I just had to get mine out I have had infections on and off for 16 months and when my doctor removed it there was puss all around it and I had an infection and many cultures done to see what it was I am not happy cause now i have to remember birth control but yes the smell was so bad I could smell myself while fully dressed and standing and if I could smell me then so could others I stopped wanting sex as it became painful and embarrassing
Yes! I have mirena and have been treated 3 times this year and am now on the gel for 4 months! This is seriously disturbing. I'm so self conscience and don't want to be intimate with my husband. Guess I should have the iud Removed! Thanks for sharing your story.
Hi, so I've had ongoing issues with bv as well...But, thankfully I'm removing my Mirena this week. Did the bv go away after removal?
My son is 6 yrs old, so that's how long I've had the Mirena. I really like the birth control but I have only noticed this smell more recently, close to at least the past two years, right before n after my periods. It wasn't always. Some months, it's the entire time. I have had BVs n they were threaded but came back again. I'm just glad to hear though that it's not all in my head. I shower, shave, use only soap, sometime just water. I am always cleaning myself because it is embarrassing. I will be calling my Dr. Thank u all for ur comments :)

I've had my more a since November 2010 and it's about to expire.. I e had the yeast infections in and off for 5years but only get them when I have sex... With my ex boyfriend it happened a lot and now I'm single and have noticed when I sleep with someone it happens within a week or 2 so maybe it's the combo of the Iud and another foreign object.

i have tried inserting proiotic pills every twelve hours and it has helped .. today i am going to buy the chewable style that has a strawberry flavor .. hehehe. then maybe ill smell and taste like strawberries
I'm currently having the same issues! I was determined it was from a cyst but nothing abnormal is showing in the ultrasound, I also thought i might have endometriosis, but the second opinion I went for, determined it wasn't, and he suggested the iud giving me problems. So I'm going to get this thing taken out tomorrow! How did you make out?
Hey I've had the merena for 2wks, I came on a wk ago it started as just spotting for a few days an now its more..my point of getting was to try an stop the bleeding, i would bleed 5 to 6 days every month heavy..
But now im bleeding after a wk an it don't look like its stopping soon..after reading all the replies im wondering if i should get it removed i wanted to stop the bleeding or at least slow it down but if im gone bleed longer then I was b4 I got it then that defeats the purpose to me..what should I do?

I have noticed since I have had the iud that I have had increased yeast infections and bv once then about a week later I had a yeast. This is also the only birth control I have ever had.
I got my iud put in three months ago and had maybe two yeast infections in my entire life. I'm 31 and I've had about four yeast infections since its been put in I thought I had an std or sti but nothing. Now my vagina smells which never was the case and I just don't want anyone going down there bc it's just plain embarrassing.
