.
