January 17, 2018, I had to put my Boxer/Bella girl, to sleep. She would have been 9 on April 1. I rescued her at age 4. Anyway, she was diagnosed with Cushings. My vet recommended a diet of chicken and carrots and a green veggie. She loved it but she was so hungry all the time. Even put my other two pups, Lani and Lexi, on this diet. Veteryol. And some Adrenal drops from online. But one day/morning she woke up and would not eat. Stopped drinking water like she did previously. I guess it was time for her. I had a Vet appt. on Saturday. We decided to put her out of her misery. Her nights were difficult for her. I miss so much. I love her so much; yet don't want her in pain and misery.

My maltese/poodle has cushions disease & I have left it untreated for about a year as I could not afford it & the last few days it has been having coughing/chocking attacks throughout the day & night - have I caused this because I have left it untreated?
Thanks Maria

Thank you for sharing. My dog is 12 yoa. The symptoms of Cushings have been there for awhile, recently he saw a different vet (last month) and was diagnosed following a blood test.
Now I have to determine quality of life vs quantity, factoring in life expectancy in trying to determine if starting him on treatment now would be beneficial. Your comments were thought provoking for me.

My 11.6 yo Boston Terrier's liver tests are through the roof. She has the symptoms of Cushing's: Excessive thirst, hunger, panting, pot-belly. So, the Vet said she'd like Sadie do a Ultrasound on her stomach so they can see what's going on with the liver and other organs. I hope it's no cancer. The Vet believes it's Cushing's and the good thing it can be treated. So, the expense will be the hard part. I will do the best that I can and luckily my family is on board and will help out financially cause they all love her. She just had a biopsy done on a raised, hard rash on her neck and behind area. Thankfully, its not cancer but now to deal with the Cushing's disease. Trying to finds out all I can about it so that when the vet talks about treatment and options I know what she's telling us. The best to all your furry family members. To those who have lost a pet I am so sad for you.

My doxie was just diagnosed with Cushings and he takes Vetoryl. My vet said Lysodren is no longer prescribed. I had another doxie and in 2003 he was on Lysodren and lived only 5 mo. after being diagnosed. He was 14 yrs. old and my doxie now will be 13 in July. This is breaking my heart and I can't believe this is happening twice.

My doxie had an ultrasound done by a vet oncologist and he has a peanut size tumor on his adrenal gland. He's now on Vetoryl and he'll be 13 in July. He's been on Vetoryl 2 mo. now and I've not seen that much improvement . He still is constantly begging for food and drinks and urinates non stop. I'm so fortunate that i got pet insurance for him when I got him at 8 wks old. The insurance is now $ 98 each month and the refunds are triple the premium. The Vetoryl alone is $ 80 per mo and the special blood test have run over $ 700.00 in 2 mo. He has one again in 6 mo. unless he gets worse before then. As I said, his insurance reimburses me for most of it.

our 14 year old labradoodle Gus was just diagnosed crushing 02-22-2018 . Just like Chris's dog he is loosing strength in his hind legs. His left paw is turning in and he really doesn't want to do anything. Gus has always loved to go for a ride in the truck. Today my husband had to carry him in the house. This is so heart wrenching to watch. Over the past few years he has been slowing down, I amused to normal ageing. Our Dogs are mostly indoor dogs and I thought I noticed everything, every little bump and lump on his body. Since he was a young puppy he has lumps all over his body. We have had some removed, but mostly the vets have said they we were nothing to worry about. Now it is a tumor on the pituitary. I cant not think it is all related. My poor sweet lovable Gus. I am not sure how much time we have with him. They have him on 60 mg of Trilostane. this is the 4th day of meds.

My Gizmo was diagnosed when he was 4. He is being treated with Veteroyl. He just had his 13th birthday. He also still runs and plays with his favorite toys. Our first vet told us not to treat him. Thank goodness we didn’t listen to him and got a second opinion. While it is VERY expensive to treat. The love we receive back from him makes it all worth it.

I used this too and for the last 2 years my dog has been symptom free (except for his pot belly) but for the last week or so has gone back to drinking excessively and is now eating virtually nothing (unheard of for a miniature schnauzer). I have him booked into the vets tomorrow to check for diabetes...but I am worried this could be the end of the road for him :(

Sorry to hear this. Our dog was diagnosed a few days ago. His Cushings is very advanced. He isn't comfortable sitting, walking, sleeping... since the diagnosis we see him differently and have decided to put him down soon. The vet said he would have 3 or 4 more months with declining health and worsening discomfort. Good luck, it's not an easy choice.
