methadone and anesthesia

Ihave to get my Wisdom teeth pulled is it safe to take methadone and go under for 30mins with genral anesthesia?? I dose daily and need to know even if its just oersonal experiance any good results? Thanks and DoNT BE RUDE N JUDGE PPL COME ON ACT UR AGE~8-|

I have surgery tomorrow morning @ 7am. I plan not to miss todays methadone dose for tomorrows surgery. Will that help me for surgery? I can't get myself to tell my doctor cause she's a Biotch and she is totally them kind of Doc's whom gives u the look. I rather tell them after. At least I'm

Saiga....THAT IS A VERY DANGEROUS THING TO DO!!  You have to tell your doctor BEFORE surgery!  It doesn't matter if you miss todays dose or even tomorrows!  Methadone builds up in your system!  Even if you are not feeling any effects of the Methadone, it is still in your system and if you don't tell your doctor you are at risk of death!!!  Do not listen to the ppl who tell you that you can't die that way because they are wrong!!!  I know ppl who have had this happen!  They need to know that you are on Methadone and how much you take so that they can make sure that they don't overdose you!  also, while your on methadone they may need to give you more pain meds than they would a normal person because you don't get the same relief as someone who is not on methadone.  I totally understand about bitchy doctors who look at you like you are s**m and sh*t....I've had that many many times in the 9 years that I've been on the Methadone program (yes...i said 9 years!!  lol...I have been clean the whole time!!)  but PLEASE, PLEASE tell them tomorrow before you let them give you ANY medications!  don't risk your life because your doctor is an as****e!  I hope you take my advice....and good luck with your surgery...I'll be praying for your speedy recovery!   :-)

ive been on methadone since 14 im on 150 mls now and the doc said i will be put asleep with anesthetic.but when they said that with a diffo procedure i woke up mid op.i could not do anythis as u all know u have to sign a form but they have promised me this time since then im down to 80 mills but im on 50 mls of triptazol 200 mls of tramadol paracetemol for migrane diafene,xanax,clonidon 2 x 7.5

morphene patches......emmmm let me think(its a huge plastic box there all in....ant acids like nexium...god the list go on i have asthma and at the moment pnuemonia in my lung and i just had a spinal tap coz i over dosed and smashed my face up fallin around everywhere

 

its been a nightmare but ive been out and im doin ok i still drink but have cut down to 8 to ten cans of guinness.i also have liver scerosis kidney disease ive been smoking since i was about 8 or nine but in the x ray there was no cloudyness on the picture...cant think of anything else other than ive done more drugs by the time i was 15 compared to people who have used all their lives.im not proud at all im ahamed so i really and givin life a shop i have ambitions i want offf methadone.maybe someday im 25 now so wish me luck/or not lol

hi, ive had two breast augmentations and im on methadone. just ensure ur aneasthetist isnt one of those silly ppl who think methadone is enough as a pain killer for us that they dont want to give u much more.

sorry but i dont know why ur of that opinion, when you take methadone daily it doesnt have the same effects as when someone has it just for pain managemnet or to induce aneasthesia, i do agree they take it into account when giving it to u etc everything u said there,but dont worry you dont have to miss any doses or anything, u dhave ur dose in the morning b4 ur operation as normal and u continue taking it the next morning just as you normally would, no side effects, only problem i had was the medications they sent me home with may have been adequate for a "normal" person, but with our tolerance to such things it wasnt enough for me they had to give me more.

