Hello everyone, I'm 21 and I have a sexually active life with my girlfriend. I've had Fordyce since I was a little kid. I have read some posts, and yes keeping your skin dry helps. A lot of people do not know why this type of bumps are caused. The most common knowledge about this typical dermatological phenomenon is that Fordyce bumps are made out of natural lubricant made from within us. Have you noticed if you excercise or you do not shower for at least a day your Fordyce glands appear to be more noticeable? This is because of the moist that your sweat creates, as well as the bacteria that is created in your genital area. It is also because you genital area is the part that gets the east oxygen and sunlight. This also can be a factor of our glands. These type of bumps go away some day in your life, for some they just last about 2 to 4 years, for others a few months, and unfortunatelly for some people they seemed to never go away. If they are not noticeable, do not tell your sexual parter. The majority do not ask and do not force you to be in the light. If they notice it, tell them your situation. Have a computer with internet access available. I forgot to mention, I'm majoring in Dermatology, and Fordyce is my main focus.

Amazed to see so many of us suffer from the same thing.. It's one of those things you generally get embarrassed over, or assume maybe you caught something of that girl you spent a brief night with lol..
I have them covering most of my sack and halfway up my shaft, almost in a perfect line around it. Ive tried popping them, johoba oil, anit fungal creams.. I think I have tried every single remedy mentioned in this thread (and Ive ready every single post in detail) and to be honest, nothing really worked.
I have had this since I was about 15, im now 35. and have had many many girlfriends.. (and im not religious so I have never held back!)
Ive been with my wife for 11 years, she either hasnt notice them, or she likes the small bumps, who knows.. but two kids later, they dont seem to have really done alot to my life other than make me self concious.
Why am I self concious about them If im the only one who seems to give a c**p about them? lol I know its human nature. Theonly thing I have not tried yet is this new anti sebum stuff, even if it doesnt work - I can say ive tried everything - but I wanted to post here today mainly for these young guys I see who are 15 years old and are worried about this.
Don't be!
drugs wont help, alcohol wont help... Getting alot of sex and proving to yourself they mean nothing DOES help!

I just want everyone to be aware that these have absolutely nothing to do with sex or an STD. They are the buildup of oil in the sebaceous glands which are found on the lips, genital area and aureola area. These glands do not have a hair follicle for the oil to escape so it builds up. And like a pimple, you can pop them but they will return. They are not contagious and not caused by masturbation. From my experience and talking to doctors, you DONT want to keep your lips dry as the glands will want to produce more oil to combat the dryness. Anything else such as poking, the sun, extreme weather conditions will irritate them as well and make them appear worse.
The only real treatment is laser treatment. I have also heard cutting them out works as well but causes scabbing and sometimes scarring. Jojoba oil, anti-sebum, creams, etc do not work to remove them. Everyone, I mean EVERYONE, has them to some extent.
I have these on my lips, nipples and genitals. The lips are the only ones that had bothered me so here is what I do to stay in control of them:
1. Pop them with my fingernails
2. Apply salicylic acid and a retinol cream so the oil does not come back on a daily basis
3. Drink a ton of water
4. take a mulitvitamin
5. take a A Vitamin supplement
6. Stay away from c**p food that has too much processed saturated fats
This seems to have worked for the most part, I had to repop a few but it only take a second. Again, after a ton of research and consultations with doctors, the only true treatment is Laser but they even come back with that treatment. BTW, I am 31, and have had these for about two years.

So im 25 Ive had them for about 5 years honestly i could care less about my penis having them on there. For the ones on my penis that get really big i just take finger nail clippers and pitch it then put out slowly so that it pops it. It doesnt hurt at all and it gets the c**p out of there.
But the ones that do bother me are the ones on my lips they are on the front part. and honestly you cant see that THAT well unless you are about to lean in for a kiss. My girlfriend says she doesnt care but it still bothers me i dont want her to have to think about that everytime she goes to kiss me. I dont want a huge red mark on my lip either from pick at them or using my fingernail trick on them.
But ive heard people say that when they get a cold sore they dont come back in that spot.
IF that is true i was thinking why not just cut then away. so ive been trying this with the finger nail clippers on the corners of my mouth where you cant see. I pitched a big chunk of shink with them on there and cliped them off. It as fully back to normal now and there are no bumps. after about 2 weeks. so im going to give it some time and i know im under guest but you just have to keep an eye out.
I hope this works if it does im going to do the front part of my lip and hope that it doesnt scar to badly.

If the herpes breakout is deep enough to destroy the lip tissue and cause scarring, then yes, the fordyce spots do not form on scar tissue. I have had fordyce on my upper lip and it does not come in where I had a really bad breakout a few years ago but it does come in where I've small breakouts.
obviously you do not have herpes simplex 1, It takes chunks out of your lips when the breakout is healing. I definitely would NOT recommend trying to mimic a breakout by cutting out chunks. Get the laser, a lot safer and you can probably talk the doc to give you a high-powered one if the first time doesnt

No one resume the treatments so its much more difficult to us to knowing wich is the best method.
I read almost all the post on the web hahah and I tried everything but we are missing aour habits
First of all i think that all of the people with this spots has a type of acne so we produce more ammounts of sebum.
So when i was on accutane i get rid of every one of the spots but after 2 weeks of finish my treatment they appear again. so the only solution I think is asking to ur derm for a long term of accutane treatment but in low dosages. so u keep ur production of sebume at minimum. im gonna visit my derm next week and im gonna ask for it.
probably hes gonna say this is a minor problem yes but i causes big problems. is like a rhinoplasty no one really need it but 9 o 10 has a new nose hahaha, why we cant do something if we just dont want them.
And also i have an hypothesis as isotretinoin or accutane helps 100% sure, there is a crem in the UK called isotrexin is isotretinoin in cream. maybe that help 2 but u cant find it in the us, so if a friend of Uk read this post try thta method or ask to ur derm.
So basically we have 2 alternatives and 1 hypothesis:
Alternatives:
1) Co2 Laser: It works but maybe the spots will come back.
2) Accutane: it works but after u stop the tretment they come back, thats why im wondering in keeping a long term in low dosages treatment may help and stop this. (of course ur derm has to approve it).
Hypothesis:
Isotrexin (isotretinoin topical) just in UK
