About two weeks ago I work up one morning with a stiff neck and just assumed that I had slept on my side wrong. I could not really lift my left arm above my head without feeling some pain and (as normal stiff necks), I really couldn't rotate from left and right with out feeling pain. Commonly, I felt some pain under the bone behind my left ear. It feels like a tightening nerve or something.

Yesterday, while I as at Disneyland (and only telling you that because for 12 hours I carried a bag on my shoulder for 10 or 12 hours. Not heavy, but probably about 5 pounds or something.) I began to feel the pain more intense if my head was in a certain position. I had to stand with perfect posture to lessen the pain. Then I started to notice a "knot" forming on my shoulder (about where the clavicle bone ends) on the trapezoid muscle. It's fairly wide (about 2 inches). And just comes slightly above the surface of the skin. It's noticeable in a mirror.

Those are my symptoms. Hopefully there is some incite into what is going on. I really don't want to see if a doctor if it is just a knot on my shoulder due to muscle strain that will eventually fade, but if it can be something bigger, I guess I would like to know. I have been looking online but can't seem to find a similar situation.

My stats:
Female, 31 years, always been healthy. I don't really get sick. Even lately, it's been probably 5 months since I have had a cold. And years since I have gotten the flu. I have never smoked and really have not even been around smokers. I try to avoid 2nd-hand smoke. I eat healthy, work out a few times a week. Lately it's only been cardio like spin classes, cardio classes. Lately I haven't done any strength training. So not agitating the shoulder.
Hi there, I understand that you may not want to go to the doctor because you think that you may have a knot in your muscle, but it doesn't sound like you've actually got a knot. I think that it can't hurt to spend time on a trip to the doctor just to be sure that whatever it is, it isn't something more serious or indicative of that! I know it's been a bit of time since you've posted this so have you gone to a doctor yet about it? PLease keep us posted on how you're doing! Thanks :-)

I had a tumor removed yesterday was about 9cm or bigger under my muscle was not smooth but jagged. They sent for pathology. Worried was suppose to be a lipoma but when opened up was under muscle not on top. Any feedback cant talk to family dont want to worry them. Just worried it sounds more like a sarcoma than just a simple lipoma.
