Absolutely agree. On 10 mg/day Lex for 1 month and I drink less because it doesn't matter; i can't get "lit". A little dreamy but that's it. I've never tried pushing the drink into the totally smashed zone. Maybe that's good.

I had my first awful experience with drinking and Lexapro last night. I've taken the medication for 5 years and then stopped and started again. I had two drinks and I blacked out. Thank God my husband was there. This morning I awoke to severe vomiting, nausea, and sweating. I consistently vomited for 10 hours and couldn't eat or drink anything. The heaves were so forceful I had bloody noses. I probably should have gone to the ER but I made it through. NEVER DRINKING ON LEXAPRO EVER AGAIN

I can't stand this! I am drunk right now and worried that I will die because my psychatrist told me I'm more likely to die if I drink alcohol and take lexapro. What a terrible thing to say. I can't sleep right now because he has me worried about it. I'd rather just live with my anxiety at this point.

This is just happening to me I drank two drinks and then the next day I was puking my guts up diarrhea couldn't get out of bed, now three days later my anxiety is in full force as if I'm not on anything.. In hoping it starts working again!! I won't be drinking again that's for sure!! I'm on cipralex 20mg for a year now. Did it star working for you again?

Strange reading these reactions. For me, It takes more to feel drunk on lexapro. Been taking it 2 years- 10mg for one, tried tapering off down to 5mg over about 10 months and now at 10 again. Never blacked out on it. I've had 6-10 drinks many nights over the years but it doesn't get me euphoric like before. More sedated and unfocused. I become boring at parties and get depressed when drunk sometimes now. its been a trade off with lexapro. Things are usually better when sober but drinking can make me feel simply bad.

Did you notice if the medication lost effectiveness after you had a couple of drinks or was it only the next day?

It happened once a month I think that I couldn't remember certain things when I drank alcohol. I started taking Lexapro a year ago, and since then the memory problems started to worsen. Didn't realize until yesterday that it was because of the medication. I always thought it was just 'me' who had these blackouts and has to ask every time after going out how the night was. However, last Friday, I went to my friend's place, had a few drinks. We were pre-drinking before we were going to a party in the city center. Next thing I remember was waking up in the morning with a guy next to me. I was worried because I couldn't remember A THING of that night. Couldn't remember leaving my friend's house, couldn't remember what the party looked like, whom I had spoken to and how the guy ended up in my bed. From 5 drinks or so... These blackouts happen so regularly that they started to worry me. So I searched the internet and stumbled upon this topic. Now it all makes sense: it's because of the Lexapro. These blackouts scare me, when I have a few drinks there's always a hole in my memory from a couple of hours. I can get totally wasted and blackout from 4 beer. That's not normal... It's not even in the leaflet! Therefore, I don't trust Lexapro anymore. What else isn't in the leaflet that should be in there? Started to phase out the 10mg I used to take since today.

What I also want to say: I have the idea that Lexapro isn't working very well because of the alcohol, but only during the hangover day (by the way; not very normal as well to have a gigantic hangover from a few drinks). I always feel, mentally seen, much more bright and clear. I can think more clear during hangover days. I got the impression that Lexapro makes my mind blurry sometimes.

What I want to say is: please be careful with taking Lexapro in combination with alcohol. Those two apparently often do not go together well.

I'm on 20 mg and have now decided to quit alcohol. After many nights of blacking out, saying stupid things to people that have jeopardized my job and friendships, many dangerous injuries, and almost choking to death on my own vomit (all this on between 4-6 drinks). I had none of this prior to starting the medication. I've had to make a choice go off the meds and be miserable or continue them and give up the booze.

DO NOT OVER DRINK WITH LEXAPRO ! I did on Wedsnday and its messed me up since! (Today is Saturday ) This includes increased nausea, not being able to think straight and having a hard time doing basic body function due to excessive fatigue.
However I have drank a little on lexapro in the past and I've been fine so moderation is key.

Otherwise I've been doing great on lexapro. Talk to your doctor about possibly taking it in the morning so you aren't up all night or taking a dose of melatonin before bed. Both of these things can help with your sleeping situation.

Good luck !

I have been on a different antidepressant to treat anxiety and a bit of depression too for the last 6 months. To start with i was on 10mg tablets and i felt so much better and drinking alcohol was fine, but after 3 months i was put up to 20mg and i have noticed i am sick prety much everytime i drink more than a couple of drinks and i black out and cant remember anything the next day(i usualy remember everything from a night out). Although i feel better for the medication i would not recommend drinking on it.

I have the same result. I've tested having just 2 then 2 then 3 drinks. Even up to say 8 over the course of an evening. I don't seem to feel the effect of the drink. That's not to say I'm unaffected, but there is no "buzz". So now I just have 2 or 3 over the evening for social, but drinking does not have the same fun aspect now. Take 5mg a day for the last 3 months.

I had a serious blackout while drinking on lexapro. I almost lost my partner, cause I got all violent and went crazy. I got violent at my parents house, broke the door glass, broke stuff and the next day I woke up remembering absolutely no thing, like I was ok. Then my family was mad at me, my partner told me it was over. I was obviously completely embarrassed for all things I did and how I put everyone in this horrible position of having to take care of me while being such a mess. Of course I was even more depressed after knowing what I did.

Lexapro and alcohol do make hangovers much , much worse!! Drink in moderation. Just a very hard thing to do if you are used to curbing anxiety with alcohol.
