Dr. Stickney did my parathyroid surgery abour 2 and half years ago. I had to fly down from Alaska and I not only had great results but was very impressed with all facets of my experience from the initial phone call to her office to the recovery room where I felt better when I woke up than I had for months. The testing day was hectic but by design in order to facilitate someone from out of town. I thought her office staff was excellent and I didn't have any glitches in the schedule. The Silver Cloud is a good choice because of it's close proximity to the Polyclinic as well as Swedisah medical center, the restaurant was good as well. I highly reccommend Dr.Stickney. V.S.

I recently called Kathleen Stickney's office and spoke with her nurse. Her nurse told me that Kathleen studied under Dr. Norman. I've been to the NPC website and it clearly says that there are NO surgeons who studied under Dr. Norman who aren't currently working with him at the NPC. I don't know who is telling the truth, but due to two opposing stories, I would not base my decision to use Dr. Stickeny on whether she studied under Dr. Norman.

i have Hyperparathyroidism and saw Dr. Szynter and she told me that we had to keep monitoring it but i was not feeling well and then i went to see another surgeon who told me i needed to have the surgery . I had 2 of the 4 para thyroids taking out and was okay for a little bit but now my levels have been off for months and i am being told i need the surgery again. This time i want to find a surgeon who will give me the results that i need and have this taken care. I have done my research and they said that the surgeon should be doing a certain number of them per month and that this should be their specialty. any suggestions for a surgeon in New York or Long Island

I saw your message and was wondering if you found a good parathyroid surgeon in the DC metro area? I was recently diagnosed and am searching as well for a surgeon who performs MIRP and follows her patients post-op as well. Where did you go?

Laurie, (2017) I don't know how old your post is...I am also in the D.C. area and was given the names of general surgeons for parathyroid/thyroid surgery! I have done my research and was leaning toward the Florida doctor, but now I am considering Dr. Yeh of UCLA. I have read about Dr. Larian also. Did he use a breathing tube and check all four parathyroids? How long was your surgery?

Hello, I know this post is from 2014, but I saw your surgery re-do with Dr. Yeh, and I am considering flying to CA for my parathyroid/thyroid surgery. I will also probably need a thyroid lobectomy as I have a large nodule. Did you have 'light' anesthesia, and did they end up testing your PTH levels intraoperatively, and check all 4 parathyroids? I love to hear more your experience and how long did the surgery take. I've probably had hyperparathyroidism for 10 years, and the thyroid nodule for longer, I've done a lot of reading, but I'm somewhat overwhelmed and have analysis paralysis. I am also consider the FL center. I'm on the east coast in a cutting edge medical facilities area, and I'm discouraged we don't have 'world' experts in endocrine surgery. My family doctor, endocrinologist and nuclear medicine doctors, all pointed me to general surgeons for the surgery! Thanks!

Dr. Norman in Florida is the only Doctor I would ever recommend! I had this for more than 16 years and even Dr. Norman in Florida sent the Director of the VA here in Amarillo a letter of Medical necessity they still denied my surgery! I had to pay from my own pocket! The best money I ever spent! My surgery took all of 20 mins. and they removed 2 tumors from my neck! Next labs my Calcium levels normal for the first time in 16 years! If your buying new tires for your car go get your discounts, but for this surgery there is only one Doctor who is the one who invented the mini surgery and knows just what the hell he is doing period! So if you want the best take a trip to Florida and go to Disney World after surgery as my kids and I did! they do have motorized chairs for rent there! Lol Good Luck on your search!!!

Claims of having studied under Dr. Norman are not verified.

She did not. He slightly knew her when they were first year interns.
