Some tanning lotions have a "tingle" added to them, not sure exactly what it does but depending on how much "tingle" is added to the lotion determines how many times the bed has to be cleaned. If you have extreme tingle in your lotion, your bed needs to be cleaned up to SIX times before someone else can use it or else it can cause GREAT discomfort. Some tanning salons may not know about this or may forget to clean the bed more than once. This could be a reason! Not sure though.

I have recently started using tanning beds and have the same problem small red lumps over my body which itch. They are just heat rashes, I get them all the time when I tan in the sun as well. You just a need to be careful with how long you are using a sunbed for and don't scratch! They will disappear on their own.

It probably is from the tanning bed ...I have tanned for years and a couple months ago every time I go to the tanning bed I get hives welts they itch so bad I scratch my skin off they leave white marks. Your skin is probably extremely dried out and can not take over exposure as its not processing the uv rays correctly. Just give tanning a break get some really good moisturizer and I guarantee you it goes away.

It's most likely sun hives. They're harmless. Google them

I have been tanning for YEARS although just 1 time a year for 30 days before going on a sunny vacate. For the past say 8 years I have been using the lotions and trying to remember back when I did not. I don't think I had the hives, red blotches and CRAZY itching when i did NOT use the lotions! The person who wrote about the hemp........ I believe this may be my issue! Once in Mexico I got a hemp tattoo on my lower back and the next day I was crazy with hives only in that area. Talked with the artist about it and he informed me I was probably allergic to hemp so I now i never get those tats BUT I did not even think about looking at lotion ingredients! I have been tanning for a little over a week at a different salon than the last 10'years and I am CRAZY with itching everywhere except where I cannot reach to put lotion. I feel like I have chicken pox. Lotion GONE!!!! I am going tonwait for these hives to subside and go in with no lotion and see if that makes a difference.

Hi I too have the rashes AND its was about 2 weeks into my tanning. I used the HEMP lotion and mosturizer and it just gave me the rashes. I did however use the stand up booth. I won't use that product ever again.

I am having the welps pop up all over my body, on my stomach, arms, back of hands, thighs, and even my face. I have been tanning for years. Every winter I tan to stay dark all year round. This year I just started nexplinon birth control. That's the implant that goes into your arm.. I wasn't on any birth control before. I didn't Think about birth control being the reason for my itchy welps. I started my tanning about two weeks ago. I go 5days a week for 9 minute sessions in a stand up bed. This is the first time I've ever had any king of reaction like this.

I really need this advice. I have always kept a tan,I tan in tanning beds throughout the year to keep a base. But I went to the beach for two weeks this summer and developed a rash, from what I thought was sun poison, but it took months to go away. So when I thought it was gone, I tried to tan in the tanning bed the rash came back in the same place on my chest and upper back. Im so frustrated. I know I shouldn't tan, but I love my glow. Please advise

Ive just gotten pmle for the first time about a week ago and it is just now starting to go away and turn into a tan, but I took a warm shower and noticed in the shower that small fluid-filled blisters starting appearing on only my breast area(which was the worst affected area) and I dont know if its a body wash that caused the blisters or the warm/hot water from the shower, I have taken previous showers and I didnt notice any kind of blisters till now. I would highly appreciate if someone could help me figure out why these small white-ish blisters appeared suddenly.
Thank you

I am deali6with exactly the same thing. I tan very easily and do not tend to burn. I have tanned in beds or outside all of my life. Last year this started happening, but it was outdoors and so I would blame it on the heat or allergies. Now I am into my second week of indoor tanning and last night the welts were horrible. They always appear between my chest, on my stomach and sometimes on my shoulder and back. It is the worst itching imaginable!, I don't understand it at all.. I usually have to take a prednisone pill to get it to calm down