i just thought id add this, i have been on varying doses of methadone, as low as .5 and as hi as 140mg at the moment i havnt used any drugs for about 2 yrs and i am on 70mg. i had a breast augmentation in 2009, i went from flat and put in 360cc, when ur flat anything seems big but u soon get used to them and wish they were bigger. mine bottomed out as the pockets the surgeon made to put them in were too big and i didnt have enough breast tissue to hold them in place so in june 2011 i had a revision and changed to 560cc, im happy now they stayed in place they are not huge, just right. now in 16 days i am having my tummy tuck, butt lift (a different kind of butt lift where they actually remove skin and fat like a tummy tuck, and im having vaginaplasty and labiaplasty, so in total its 50,000 of surgery in3 yrs basically, that isnt usual for plastic surgeons to encounter a person on methadone usually doesnt have that kind of money, but ill tell ua secret, there are plenty more of us on methadone with that kind of money they just dont tell the surgeon they are on it. i know a person who about 10 yrs ago had a surgery done and did this, kept the fact they were on methadone from the surgeon, to be careful she had half her vormal dose for 2 days with valium to take the edge off then nothing the day of surgery then straight after surgwery she woke up and took her take home dose. she was fine but had an extremely uncomfortable few days all so that she didnt have to tell them, and it was totally unnecessary, because as i siad im having my procedures soon, ive already had 2 ba's and ive told the truth. i dodnt have to miss any doses i speak to the aneasthtist b4 hand and explain my methadone makese tolerant to the meds etc so every1 understands the only troubles ive had is the first bas i had they didnt give me enough pain pills to take home, so i rang the lady she said she wants to be careful as i could become addicted and the pills effects are increased by my methadone but i kepts telling her im in agony, she faxed scripts for extra pills to my chemist, the second one they basically looked back at what the records said they did for me the first time, so the second time we were all a little better prepared and it all went fine. this time im useing a different surgeon, he is wanting to be very careful, hes asked to talk to my dr my phsychiatris to ensure they dont have any reservations about me doing this, to ensure im stable etc, he also wanted to talk to my husband as my husband is not a drug user never has been and is paying for the surgery, i guess they want to ensure i have his support and that i am stable and dont use drugs and that my husband undeerstands the cost and what hes paying for etc, i was told the surgeon only agrees to do the surgery under the condition he can speak with each of those ppl. so hes covering his tracks he is a little weary, id say if i had never had plastic surgery b4 he would not have agreed but i think the fact he knows the surgeon who performed the last surgeries and knows it went well assured him, like i said he is a little weary, but also he is very interested as its uncommon situation he asks a lot of questions its a good experience for him to have under his belt too i suppose, i will tell you how i went with the pain etc after the op, but ill add now that if you go in dressed sophisticated, youre well spoken, they know ur not a bum off the street because you have to be doing well financially to afford this kind of surgery , and you make it clear you dont use illegal drugs only ur methadone, u dont have friends or associates who use etc and they dont judge you, they see it as here is a girl who had made a few mistakes but shes sorted herself out, shes financially and emtionally stable, and they respect u for that, it means you dont have to have all the worry or being sick because u cant take ur methadone, ur able to be honest and feel safe about it.

Yes it is as long as you have told your dentist that you are on Methadone and how much you take daily! i am on 180mg of methadone and I had extensive dental work done under general anesthesia and I was fine. the only way that you would have a problem or be in danger is if you didn't tell the dentist/doctor. they need to know how much Methadone that you are on so that they can monitor you . I hope this helps....and thanks for your comment about rude ppl!! I am on the Methadone support group on drugs.com and some of those ppl are the most nasty, rude, judgmental ppl that you would ever want to meet! lol good luck with your oral surgery! :)

hey can we talk? this is all knew to me and i have surgery in 2wks,I told Dr's bout my methadone but am scared i wont wake up or get the proper care,would like to talk to someone with some sense.,

I take 130mg daily for 2 years and was on much higher doses of mess for 6 years prior. Several of my crowns are coming loose and coming out. I had opted to have 3 teeth removed on bottom and have a partial. On top, 13 teeth removed and a full denture . The dentist used sedition and i was flailing and kicking? So they stopped and sent me to an oral surgeon. I Today, i went under sedition with stronger meds they told me. Same thing. I was cooperative and they had to cancel it. Now they want to schedule me for day surgery and put me totally under.i am more than a little apprehensive at this point. Is this problem common with others on methadone .? Am i at higher risk of complications being sedated ? This has me considering having this done with just nitrous and over 3 or 4 sessions. I would love to hear from anyone who has had similar problems or insight it.

I want breast implants I'm on methadone maintenance 90mg. Help what do I do for pain morphine patches.

Try skiping your dose before surgery, or let your doctor know your are taking it so they can use a different medication which will allow you to wake up easier. Just a thought.

If you are on methadone..you are not"clean"even if you are not abusing it.I'm sorry, but that's not clean..ALL mind and mood altering drugs!!

Hi.  I've been reading through these posts and I'm still confused.  I'm on 86mgs of methadone and I'm currently seeking weight loss surgery.  Will they do weight loss surgery while on methadone?   I've searched the net which is probably the worst thing I can do because it has me more lost than ever.  Thanks
