The only reason why it was thought that women are those who suffer from compulsive shopping was that women were those who participated in such studies and surveys. The news study reveals that men as much as women suffer from compulsive buying after which they feel remorse.

While women shop cloths, makeup, jewelry and craft goods, men are more likely to go for books, cd’s, tech stuff, cameras, tools, etc

There is a pattern found in the compulsive buyers. Most compulsive shoppers become overwhelmed with the shopping but often feel grief and are distressed. They are mostly likely in their early 20s (at the beginning) and have incomes lower than $ 50, 000 a year.

Two main causes have been identified for compulsive shoppers: highly materialistic values and poor self-image. Buying stuff makes them feel better about themselves.
Researchers are saying that compulsive buying is a disorder that needs to be addressed. In some cases, it is linked with suicide thoughts. They are saying that both drugs and behavioral therapy may be needed for compulsive shoppers and that the disorder can be treated but it is important for sufferers to step forward.
