I have been a heroin addict for many years and recently managed to put together 7 years of clean time. This was largely because I went to prison, got clean and when I got out I jsut stayed clean. I managed to build a life and family again during this time.

I happened to get ill one night and went to the ER with my wife. They gave me a shot of dilaudid for pain and that was it. Even though it had been all these years my addiction was back and withing weeks I was out getting dope on the street.

Now I have never been on any methadone and always have kicked sitting in a jail cell, which is absolute hell. So, I am considering the methadone program. The problem is I dont want to get on this for long term as I have heard how bad it is to come off of. ( much worse than heroin) I have been on this run for 7 mths now with dope and before that clean 7 years.

Is there such a thing as a short term methadone program that you can get on it and then tapper right away just to get off the dope. I just dont want to screw up my job as full withdraws makes it impossible to function at all.
