I had to be hospitalized forever my license three times in my life and I am just 24 years old. The first time I was diagnosed was when I was 9 years old. It started off as a simple cold I lost appetite I didn't want nothing to drink and then my muscles started to hurt me everywhere every single muscle in my body was so achy and my urine look like Coca Cola. I was in the hospital for about 2 weeks and they couldn't figure out what was wrong with me they asked me if I was abusing drugs if I was drinking and I was only 9 years old. the second time it happened to me was when I was 13 and again when I was 17. I have aches and pains every day. it's difficult for me to do daily activities. Even combing my hair makes my muscles in my arms burn. it's hard for me to hold up my upper body. I have so much weakness in my muscles from all of the breakdown that I've had throughout the years.

I was also hospitalized after a one hour spin class 3.5 years ago. I have had major issues ever since. I have had issues with muscle pain a weakness all over my body not just in my legs. I had a muscle biopsy done a year after my rhabdo and it came back clear, in fact I was told my muscles looked beautiful. They sure don't feel it! I saw a geneticists who said that unless I continue to have episodes of rhabdo they couldn't help. (So, should I try to get it again just to show you how messed up my body is???!) I now even have issues with my vision, my eyes won't work together for a distance. My joints now have started hurting at times when my muscle pain is worse. It seems to go in cycles. I still can't exercise for very long. There are random times I will go to stand up and my legs just decide that they don't want to work, so I will almost or completely fall. I have night sweats, very rare but a few cognitive issues, extreme fatigue and more. Just the last six months or so I have been having more constant major pain and finally told my PC that I know this can't be normal. So I have been to a hematologist, allergist, and will be going to a rheumatologist again. Everyone seems to just give up on me if they can't find a cause in an appointment or two. But, my blood tests consistently show that my immune system is actively fighting something. I wish I had a better story to share but I will add that these might be due to some other issue. I have had a few major medical issues. But, nothing like what it has been like after my rhabdo.

I'm a 45-year old sedentary male and contracted exertional rhabdomyolysis in mid-May 2016 from 3-4 days of relatively moderate intensity ~30 minute workouts (P90x type - push-ups and triceps extensions seemed to be the most strenuous) that caused sore chest and triceps and cola colored urine on day 4. I couldn't do a single push up at this point. I didn't go to the hospital but started downing as much water as I could and got my blood tested the next day (very high CK 46,000, high AST 800, and ALT 244, but normal renal function). I have kept drinking large amounts of water and Gatorade. The follow up blood test yesterday (6 days after the first) was improved but still high (CK 628, AST 61, ALT 113) and my PCP recommends staying hydrated and retest CK and liver enzymes in 1 month to confirm resolution. My triceps were very swollen for the first week after exercising and now (7-10 days since exercise) the swelling is gone and triceps appear to be smaller than before and somewhat flabby. I've been feeling relatively fine all things considered, but my skin is really itchy the past 2 days.

I am wondering whether my triceps and/or pectoral muscles will be permanently smaller/destroyed/weakened after recovery and am curious when others with similar cases were able to resume moderate exercise.

I have the smaller and flabby muscles, however I suffer from recurrent exertional rhabdomyolysis. Take a long while before getting back into such a strenuous workout. I was never sedentary, but actually extremely active and a competitive athlete, so it can happen to anyone. Your recovery sounds like it's going well. Continue what you're doing and take sufficient time to recoup so you don't suffer another bout.

Sounds like my story!!

Would love to hear more! I was also diagnosed with Rhabdo after a 1 hr spin class. My CK level was 75,000. Was in the hospital for 1 week and rehab hospital for 1 week. I've been home for 3 weeks. I think there is more to this also! I'm so tired. I'm a 37 year old female.

I also wanted to add that I have hypothyroidism and take synthroid for that, and was diagnosed with fibromyalgia several years ago and believe I am in a flair. The summer heat makes me feel worse. I also have a high rheumatoid factor. My energy gets zapped in the afternoons and I have pain in my body. I have had one follow up appt with a Rhematilogist but don't have blood/X-ray results back. It's been suggested that I may have an autoimmune issue. I'm interested in getting rhis diagnosed if it's true, and understanding what I can do long term to help
Body live well. Again- I'm 37 years old. Also, my hair has thinned significantly in the month since my diagnosis. Has anyone else had this experience?

Im a 34 yr old male.
I was diagnosed with Rhabdo 3days after returning from a 110km Ultra run.

I had been doing HIIT classes once or twice a week as well as running 50mile weeks - i wonder if the HIIT is a factor?

I was also using ibuprofen tablet and cream to ease pain on the day - is this also a contributing factor?

I had bruising to muscles , vomiting, blood in urine & CK level was through the roof

3 days in hospital with IV and gained two stone in weight from the fluid then discharged.

Three weeks later ive lost the fluid weight. i want to know what the dangers of starting exercise would be? also how do i prevent losing more muscle?
