Just this week I seem to have lost all my motivation, so I decided not to let myself run or exercise. Reverse psychology!! I think I just pushed myself to hard and now am paying for it. I actually am looking forward to running again but I'm going to wait until Sat. evening or Sunday and see how it goes. Is this crazy?? Any suggestions on how to get motivated again?
You guys have been great with all the information you have given me in my previous posted..Thanks

Sign up for a race, that's usually a quick cure to the no motivation blues.
Sometimes it's good to step back a little though to help stave off the burn out.

Is there a race to go watch or volunteer at this weekend? That's always a good one. Or do you have anything to cross-train with? I find if I get on my bicycle a few days, I get itchin' to run and as long as I've been training, I don't lose any ground. And another good motivator is if there's a running club you can tag along with once or twice a week.
sounds like maybe you did too much too soon and it overwhelmed you?? kinda like exhausted you physically and emotionally?
back off like you are and i would start with fewer or slower miles; an easier training schedule. sorry, i really haven't followed your program and am guessing at what your miles may have been.
i bet the break does you good and recharges you. have you done a C to 5K program?

I have been there, and I think it is usually (at least for me) a combo of too much running and stress from either work or family stuff.
It kinda gets me in a catch-22. If I ease up from running to try to remotivate, I start to stress about that!
I think what has also helped was getting to bed earlier, if you can believe that!

Thanks for all the advice. It may very well be stress/over doing it combo. I have ALOT going on here at work. I relaly think just stepping back for a while is helping. Put on my swim siut is enough motivation to get back to running.. I have no desire to compete or anything like that so signing up fro a race won't help. I'm actually ready to run again I'm just holding back.
When I'm totally overwhelmed I usually paralyze myself and can't do anything, so I'll just "go out for a walk"....and what usually happens is, I get bored after about a minute of that and then it gets me to start running.
But the swimsuit thing works too! 8O

What they all said. Maybe you just need a break. I know that every year when I get back from my almost 2 week long vacation north of the Mason Dixon line and north of the Border I feel great. I just need to remember to not try to jump right back into my routine of where I was at before I left. I did that last year and I almost burned myself out the first week back.
I'll never be competitive in a race. I feel fast when I beat the 7 year old that keeps running past me, then walking. I do like the race atmosphere though - more specific, the t-shirts. That's enough to motivate me. I'm not trying to push you to enter a race, but just wanted to make sure you knew that not everyone there was competitive.
The fact you want to get out there an run is a good sign. You probably just needed a few days off to recharge.
