I had my first banding done about 3 weeks ago and the second done today. My doctor insists that you should not do more than one banding at time because it increases the discomfort and increases the chance of complications. The plan was to do three bandings spaced over a 6 week period. I have minor sorness and the feeling of swelling in my groin and anus afterwards. The first time it took about 8-9 days before I felt normal again. I had a minor aount of blood on days 1-5 and nothing after that. The first week I had some oozing. With all that said this absolutley cured the symptoms I have dealt with for almost a decade and I am sorry i didnt get it done sooner.
I had the banding yesterday (completely knocked out for the proceedure). Thankfully my husband was there taking care of me as soon as the docs and nurses left b/c I cried like a little girl that I am! I was told that afterwards there would be alot of burning and pain. Once I was fully dressed and getting ready to be discharged, I just started crying my eyes out b/c my pain meds hadnt taken effect yet. I live 10 minutes from the hospital I had the proceedure at; it was the longest, most painful 10 minutes so far. Once my meds took effect, I was walking around with minor discomfort. I took a nap while my husband picked our munchkin up from school and ran some errands, took more pain meds when I woke up and went about my daily life - so far. I didnt take any meds before bedtime - MISTAKE - I tossed and turned all night. I have taken 2 sitz baths today and it has helped very much. I was advised by a nurse to wait atleast 4 hours after the proceedure to take a bath. The discomfort has me doing the "mommy waddle" - the big and pregnant mommy waddle. I havent had a BM (a true BM) since the proceedure. I was told I could eat anything I wanted, but be advised if you I eat something spicy, its coming out spicy. If I could go back in time (knowing how I feel now) Im not entirely sure I would have the proceedure. Ive read other peoples' posts about their recovery and symptoms weeks, months, years later. I guess Im glad I didnt read all of this before the proceedure. Good luck to all who have had or will have the banding. I hope that all of the posts help in some way and dont scare you... its best to discuss everything with your doctor in detail before the proceedure.
I had a Colonoscopy in early June. They removed 3 polyps. In early July, I had 2 internal hemorrhoids banded. The doctor said one looked really fierce. Holy hell!!! I had no idea what to expect. The doctor told me little old ladies have had this procedure and hugged him at their next appointment because they were so much better. He's getting no hug from me! The end of July, I had surgery to band one hemorrhoid, remove some external tags and deal with 3 fistulas. In early September, I had my 4th internal hemorrhoid banded. All of this sucks and this had better be the last of it. I agree with those who say it's not really painful and/or bearable, but it's damn uncomfortable. I had quite a bit of blood in my stool prior to doing any of this so the procedures were necessary, but I can understand why some people might hold off getting it done. Everyone is different and reacts differently, but you just gotta do what's best for you.
Just got one roid banded. CRH system. No anesthetic. Painful for 1/2 hr then subsided. Only needed Tylenol. Next day bowel movement ok. Felt the banded roid shrink substantially. It was internal roids that I was dealing with for over 10 years. No bleeding as of yet. Not sure what will happen when the roid falls off. Hoping for the best.
JUST A WATCHOUT: I am 45, I had two hemis banded in 2007, left and right. Recently Oct 2013 started to have pain and slight bleeding. The pain did not subsdie for weeks and felt different. I tend to get these roids right near the nerve line inside. Dont' believe ffolks when they say internal don't hurt; its location, location, location. Went to my surgeon and he saw a small rectal polyp so I went under generral 3 days ago for the banding of one and polyp removal. Came out of surgery in some burning pain but it was packed with gauze due to the polyp removal. Seems the polyp was small and not able to be fully cauterized due to risk of burn through so it needs to/will bleed during healing. So for going into surgery on an empty stomach and in some pain after, they gave me a morphine shot and percocet, then pulled the packing out (big fun) and gave me script for Hydrocodone/APAP for the pain. All those pain killers, empty stomach and slow digestive system and really not eating just drinking a lot of water from the anesthisia, cause me to develop severe GI bleeding like diarreah. After turning the bowl red and marroon I said something is wrong this is too much, my doc said all people bleed different but this was alot and too much for a banding and even open polyp wound. I stopped the pain meds after 12 hours and the GI beelding start to improve so the next day I had diarreah with minimal blood, then progressed to gas. I guess my GI system was chemically cleaned/burned and was rinsing and rebuilding. 24 hours later now I have loose/soft stools with just some blood on the paper and a few drops on the stool but bright red. This is more like the polyp wound and banding bleeding. Now I am trying to reconsistute my blood loss and digenstive system with vitamins and probiotics. Day 3 banding pain is barely perceivable. I guess the past bandings worked well since this one was in the middle. Hopefully this is the last time forever. You need to pay close attention to pain killers and the effect they can have on your GI system, especially went they sit in an empty stomach.
