Ok, So after years of this same sensation; painful tingling after 2 or so alcoholic beverages of any type - Internet searching it, I couldn't find anything that could remotely explain it, that is, until last night!
I was in an Uber with our Aussie friends after a night of drinking and I was massaging my jaw, because the pain was getting to the point that I could not ignore it. I asked them about it, if they had ever experienced it, and they were like -oh yeah- that's just your jaw muscles (the ones right under the ear that attach your skull to your jaw) relaxing from the alcohol. Many people carry a lot of tension there. If you ever notice yourself clenching your teeth, or if grind your teeth while you sleep, this is a sign that you are one of the many that carry stress here -without even realizing it. You drink a skosh of booze, and the muscles begin to relax. It this relaxing of the muscles that causes the painful tingling -typically last 10 -30 minutes or a few more drinks till it stops.
Voila!!!!
I'm surprised that I wasn't able to figure it out on my own, and even more surprised that the internets was only full of answers that definitely didn't work for me. /facepalm

Try having some vitamin c or eating an orange before you drink. I've found it reduces or gets rid of the pain all together.
This happens to me as well but more severe. It feels like someone is inside my mouth and sticking pins through my jaw. I can't even talk or swallow from the pain. I have to drink a lot of water for it to go away. So over time I learned over time if I take a pain killer like a Goody powder a few minutes before I drink I'll be fine BUT if I drink rum then the pain will still occur but less painful.
Thanks for this That explains my issue cause I stay stressed
I have the same problem after drinking wine or cocktails. My dentist spoke to an oral surgeon who said it is related to dehydration. This pain can also occur with sweets.
I thought this was the same thing but this is a symptom of lymphoma I was diagnosed with Non Hodgkin's lymphoma, specifically follicular lymphoma. Ask a doctor if this happens every time you drink alcohol it's the lymph nodes reacting to the alcohol causing a sharp pain in my jaw area it feels almost like electricity it's a pain unlike any others. You would know if it's a weird pain like that, it's from the nerves around the lymph node area.
This is really interesting because i have this jaw pain and a sulfa allergy. Think you may be onto something.
I am allergic to sulfa and this happens to me whenever I drink wine!
I am allergic to sulfa and I experience the same pain randomly in my jaw. It is unpredictable as it is not every time I drink alcohol--but it is a burning sensation. My first experience-- I thought it was either a citrus thing (because I recalled drinking corona light with lime) or perhaps there was msg in the salsa I was eating. However, I usually drink wine and it occurs once every so often when I drink wine. I know I don't have a cavity because I have regular dental appointments and x-rays and I have annual blood work done w/my physician and I am fine otherwise. I believe I also have tmj. I also believe I am oversharing but whatevs. :)
You are all dehydrated. This only happens to me when I haven't drank enough water. It's very painful and I thought I was experiencing some kind of lock jaw. Hurts just under my ears in my jaw joint area.
I to have this and am allergic to sulfa meds.
I'm allergic to sulfa drugs (have been since I was a toddler) and started having this issue when I was in my late twenties. Very interesting if this turns out to be connected!
does anyone here only get this pain/tingling sensation on ONE side? I only get this on my right side under my ear/on my jaw when drinking (cheap) white wine. didn't see any posts about it only being on one side which is making me a little more nervous.
I think it has to do with eating when drinking. I've had wine the past few nights and had no problem but tonight I ate two slices of pizza and wine and it caused horrible pain in my jaw under my ears. That last time I had this pain I was drinking baileys and eating pasta. Maybe it's gluten thing??
I am also allergic to sulfa meds and have this same issue!!!
