I am using lotrel to control my blood pressure. At the same time I'm on a diet where I have to eat grapefruit. However, I received a document which states that someone using lotrel can't have grapefruit. Is this true?
Lotrel is metabolized through some cyp-450 enzyme and so is grapefruit juice and when taken together, they fight over what gets metabolized. Therefore, the effects of the drug are either increased or decreased. Lotrel controls my B.P. very well but my side-effect is a very dry throat and cough. It is severe that I must carry water constantly to wet the throat. I notice facial flushing with Lotrel too.
