Letter received yesterday from Uro-neurology:

I had the opportunity to examine xxxx this morning in my pelvic neurophysiology clinic. I started out with a focused uroneurological examination and evaluated sensations using Von Frey monofilament nylon hairs which provide a semi-objective assessment of tactile sensations. As compared to sensations over his right index finger, sensations over the shaft of his penis both dorsally and mentally were normal. There was a distinct impairment of sensations over the glans both dorsally and ventrally. Using a neurotip, I assessed pinprick sensations which were felt normally over the shaft, but sensations were blunted over the glans, however, this did not conform to a particular dermatome.

The rest of his examination; perianal sensations were normal and anal sphincter tone/voluntary and involuntary contractions and reflexes (bulbocavernosus and anal reflexes) were normal.

Together with Dr Martina Lechti, his corticial evoked potentials were measured following electrical stimulation of the dorsal penile nerve (pudendal SSEP). The waveforms and latencies were comparable to his tibial SSEP's and I concluded the test was normal.

On balance therefore, it seems unlikely that there is a neurological base for this gentleman's genital numbness and therefore have discharged him from my clinic.
I gather he has already tried Yohimbine, Viagra, Caverject, Cialis and Pseudoephedrine hydrocholride and has met a psycosexual therapist and perhaps he may wish to pursue the option of sensate focus techniques to see if this might help matters.

Dude. Shut up about the glans not being sensitive. It totally is sensitive. Very much so. Loss of sensitivity in the penis is not normal, other than some that occurs with age. These men who have lost sensitivity need advice and encouragement to find modes of healing physically, emotionally, and mentally. Shut up about it being all about the foreskin. It isn't.

I did it about 3-4 times a day between the ages of 10 and 18, then tapered off a bit but at 71

Haha, I love that.

Did you find a solution?

Have had the insensitive Glans for 20 years after my paxil medication. So yes curious as well if he found a solution. Unfortunately during the medication I was going commando it a northern climate and not sure if I received any nerve damage from frostbite.

Thank you so much. This is what I had suspected, but every place I went to said that the Glans has the most number of nerve endings, but never specified what type of nerves they were. I have been circumcised from birth but have a small piece of the foreskin on the bottom of my penis, a bit below the head. It always feels the best to touch that, and touching the tip by itself produces an uncomfortable numbness sensation.
