At 17, I caught an STI. I was infected for at least 3 (or 4) months before getting it treated. 7 years later, my significant other & I tried to conceive for at least a year, but I never got pregnant.
Now that I'm 26, one of my bff is pregnant right now with her second child. & my other bff is having her first baby! & it's making me very sad. Plus, I'm curious to know if I'm infertile or not. However, I'm not sure if my doctor will even check me out since I'm not TTC right now. & I'm no longer with my SO.
Therefore, if I mentioned I tried for a year, will she check to see if I'm infertile? Or do I have to be TTC right now in order for her to check me out?
Hi Curious,
You can see a fertility specialist but remember, it takes 2 people to make a baby. It could be the SO.
You can expect a full physical and internal exam including blood work. They can also pass a scope through your vagina to examine your fallopian tubes for scarring. Scarring can occur from an infection that was untreated.
Good luck.
Thank you so much for response. It was very helpful advice!
