I hurt myself in 2001 climbing Dunn's River Falls in Jamaica. When I got back home, I saw my podiatrist who said that a nerve had gotten pinched between the bones and surgery was done to release it. It is now 2007 and the pain has always been there but lately has been worse.
I went to a new podiatrist who believes it was incorrectly diagnosed the first time. From the X-rays and the bone scan, he believes I have an old lisfranc injury. There is so much inflammation & arthritis that shows up on the bone scan that he really isn't sure. All I know is it HURTS!
Today, he looked at all of the results and did a cortisone injection into the joint area that HURT LIKE HECK!!! I've had four children and just finished cancer treatment and nothing hurt like that did! Anyway, I am not quite sure what the cortisone is for. The pain is still their and the neuritis - that stabbing burning pain is no better. I see him again in two weeks.
If I understood him correctly, he didn't want to do a fusion if it wasn't going to fix the problem and if I remember what he said, if the cortisone took away the pain, that would indicate that I am a good candidate for the surgery. However, it may have been the other way around. All I know is I am in excruciating pain and it is getting worse. The nerve pain is so bad and can just make me jump when it hits.
Any suggestions, advice, etc. I would greatly appreciate anything.

Poor you! I can sympathize with you. Please read my posts on the two previous links. One additional thing -- cortisone didn't help my injury at all, and this far down the road, you may be looking at surgery since the cortisone isn't helping. Keep us posted on your progress.
