I am begging to think that a hysterectomy was bad decision. I just had a hysterectomy to remove a large fibroid. Surgery went well, but there’s still some "smelly belly". Now I'm trying to get my abdominals back, I walk daily, jog weekly and go to the gym for weights but they don’t come back.

It wasn’t bad decision if solved your problem. Hysterectomy is major surgery you need time. Although I haven’t had a hysterectomy, my child was a C-section. The incision swelling, redness, and tenderness didn't go away until almost a year later.

I have had a C-section and an hysterectomy where they cut me open up and down the abdomen. The recovery from C section cannot be compared to recovery from hysterectomy. For me the experiences were very different. The hysterectomy resulted in a bent over walk, pain in the lower back and hip and huge scar, inability to stand and sit for longer periods of time, incontinence, no abdominals, fat stomach, and hormonal problems. I had a feeling of loss and sadness. My bikini style C-section was hard to recover from because of the 24 hr care of the new baby. I could not rest and focus on my own recovery. My baby came in August and I was able to go out at Christmas.

I found this site by googling back pain and vaginal hysterectomy. It is interesting the variety of experiences. Mine happened when I was 27 some 30 years ago. What they don't tell you is why you have back pain from the ridiculous position they put you in. They don't tell you that it only solves 1/2 the problem generally just the bleeding between periods. They don't tell you that it ages you fast. They don't tell you that they are going to totally abuse your body without your permission. Or at least you could never imagine what they will do to you. I still have back pain. I still have all the hormonal problems and it created more plus my body feels about 100 years old. My advice is to see a naturopath and stay away from conventional doctors at all cost. I am having problems with an elbow that was replaced because of an accident almost 30 years ago. They end result of the hysterectomy is that is caused an irrational fear of hospitals and doctors that I can't overcome. I don't know what to do with my elbow because of it. I can't even think about doctors and hospitals without becoming physically sick. Needless to say that hysterectomy has lasting results and it didn't cure that much of the problem. Imagine that.
