I recently saw a tv program about Derkins Disease. It was "Medical Mysteries". No one seems to know much about this disease. The Doctor in this program thought that exercise aggravated the problem and seemed to produce more lypomas. I have had many small lypomas on my arms removed, and two large lypomas on my upper leg removed by a plastic surgeon. However, the TV program advised not to have the lypomas removed as they seem to come back. The male patient had over 330 "lumps" as he called them.
The small lypomas on my arms have been removed in the office with a local anesthetic, but larger ones on my leg were removed by surgery. I do think that exercise may aggravate these lypomas, at least for me. I was planting a new flower garden and had to use a shovel. It seems to have"stimulated" the lypomas and they do seem to be getting larger and hurt.
My surgeon told me that if they grow "too large" they can develop into cancer! I too am looking for a Doctor who has experience with this disease.I know this disease is rare, but I had no idea this many people suffer from it. Before that TV program, I thought I was the only person to have this disease.
I would appreciate any information any of you may have.
Thanks,
Lynda
I sympathize with all of you. I have constant pain from injuries. They are chronic and will not get better.
I wonder why our culture celebrates sports heroes with fame and money but what about the scientists that are working hard to find cures for diseases and ailments. Why don't we support and celebrate these research scientists? We don't even know their names.
We complain about the cost of medicines that help fight diseases and prolong our lives but we spend money on sports memorabilia and expensive tickets to sports games.
I don't understand this part of our society.
