Wow! Everything you wrote down happens to me...I was sitting in class taking a test and BLOOOOOP! Everyone looked at me. I was so afraid that it was going to happen again. It became a phobia after that. The more I worry about it, the more it happens! I skip my classes the same way you skip yours...by asking to go to the nurse but really just staying in the bathroom. I alway's skip my classes that are longer hours or the classes I don't have friends in( I just get nervous). I've made fake phone calls to my dad saying that I threw up in school and that he has to pick me up. But really I couldn't bare with the noise. I tell my mom that I'm on my period (when I'm not even on it)and that I feel really sick so I can miss school. And that alway's works with her cuase come on she's a women, she understands. I also take tests outside of the classroom or an area far away from other students in the classroom. I make noises like tapping, scribbling hard on paper, or pretending to look through my bag cause it makes loud jinggling sounds. I make tones of excuses like "can I refill my water bottle?" "I have to get something from my locker" or I just get up to sharpen my pencil or grab tissues. The noises ONLY happen when I get nervous or worried! I'm happy to be in class when the teacher says "everyone let's work with partners today" cause everyone is so loud that the noises won't be heard. I make sure to use the bathroom (well at least force myself too) each morning before school, during homeroom, before class starts and during class (I make sure to ask to go to the bathroom when I know it's going to get loud). It helps A LOT! I know it's bad to force it out but it helps. Eating certain foods are the cause. One thing I kinda want to try out is Beano. A pill for gas or whatever. It stops the noises and gas from comming. I wish this had never happens but you are not the only one...there are lot's of people that go through this. It makes me feel good I can relate to someone :-) I need this to be gone and I know it only happens because of my stupid nerves and weird diet. SORRY FOR THE LONG STORY I JUST HAVE TO TELL SOMEONE ABOUT THIS!

I will be short. Just try blood-type diet. I've the same problems, didn't sleep over at my friends' homes because without the background music it got terrible and I couldn't listen to that, plus 24 hour a day gas, constipation and indigestion. Tried blood-type diet-everything is GONE! stupid noices, anxiety, stress, gas! This diet is a miracle if you're strict with it, no deviations. Get back on life track, people, forget about your stupid doctors who only stuff you with chemicals and poisonous elements that your poor organism doesn't need at all. Just google "Blood type diet" and give it a try if you already know your blood type

omg, i seriously love this forum because people actually have the same problem as me! my stomach was always sooo noisy. i mean LOUD! not even just like typical digestive noises, or hunger noises. these were like, almost moans sometimes! then the sounds like you're about to explode, ugh so horrible!!! they would come when after i ate something, before i ate something, before i go to the bathroom, after, didn't matter...there was no rhyme or reason. they were usually worse after i had been up and and work for a while, the mornings were all i could almost count on for being somewhat quiet. It came to the point where i seriously had to do something about it because i got so much anxiety from knowing i had to sit through a meeting. i'm not sure, but i think the anxiety just fuels the fire because when i'm not in a quiet place this isn't AS big of an issue. anyways, i knew i was DESPERATE to figure this out. i couldn't let it rule my life anymore. i was embarrassed that i always had to fidget around to cover up the noises. oh yeah, i tried gasX, but it's just not made for people like us.
HERE'S WHAT I TRIED....First of all, i had a feeling i was some degree lactose intolerant. so i cut out ALL lactose for a week to test it out. it's not easy, but if you want to get over this, you'll have to make a sacrifice somewhere. I kept a very detailed food journal and wrote down when i went to the bathroom and how i felt. i made note of how my tummy felt each day, in the morning, at night, and overall. I found that i felt MUCH better when cutting out dairy. But, day 3 of my lactose free initiative...the noises returned! but, they weren't NEARLY as bad as when i was allowing a little bit of lactose in my diet. so fine, step 1 might be monitoring lactose (cheese, in particular for me).
After that week i noticed my stomach was still a noisy mess! the noises were slightly more manageable but i still had the same constant unsettled, moving, bubbling feelings. the weird part is i never regularly have diarrhea ...just NOISE that sounded like i should. So the next week i decided to continue with the lactose-free diet (which isn't that hard if you research substitutes)...but i also started taking a Probiotic. I marked this in my food journal (and said what time i took it) to see if i noticed a difference.
I DID!! I cannot believe it!!!!! This past week on the lactose-free diet & probiotic has been the quietest week of my life! i am so much more relaxed and cannot believe that it has helped control my stomach the way it has. my digestion almost feels normal! i know everyone in the forum has very different symptoms and might not benefit the way i did. tummy noise can certainly be related to MUCH larger issues, but for me, the probiotic seriously has like saved my life.
Please let me reiterate my symptoms: Just NOISE! i had loud noise, gas, and bloating, but not diarrhea. My stomach always felt like there was something going on in there, like something was just always moving. it didn't necessarily hurt, except when i would get really bloated, cuz that kinda makes your tummy a little sore. otherwise, i don't think i have further complications. Please research probiotics!! the one i took is considered 1.5 billion (they categorize them by billions i believe).
If there's any advice i can give, or questions i can answer, PLEASE let me know!!! i want to help solve this problem that people don't think is a real issue...people who say "everyone gets a little stomach noise" JUST DONT GET IT!!
thanks for letting me vent :) Happy digestion!! and good luck.
p.s. a few other things you might want to test-take out of your diet and see if it makes a difference: Eggs, artificial sweeteners of any kind, fructose, glucose.
p.s.s. keep a food journal. it's tedious, but do it.

