Dehydration. It is pretty simple.

I just had this problem, this is why I googled it! It's happened to me before and I just assumed It was because of the gas/bubbles in the wine! Also I havnt drunk a lot of water today so thought it may have had something to do with drinking alcohol a bit dehydrated? Or maybe we are drinking the wine a little bit too quickly ;) haha

Hi I just found this thread as I am having the same issue and yes I am allergic to sulfa

Dill pickles get me every time. Rarely can I eat them without getting pain in my jaw. Wine does it 4 out of 5 times and beer will also cause the pain but less frequently ! I call it my "pickle nerve" acting up!!

I have the same thing. Since I was sixteen. I have found relief from sucking ice and placing it in the back of the jaw where the pain is. The pain increases momentarily and then it impress.

MY SOLUTION for this (not a solution but how you can avoid this). I've always had this tingling/pain in jaw sensation.. It happens ONLY if I eat something SWEET before drinking alcohol. I've tested it - it happens everytime.. after chocolate, cookies, cakes. It has nothing to do with alcohol damaging or "dissolving" tissue (lol). It's the chemical reaction between sugar and alcohol in your saliva glands. Few people have this reaction to sugar+alcohol. I mention it at parties all the time and only 2 people so far knew what I was talking about! Some people only drink at parties... ussualy there's a lot of sweets. So they think it's everytime they drink alcohol. Try it.

I have the same problem. I find that if I chew a children's multivitamin and a couple of chewable vitamin C before I drink, I don't get the pain.

I have a sulfa allergy and I do suffer from this kind of jaw pain after I drink wine. I never knew why, but this makes sense!

I know this is an old post but just came across it while investigating my issue of jaw pain after consuming wine. I do have a sulfa allergy which was discovered about 20 yrs. ago. It's funny that I have never made that connection. Just wanted to thank you! Guess I will have to stop drinking the cheap stuff.

I have this jaw pain and am indeed deathly allergic to sulfa based drugs.

Yes, I am highly allergic to sulfa. My tongues swells. I also have pain in my jaw with certain wines. I thought it was the tannins. I can drink most pinot noirs with no problem.
