I have the same. Only at night and in the mornings. Played a lot of hockey, tennis, and a runner, never encountered this and if it was a fungus it would have happened earlier.

I was told a year ago that my body is barely producing vitamin D and that's another challenge because my body rejects supplements. If I can be of help I will. I am still searching for possible interventions; not obessed with the problem, just looking into more insight.

Have you tried any topical sprays? My itching has gotten so much better by using a topical spray and also when feasible not wearing socks. No idea why they started itching at night but I am finding relief now. Best wishes.

Im 35, and I get severe itching in my feet and LEGS again, mostly at night! I want to cry sometimes its so bad! The other night not even my fingernails were relieving the itch, i had to use a knife to scrape up and down my legs to stop the itch, that's how bad it is! I hate the ritual of having to dowse myself with hydrocortisone creme, but that's the only other thing that brings short term relief! I too have NO red marks, bumps, and i even thought maybe it was ingrown hairs from shaving but its not! I've changed detergents thinking maybe it was a reaction to that (with bed sheets), to no avail! I am on certain meds that can possibly cause the itching but dont u think it would be all over not just isolated to feet/legs?? I (supposedly) have hypothyroidism and take synthroid, so technically I should be good as far as those levels! I don't know, it's just weird that I am seeing so many of us with the same problem! What the heck is going on? :)

I am so sorry for the pain you are going through. My problem has stopped and I am not sure why. Here's what I did though. I used a topical spray and that helped but also I don't wear shoes as much as I possibly can -- when I get to work I take off my shoes when I am in my office and only wear them when I leave. I have no idea if those two combinations fixed the problem but I no longer have itchy feet and it was driving me crazy. My best to you and hope this helps.

I rub my feet with a good coating of vaseline aloe fresh hydrating cream, and then I cover my feet with thin socks....its the only thing so far that is working for me.....I really hope this helps, I know the aggrevation that the itching causes, good luck with getting some zzzzz's!!!

I have been suffering from this on and off for about 2 years- but I thought it was just me! Its only on my heels. I know its not any kind of infection or dry skin....so its bizarre. Today I found out that my mom AND sister get it too- although theirs includes pain too. No one really seems to know and nothing seems to help. I just hope it goes away!

One cheap and natural solution I've found that helps a lot with the late night itchy feet is having a ventilator blowing directly at them: it seems the coolness refreshes and alleviate it (as with someone's mom iced water in this thread). I think it's funny how it seems to have a fixed schedule - it's not like when I'm getting relaxed or ready to sleep, rather always at 2~3 AM.

As for a cause many of you have been searching for: I know I've been weighing more than I should for a while now, and never had itchy feet before this. I wouldn't be surprised if many of you who complain about this for years have also been overweight for years. So here goes the mandatory generic advice (which I haven't seen here yet): eat healthy, exercise regularly, sleep a lot, relax with a hobby or yoga, etc.

Since my gaining weight I also develop a few minor persistent rashes elsewhere and after some research I've found out that minor rashes need not be treated by themselves, they are instead merely a symptom of a systemic issue. Since the rashes and itchy feet appeared at the same time I think it would also be the case. The lack of any local symptoms in the many stories here help me believe in this.

Just for the record mine also itches mostly at the sole and heel. A bit on top sometimes but never on the toes, where most fungi or rashes would be.

What do you consider massive doses? I to have this issue and also took Theophylline when younger. My feet have stopped itching with the supplements, but on occasion start again. Will I ever be able to stop the supplements?

I had same problem and did a detailed food analysis.  when the itch started I logged everything I had eaten.  Took time but was able to eliminate many foods fairly quickly.  Finally got it down to a couple of things, then ran a trial.  Every time I ate prime rib or shrimp, the itch started.  What I finally discovered was the only common food was horse-radish.  Heavy on the prime rib and lots of shrimp sauce with it.  After eliminating horse-radish I have not had the itching feet and legs.  Could be different for each person, but the method worked for me.

I came across this site on one of my many sleepness nights due to itchy feet. I had all the same symptoms, night only, usually between 1 and 3 am, nowhere near my toes. I thought I would try the Vitamin B approach that two people had tried successfully. That was 3 nights ago and I just had to come back on and say thank you, it worked! The first night my feet didn't itch until 4 am and only mildly. The second night the itch didn't start until 7 when I had to get up anyway. Who said you shouldn't rely on Dr Google? Thanks again.