This is my second post on this forum and fortunately, I have good news: Stomach growling and gargling totally stopped !
Don't wanna be long, after some one and a half years of suffering, I found the solution, and it is a very simple one. I took the following prescription for 10 days and my stomach hasn't growled for 2 weeks. I am sure it will not growl anytime soon and I believe it was the right remedy for all those sufferings. I suggest you take the same prescription AFTER CONSULTING WITH YOUR DOCTOR. I take no responsibility on that but honestly I believe this can end all your sufferings as well.
1- Metronidazol. Take two tablets in the morning before breakfast and two others before dinner, the interval MUST BE EXACTLY 12 HOURS. Ask your doctor to prescribe for exactly 10 days, that would be 40 pills.
2- Bismuth Subcitrate. one before breakfast, other before dinner for 10 days. (may darken stool, don't be alarmed)
3- Pantosec-20. (Or Pantoprazole 20) one tablet before breakfast for 10 days.
4- Vit B complex. as your doctor suggests. Vit B12 is the vital one.
Avoid coffee, cocoa, and cabbages, they will cause your stomach growl temporarily and this may have negative effect mentally. but later you can have them if you like.
Also add some yogurt to your diet to help the good bacteria grow. Hopefully, in ten days, you will get rid of nasty organisms that cease your social life.
Keep everyone informed if this works for you.
Happy Christmas.

