Vaginal discharge changes during woman’s cycle and for example during ovulation, there is more secret than usually. However, the odor you mentioned is not so typical. It should be mild or there shouldn’t be any.

You may suffer from yeast infection. It is no big deal and is easily treated. It is caused by Candida albicans, which, along with a few types of bacteria, are normally present in relatively small numbers in your vagina. The yeast can multiply rapidly and take over due to environmental changes in your vagina or even excessive use of antibiotics. Also, non-cotton underwear, tight underwear, dirty pants can trap heat and moisture down there causing yeast to multiply.
Chemicals like inks, dyes, and perfumes, can also upset the balance in a vagina and lead to yeast infections.

Injury to the vulvar or vaginal membranes can cause it but it can be sexually transmitted.
You are old enough to take care of yourself now and I think you should pay a visit to a gynecologist. Every woman, no matter if she is engaged in sexual activities or not, needs regular genital check-ups at least one a year. I suggest you turn this into practice and you may as well check that vaginal discharge and odor and have it treated.