I am a 56 yr male, and had one roid banded five weeks ago tomorrow, Jan 15, 2014. Procedure was uncomfortable, not really painful. I had minimal bleeding, and don't really know when the roid and rubber band passed out. The worst part for me (still) is when the feces is passing through the area of the roid. I get pain in the area, and a desire to defecate and urinate. Yesterday, Tues Jan 13, 2014, was a bad day. I had three bm's, and the bm's caused some bleeding in the area. But once an episode is over, it's like nothing was ever there, and I feel great. I originally thought the pain was from an infected prostate, and had it treated as such from Feb 2013 through Dec 2013. I finally put 2 & 2 (no pun intended) together, and figured out it was a rectal issue and not my prostate. I've been fighting this thing since Feb 2013. I'm starting my fifth week post recovery...I hope it's getting close to healing over.
I'm in the same shoes you are, my rubber banding or ligation of hemorrhoids took place three days ago to two of my little friends. I also went on a liquid diet 24 hours before and an enema the morning of. The only thing I wasn't prepared for was not receiving any form of anesthesia, not even a local. Those two fellas felt like they were fighting for their lives once the rubber bands were snapped into place. The procedure also felt as though the surgeon enjoyed stretching them as far as possible. Well, I can say by now the pain has stopped...I'm waiting for a bowel movement to take place so I can see what the devils totally look like. I will admit ever since done I've felt like I had to take a c**p and couldn't...finally that has all passed. Would I go through this again, you bet, matter a fact I have one more big one to be removed in 4 weeks. At least now I no what to expect.
Apparently I should back up in what I stated in my first posting concerning the rubber banding of two of my hemorrhoids. I commented and stated "two of my little friends", I was truly in error. Actually, per the proctologist, these two of a total of three are, were mighty big. This was why he chose to only band two at this first in office surgery appointment. He's delaying the third for an appointment 4 weeks away.
I also went through both heavy bleeding and itching of internal and external hemorrhoids back in 1980, they had to be removed as an in hospital patient. Comparing rubber band ligation to having to be hospitalized and all that went with it I'll take banding any time.
This is the 4th day since banding was done, bowel movement has been helped to gradually resume by an over the counter drugstore stimulant/laxative. I'm "hoping" once the first two banded hemorrhoids have reached the point of exhaustion from rubber band choking, then clear the anal passage, healing will commence. Oh yes...and the third will be headed for the same conclusion.
Finally, finally this morning I got called to the throne. The over the counter drugstore stimulant/laxative along with some chocolate chip cookies and a cup of tea made especially for constipation had teamed together. I can say I actually enjoyed having a normal bowel movement. The two banded devils are still a part of my ass, but the count down is near for their expulsion into the toilet bowl. I've started to grease my anal passage to relieve the itching sensation that's developed. And with another thought in mind to aid in opening the anal door for the bastards to slide out.
I had that done too. It takes three sessions, which I was not told originally. The first one went fine, the second one was very painful in the days following the procedure. It has been 5 days now and I have some bleeding which I did not have before and some pain which I did not have before starting this procedure. I was much better before this procedure. Not sure at this point if I will proceed with the third step. I might seek a second opinion. what the CRH O Regan System advertise on the brochure as a quick and painless procedure is not true, and at that stage of the procedure, for me, I am not sure how successful it will be. I was better before starting this procedure!! I should have done more research.
I had this procedure done 5 years ago and now recently again. The first time it hurt like hell mostly because I didn't relax during the procedure.. I was tense and the doctor didn't give any instructions on how to make it more comfortable, all he said was "This will be unpleasant" and it was. It took about a week for them to fall off and another week to fully recover, but I returned to work after the first week.
This time around I had a different Doctor and what a world of difference! As long as you relax as much as you can and the important thing is to breath deep breaths during the whole procedure, after I was sore but no where near as much as the first time. Still waiting for it to fall off but it's only been 3 days since the banding. Key thing is anyone complaining about it being painful and such, just relax as much as you can and breathe deep breathes and relax and calm yourself and your muscles as much as you can, do this and it will greatly reduce the pain
Is the band supposed to fall off before the hemorrhoids?