I'm a 24 year old freshman in college (not happy about that either) and as I'm starting to finally get over my once nearly crippling social anxiety I now have developed a quiet classroom phobia. Last semester, after a night out with friends and too much alcohol, the next day in class I started to have the stomach noises. They were horrible and I mean I was mortified. They were loud enough to where I'm sure people from a four person radius ALL around me could hear and a couple behind me even chuckled (thanks guys really). It sounded as if my intestines were on a loud speaker and they were going through the last part of the digestive process and cooking something really terrible in my body. So ever since then, I can almost nerve myself into getting them. I was so stressed about it last night that I could not sleep and the stress of my stomach growling in class brought on the growls all night which has never been an issue with me. I missed my first day of classes today because I was too scared and to let something like stress stop me from getting my education (even if it's just the first day) has really let me down on myself. I feel so much pressure from work and school and I just want to get my flipping degree and now I feel there is this huge obstacle once again holding me back from my goals. I am an extremely optimistic person and it is not in my personality to let this flaw get in my way of what I want and need but still I stress.
I've gotten some good tips from this site that I am going to try:
Sitting in the back of the classroom where there is no one behind you at least*
Use Metamucil tablets everyday
Bring ricecakes to class and nibble on them during the class day. Never let your belly feel empty where it will be at it's loudest
Take probiotics to help with digestion
Try not to take too deep of breaths as they can bring in too much air and cause more noise in the stomach
Stay away from gassy foods and alcohol the day before class day, 2 days would be better
Focus on class and not on your anxiety
I've also heard conflicting suggestions:
Drink carbonated beverages as they make you burp and you can get rid of the excess air. Don't carbonated beverages cause gas??
Teaspoon of olive oil? I'm definitley going to try that but I don't want to gain 10lbs either, maybe flax oil would work just as well.
Allergies. I think this may be the cause for many people but for people like myself who are in a constant battle with anxiety, I know mine are from stressing. I'm going to get tested for food allergies all the same. I'm going to be ticked if I have a gluten allergy, that stuff is in EVERYTHING.
I'll pray for all the fellow sufferers and I think something we all really have in common is worrying so much about this issue and letting it affect our lives. We are better than that and we need to learn to laugh it off. I know once I get to the point to where I don't think of it as an "issue" it wont be one.

omg. I cannot believe there are some people actually have the same thing as me. Ive been out of school for three year because of that. I tryied everything some thing work but not 100% and Ive also developed other mental problems because of that , social phobia, depression etc. Im sick of it!! For anxiety im going to a hypnnotist next month. Ill try a few other things ive never tried that some of you have posted. I hope if i combine all those therapies it will possible work?!! Cause I literally cant live like this no more!!!

Look what I found. This strange treatment can stop growling. Use "Chlorhexidine 0.2%" mouthwash every night before bed. I think its better to combine it with the prescription on my previous post. Can growling be related to the gum disease or bacteria or other infections of teeth and gum??!! please report if you try these treatments.

I have the same problem, and i read the long story about the 16 year old girl who wants to quit school because of this. I have the exact same problem as that girl, the only thing is sometimes my stomach hurts real bad, or gets these cramps/knots in my tummy before/after it growls. Im thankful its not soo loud, but one day i went to my school office, and had a chat with the vice principal. Suddenly my stomach did a huge growl and the vice even heard. I told her i was hungry, so she aloud me to go. Turns out, i was hungry. But still, even if im not, it growls. I espeacilly hate this certain growl it makes, when i stick my belly out and it makes this watery really really loud grumble! I HATE it!! It happens around lunch time. I dont get it, i was perfectly fine until this had to show up. I beg my mom to take me to the doctors. She said she will, but i cant stand it much longer. Every minute i ask to skip class to go to the washroom, as embarrising how it sounds i drink hot water from the tap in the bathroom. It helps for a while, but not as long you want it to be. I cry everyday why cant i be normal?? I'm in grade 8 and if i go to highschool, im scared this would get even worse. Please help!!

I have the same problem as all of you! I've never experienced something so embarrassing! I definitely think it's all in my head. I keep the noises away by constantly snacking on M&M's, Reese's Pieces, Skittles, etc. I've had the phobia of the quiet and my stomach growling since 8th grade when it traumatized me during a science test! It was an ungodly noise and SO loud! Ever since then, I've been scared of tests and lectures when everything is quiet. I'm a Sophomore in high school and I'm so terrified of taking finals and End of Course Assessments because of how quiet everything is. I'm absolutely dreading when I have to take the SAT's and I'm not allowed to sit and snack on something during the test and I won't be able to distract myself from thinking about it growling. If i can keep myself occupied with something besides my stomach growling, then I don't have a problem.. I might get some Culturelle, but I'm not sure if it's going to help me...

Suffered from these symptoms for years including phobia and thought it was triggered by some sort of anxiety, I was going insane. Doctors were saying I had IBS. Turned out it was h.pylori bacteria and now my rumbling stomach symptoms are completely gone after my treatment. It won't harm to get tested for it and at least you can rule it out
