What did you use on your dog? For treatment

Hello
Thanks for your post. We have a 9 year old doxie diagnosed with cushings about a month ago. Did the whole nine yards-MRI and all. She is on 10mg of Vetoryl twice a day for the past 2 weeks-prior to that our ver prescribed 30mg once a day for 2 weeks. Obviously we are trying to determine the right dose. My question is what is the earliest you saw improvement in your doxies symptons(drinking and urinating)? We have seen no impact yet. We are looking for some hope that it will improve when we find the right dose. Thank you.

NO! It is caused from too much cortisol and it is not contagious.

I just lost my sweet boy on 9/17/17. I was treating him holistically for Cushings. His last blood test in June was a bit worse, but as his symptoms were not bad, we kept up with his herbals and homemade diet. My Mom was diagnosed with cancer at the same time and now I am SO guilty about missing additional symptoms. He always hated heat and I noticed him panting heavily when he walked this past July/August but as soon as he came home, he was fine, breathing normal. He also coughed a bit, but we chalked it up to allergies as he was delicate. One day he refused to eat, and we had him to the energency vet 3-4 hours later even though there were no other symptoms. He was diagnosed with pancreatitis, which he had 1 1/2 years earlier. I mentioned the additional symptoms, and X-rays showed a slight enlargement of one lobe of the heart (not bad enough for meds), and a partial collapse of one lung, possibly due to a mucous plug. The vet treated the pancreatitis, and after 2 days released him. He also started him on bronchial dialator drugs. He sent me home with meds. After just 5 hours at home, I noticed my dog was breathing rapidly and shallowly-- he never did that before. We went back to emergency at 2am. They kept my dog all the next day and I was told he was fine. They were planning to release him the next day. The next day I call and find out he developed fluid around his lungs at about 4:30am. They tried to save him, but he passed away 19 hours later. Thankfully I got to see him for 20 minutes in his oxygen crate. It broke my heart that I couldn't kiss him. I just rubbed his ears and cried. Now I am SO GUILTY that things that I missed led to this. The doctor said that it wasn't his heart, that it was ARDS, and that something just happened and it was too much for him. I know that I wasn't going to have him forever, but he was my baby boy, Toby the long haired 13 years, 3 months plus 20+ something days. I feel like he would have been here a bit longer had I caught things earlier. I would have done anything for him. I miss him so terribly. My heart aches so badly.

I hope you do not continue to torture yourself because you did everything you could. Think of this: HE WAS NOT GOING TO MAKE IT. THE DISEASE HAD HIM AND EVERYTHING YOU DID WAS ENOUGH. PLEASE DON'T FEEL GUILT. IT'S BEST HE PASSED AS SICK AS HE WAS AND THIS IS WHAT I AM GOING TO HAVE TO DO FOR MY BELLA GIRL. SHE HAS CUSHINGS DISEASE. I WON'T LET HER SUFFER. GOD BLESS.

I think that is a really good question. I never feed my dogs food or anything from china, but sometimes things can contain ingredients sourced from other countries. They need to make it stricter.

I know our dog was treated with steroids for chronic yeast and skin issues, and the steroids increase the probability of developing Cushings.. I think that more people take their pets to the vet and spend more money on treatment and treatment usually involves pharmaceuticals which always have underlying side effects.

If you are give your baby Veterol order twice the mg. And split it it will last twice as long but not twice the price. For a cheaper price Valley Vet on the internet may be cheaper. It has worked for my Misty & she has dealt with this for 5 years.
