I had an IUD inserted 8 months ago 4 months after having my fifth child and I haven't had peace since then.I've been treated for uti twice and yet I keep having blisters on my Virginia and serious itching and I've resorted to using antibacterial creams daily .I'm considering taking it out cos I found out my libido is also low now I'm confused because I can't risk anymore pregnancy

I'm in my late 40s and have had the Marina for aprox 3yrs. I talked to a friend this weekend who also has one and it dawned on me from what she was saying that the marina could be responsible for me now getting bacterial vaginosis (BV) on and off. I never had BV prior to having the marina, it stinks like rotten fish and is so embarrassing. At it's worst it comes with a browney green discharge! YUK! I take Metronidazole which was prescribed from my Doctor when I get it, more often than not it comes after a period. Yip, even after 3 yrs I still get some periods they're just much lighter. My Doctor put my BV down to age and changing secretions, never to the marina. Getting the marina in hurt like mad and I'm nervous about getting it out.

Wow...why don't Dr.'s know this is such a big issue. I've had three BV's and am now on my fourth. They are horribly embarrassing...the odour is so so strong. I'm going to get this stupid Mirena out as soon as possible. I guess I was lucky because I didn't have any real problems for the first couple of years. But now the infections come back a couple weeks after I take the anti-biotics. This is so gross. I'm glad everyone posted their experiences. I kept thinking it might be the IUD but Dr said it was unrelated.

I'm on my second Mirena...my first I had no issues with. so after the 5 yrs were up, I had a new one placed. Nothing but issues with the second one. Constant BV issues and yeast infections and the odor and discharge are very embarrassing. When I went in for my annual exam one year after having the IUD placed, they could not find the strings...great... Unfortunately, I had to go in for vaginal ultrasounds to see if they could find it and make sure it was still in the uterus, so that cost a lot of money. I've made the decision to have it removed as I can't continue fighting with the BV as it's a monthly occurance. Back to the pill or depo. Good luck ladies!

I am glad to read these posts. I have had my Mirena less than a year and have had a yeast infection every month and it gets worse after sex. I am going to explore diaphragm and contra gel spermicide. I don' do well with horomones, tried copper IUD and had reaction to copper in my system.

Girl I understand I have had my mirena for approximately two years now and I have had reoccurring BV 3 times I am so glad I am not the only one with this problem. I have been treated 3 times and from reading these feeds I know that my mirena Iud is the reason why I have never had this problem before. I'm actually at the gyn for removal!!! Bye Bye Mirena

Seriously Thank you all so much for this information! I just had mine removed, because I'm pregnant (I conceived while having the IUD in place). I had my IUD for 4 years & the last 6months have been absolute hell!! I'm happy to hear that the Smell wasn't just me.I shower all the time and keep myself very clean I could never understand it. Last year when I went for Annual visit I spoke to my doctor about the discharge & the smell. He said "Oh that just comes along with an IUD" I felt lost. I have a very good insurance & needless to say I dropped that DR. I have always tried to do everything natural & cannot believe I allowed these "SALESMAN" to fool me by thinking that was best for my body. Please ladies educate yourselves f!!! The doctors are nothing but salesman to the Pharmaceutical companies. The pharmaceutical company's support our congressmen and it goes all the way up to the White House. We are just the test dummies to these people they make more and more money the more they push this on us. I will never allow anyone I know to go uneducated on this subject. It's not about telling others what to do, but explaining all the risks involved. Now I am pregnant and have a high risk pregnancy because of all the IUD complications.

Same here. Gyn says it shouldn't have anything to do with the yeast infections but it's coming month after month. Why do you think they keep reassuring us that it's not the IUD ? You think it's a money thing ?

I have had nothing but problems with my marina. It was inserted a month ago and the doctor finally took it out yesterday when I was admitted in emergency with severe abdominal cramping. I had a uterine infection and vaginal.
So much pain that stupid marina has caused me.

I can definitely attest to these problems. I cannot begin to count how many times I have had yeast infections and BV. I am at the point of where I think I am having the mirena removed. I have bee reading too many negatives things about it and I can't stand be in discomfort.
