This has also happened to me. I am a 26 year old male and I feel it in my left testicle. I can't believe there are this many people who have responded. I am considering showing this page to my family doctor.

Well I am glad I came here to find out this has not been all in my head. In my groin and thighs actually. I usually use my laptop on a table, but on two different occasions I used it directly on my lap while sitting in an arm chair. The first time, I had been using it this way for only two hours at a coffee shop, the underside of it got hot, but not enough to burn me on the surface of my skin. I noticed that when I got home though, there was a deep burning sensation in my groin area and thighs, and they felt warm to the touch. But, there was no redness at all or indication that I had burned myself. My skin looked completely normal. Weird thing was, the tingling burning sensation lasted for several days. And the next morning I actually felt really ill and had diahrea. I immediately thought "OMG, I've got radiation poisoning!"

Eventually it went away. But just recently, the fool that I am, I did this again. Used the laptop directly on my lap. Guess I had been assuming it was just some freak thing before, and after all - it is a LAPTOP, so isn't it supposed to be safe for laps? Just to be cautious I put my laptop case on my lap and the laptop on top of that, and for another couple of hours thought I was fine because I felt absolutely no heat on my thighs. But then I get home, and I am having this weird burning sensation down the inside of my thighs. It was so uncomfortable, I could barely sleep and couldn't avoid being aware of it. This was several days ago, and the sensation is still there and real uncomfortable. Yesterday I woke up with a couple of weird round red rashlike spots on my left thigh, along with numbness. Honestly, it feels like I have been microwaved under the skin or something. Now I am paranoid about cancer.

I agree with those who say that this has nothing to do with the heat coming off the computer. It doesn't have anything to do with that! If the heat being generated is hot enough to cause this much internal burning pain, there would be very clear evidence of having been burned on the surface of the skin ( 1st, 2nd, or 3rd degree burns ). The outer skin would also be burned. Period. But other than these two rash like spots ( one which is actually further down my leg from where the computer actually came in contact ), there is nothing unusual looking about my skin on the outside. There is definately something going on here, and IT IS NOT SAFE.

I get the burning tingly feeling when typing on my laptop.  My wrists feel like they are burning and my laptop is quite cool.  the sensation is now starting to  move up my arms.  I can feel the electricity.  My cell phone does the same thing to my ear.

Why are people becoming so electro sensitive?

Same problem iching all over every time use my dell laptop. My leggs feels weired , numb & ichy so tend not to put on my lap anymore. I get a weired feeling in my head when using it even when not in front of it get strong energy feeling from it whilst its on. I get slightly dizzy but soon as turn it off eventually feeling goes away but iching conts have trouble sleeping. I'm now scared to use it so when I do only limit it to a short period. can anyone explain this.???

I think maybe a scientist not a doctor. Do not think the medical profession has done research on this one. Maybe a college? I told my GP about it and he looked at me as if I were nuts. Like it is not possible to feel the electricity coming from a battery or electronic device.

My Left hand is feeling sensitivity to electrical sensations, especially my knuckles and my thumb hurts like hell. I suspect it's the heat and the radiation from the computer. My right hand not so much because I use a monitor, I am worried.

I have had my laptop for over a year now and I am a big facebook person and spend hours on my computer, I have in the past four weeks, been having pain in the area between my groin and leg, the pain goes down my leg with tingling feeling to my ankle, under my knee is the worse. my laptop does not get hot as the air flow is on the the side of the laptop, i can feel heat from it but not bad. I never have red spots on my thighs. I have read lots of posts, but have not seen any answers.

I have been having pains around my left breast and armpit.  They have been getting worse over the last few days, since they started.  I often put my aluminum MacBook Pro on my lap/chest when laying down. I had a funny feeling about it possibly being a problem and just thought I would do a quick search, expecting to find nothing.  Well, I am going to stop using the laptop anywhere near my chest or lap as of now.  It really is a concern.

I started wondering if the heat from my laptop could cause medical problems about a year ago. Then, 6 months ago I was diagnosed with amyloidosis...a rare blood disease. Could there be a connection? It stands to reason that the computer could affect ones blood...

Great to find this thread.  I am convinced we are slowly cooking ourselves with all our little gadgets.  It's not just the laptop, it's the total combination of electromagnetic fields surrounding us that are the problem.... TVs, radios, smartphones, laptops, tablets, DECT cordless phones, smart meters, microwaves, power lines and electric cables, power grids, phone towers, fluorescent lights, electric blankets, electric stove tops and ovens, ionizers, waterbeds, digital clocks, hair dryers, radiant heating, floor heating, etc.  It all adds up and we've become sensitive to it as we've been bringing more and more of these gadgets into our daily lives.

