I can not find the answer to this anywhere on the internet. I had an infected toe, right below the nail. The podiatrist cut part of the nail out and had me soak and use neosporin to treat this. I also had 7 days of keflex. It is 3 days post check-up where she said it was looking good and no further treatment was necessary.  That toenail also has a fungus. She did not really address the fungus. The toe is still red (less so) and mildly swollen.  How long does it take before these symptoms totally dissipate? When can I stop worrying?

The healing time for an infected toe can vary depending on the severity of the infection and individual factors, such as your overall health and the effectiveness of the treatment. Typically, with proper treatment, you should see improvement within a few days to a week, but it may take several weeks for the symptoms to completely disappear.

It's not uncommon for an infected toe to also have a fungal infection, as the warm and moist environment around the toes can be conducive to fungal growth. While your podiatrist may not have addressed the fungus specifically, treating the infection and keeping the toe clean and dry can help prevent the fungus from worsening.

If you continue to experience redness, swelling, or pain in the toe, or if you notice any other concerning symptoms, it's important to follow up with your podiatrist. He may recommend additional treatment or further evaluation to ensure that the infection and fungus are fully resolved.
