My boyfriend regularly smokes weed, denies the idea that it is an addiction, and is emotionally impacted by his addiction. He has mood swings, especially the day after a few days of smoking, and he experiences loss of appetite and trouble sleeping. I want to know more about this subject. I want to show him that my thoughts are supported by scientific research. Does anyone know where I can go to get reliable scientific support?
Hello Sara,
Sounds like your boyfriend needs professional help. Chronic use of pot can have many side effects. His symptoms may not be just coming from the pot but rather that he normally has anxiety and he is using the pot to self medicate only the symptoms are getting worse. There is a fair amount of scientifc literature on animal experiments and clinical trials on humans. In terms of the scientific journals, most of the time you can't get access to a full transcript copy without paying for it but you can read the abstract. On occasion you can get a free copy. It just depends on the website. You try the PubMed (major journal platform). But just do a search for marijuana and anxiety and then you could add on insomnia and anger. That should get you somewhere. Hope this was helpful.