Here's my little story.  Last winter I had developed a burning sensation that started in my thighs and traveled down my left leg.  Reading the above posts it's interesting to note that almost everyone to this point has reported a problem on their left leg or the left side side of their body.  Is there something built on the left of all laptop computers that cause this?  Anyway, back to my story, this weird burning sensation lasted all through the winter.  I first suspected it may be due to radiation but dismissed it because it was argued that more radiation comes from the sun than any man-made device.  Having read further down the track, I discovered that human cells react differently from electromagnetic fields from the sun than they do from man-made devices because the fields from our little gadgets bounce back and forth in different directions and cause havoc on our bodies.  I read up on EMF and realised just how much of it was around me.  It wasn't just my laptop on my lap but my mobile phone next to me, my DECT phone there as well, my TV a few meters away, the senses from my alarm system and 'smart' inverter heater, my smart meter just 3 meters away, the power cord plugged in and charging my laptop dangling around my legs and feet, fluorescent lights above my head and so on.  I got all paranoid and moved the laptop onto the coffee table, put the mobile phone further away from me and put the DECT phone in another room.  The symptoms eased up a bit and by summer... when I began renovating the house and was hardly using the laptop, my symptoms went away completely.  Then this current winter approached and stupid me got slack again... putting the laptop back on my legs while it was plugged in and charging, having two phones nearby for convenience while the TV is on in the background.  I was working this way for many hours in the day (and into the night).  Now I'm back with the leg weirdness only this time it's worse.  I not only get a burning sensation deep within the tissue but also weakness, sharp sudden stabbing pains and cramps and spasm-like symptoms despite it not actually being muscle spasms. Feels like a tiny animal is running up and down my legs and it gives me this sickly feeling.  Is the magnetic fields stuck in my body? Seems kind of like nerve damage too and I'll be testing for it soon.  Never am I putting this laptop on my lap again.  Never will I use the TV and have my phones near me while working.  Now I work with the laptop on the coffee table while it's unplugged and when the battery dies, I plug it in and charge it far away from me while having a break.  I also turn everything off at night, including the phones and modem to give it all a rest and allow a lot of the radiation to dissipate from my home.  The weirdness in the legs has slowly been easing up again, just after a few days.

PS:  Read the fine print on your laptop manufacturer's manual.  I'm betting like mine it says not to put the laptop on your lap. Sneaky #%$@'s aren't they?  How ironic... a laptop that's not allowed on your lap!

PS: thanks to the person who posted about getting 'grounded' or 'earthed' by walking on grass or sand :)  Makes perfect sense and probably was another reason why I was fine all last summer.  I'm onto it and will now be out everyday in the cold walking on the grass barefooted for a few minutes throughout the day.

I've found this topic searching for answers to my own health problem. I also have developed a numb spot on my left thigh, about the size of a baseball, right where the heat vent/sink from my MacBook Pro rests on my lap when I use it at home. It's always caused tingling/redness and itching in the past (similar to a mild burn) and I assumed it was just a temporary reaction to the heat and didn't really worry. Sometimes I tried to put a magazine or a folded blanket between my legs and the MBP. But about a week ago I realized the whole area is numb and sometimes experiences mild discomfort and tingling/pain. This can't be a coincidence...

In my case, it is where the heat vent / heat sink is located.

mdfa.ca, I found that typically the laptop wifi is on the left of most laptops. My link was removed above but if you search videos where people test emf/rf fields on their laptops using a reliable gaussmeter like a Trifield meter, you'll notice how high the reading is when the meter is on the top left of the laptop. I've seen many of them and they all read higher on the left side. The right reads high for electrical fields, the left for electromagnetic fields. It can't be a coincidence we're all having issues on the left.

Also I've been walking barefooted to ground myself as someone on this thread suggested and it has helped a lot. The leg is almost back to normal except if I put my laptop on my lap... all the symptoms return.

I own a Compaq laptop that I purchased in June 2008 from HP that I did not use often. I had reconstruction surgery on my foot in 2010 and was disabled for some time. During this time I used the laptop as much as 8 hours a day (as a home office and entertainment tool) but was unable to fully sit up due to the need of elevation for my leg. I tilted the laptop {off table} forward onto my chest to have hands free for the keyboard.

After about a week I began to feel a warm prickly sensation under the skin like circulation was cut off and suddenly released. I thought it might be related to position so I adjusted the laptop more often. This warmth began to spread over the next 6 weeks and occasionally a sharp little stinging deep inside. At around this time I began to feel heat inside my chest like when you spent to much time in the sun, not painful but noticeable. The heat inside started to last for hours before dissipating and actually radiated heat like a sunburn. A few more weeks later I was suffering random hot-spots and my left breast looked like it was scalded like hot water had poured onto it {red mottled}. It felt similar to a sunburn except internal. It was painful but not extreme.

I thought perhaps it was just the fan overheating. I tried different buffering but still had the heat problem. Also when overheated a strong exhaust fume from front vent would choke me if inhaled. After I no longer needed to elevate my leg I stopped using the laptop as a primary computer.

Four months after I stopped using the laptop I found a small lump about the size of a large pea in the left breast, and two months later it was diagnosed as cancer. I was lucky that the slight stingy sensation remained after I stopped using the laptop or I may have missed finding the lump. I checked the area often because of the sting. My cancer in the left breast was a unique cancer, 1/1000 cancer cases, of unknown source that was removable but still I lost a good portion of my breast. My doctor said there are no cases recorded of cancer caused by laptops that she was aware of. So I still use the laptop because this could all be a ...coincidence? However since my diagnosis for cancer I have never rested it on my body again. I feel burning, stinging pain inside my left breast still.

Does anyone know of a connection to cancer with laptop use or laptop malfunction? I saw another comment on another site that mentioned a heat rash look after using a laptop and have read articles that this is called 'Erythema ab igne'. But what if it is a longer exposure or in an area that is more susceptible to this type of damage. Could this type of overheating cause the cells to cook and malfunction ending in cancerous cells? Is it worth the question?  When is it 'to soon' to question it?
