I'm on methadone maintance (90mgs a day split dose 45 am/45 pm). I had rhinoplasty and was out under. Told my dr about 200 times I was on methadone as I don't want to die. The surgery went fine with no complications. Of course I was nervous. Getting put under Thursday morning for wisdom teeth and half my cavities to be filled (20). Once again I told my dentist about my methadone. He may or may not give me painkillers now and I'll end up in pain so that will suck. After my nose job I was only given Vicodin it did not do a thing for pain. Wonder why? They need to teach these drs how to treat addiction/ methadone maintenance patients.

I know im replying to this late but for future references if u take methadone and are having surgery and are afraid to tell Doc cuz of his reaction. Tell him u take it for pain. Tell him u have fibromyalgia or if your a women endometriosis and those 2 things cant b proven one way or another if u have it. Endo is detected only thru surgery. Those 2 things cause severe pain! I know cuz i take methadone for both! He cant judge u for taking something to help your pain! He shldnt judge u anyway. As soon as a doc sees i take methadone he always ask what im taking it for! Once i tell him for pain usually nothing else is said!! If he treated me different after that id find a new doc cuz people put themselves in danger by not giving that very important info in fear of being treated like their beneath every1 else and it pisses me off!! U cant put everyone who takes methadone in the same category!!

I had my gall bladder out and my uterus, I was on 160 mpg. A day. I had take homes and I gave myself just enough in the morning of the surgery, so I didn't go through dt's. Both surgery's went fine and I need another. If you don't give yourself any in the morning it will be harder for them to put you under. It is a good idea to tell your doctor, but there's a chance they won't treat you don't care, and look down on you. Good luck

I am also on Methadone {75mg} and needing a total knee replacement. I am 57 years old and have been on the program for 5 years. My problem is that I have had 3 opinions, and all of the doctors looked at me like s**m and that they could not do the surgery unless I got off of the methadone, they called it "Junk". I called it a life saver and that I function so much better being on it. So, I am just going to start losing weight, swim and ride a bike. I spent so much money on hearing negative doctors look and treat me like street trash. I know who I am and its a shame that educated people are so ignorant themselves, and arrogant as well.

You are completely ignorant and must know nothing about methadone. As someone who is on methadone and is extremely educated. Calling it "mood altering"and saying those who are on it are not clean is laughable! That would be the same as telling the millions of people on anti-depressants that they are junkoes. You are simply wrong and need to do research or keep your invalid opinions to yourself. We are here helping each other and discussing a topic we all have common interest in. So unless u have something useful to say you should move along.

Been there but i didn't have a nice doctor in Ireland. I was also put on medication that absorbed or used up the methadone somehow and i spent 3 months in withdrawal before a lovely nurse (in a different hospital), the head nurse knew what was wrong and i was put on a huge amount over a 2 month period and at end of treatment that absorbed the methadone i was brought back down to normal amount in 3 days. But some hospitals have "NO" clue about methadone interaction.

yes, I have a doctor who is great now, but I am scared about adequate pain control for the surgery I am having this month. I am on 110mgs of methadone for years, eventually I will try and come down. My surgeon is not acknowledging the importance of pain med control with my circumstance; I am having a large hernia surgery and scared. The actual surgery will be fine because I have been honest, but being sent home will b a joke. What meds help with post surgery pain. This stomach incision area is so painful. HELP! What will they give me? primary doc understands, but my surgeon is an as****e...I am looked at like a junkie and that Pisses me off too!!! I have nobody that will help me after surgery and yes normal pain meds like Percocet Do Nothing!! What to do?

Like the person said before you, ITS NOT DEADLY IF YOU TELL YOUR DR & SURGEON!!! if you do not inform them you could possibly die or even wake up during surgery because they can't administer the proper dose of anesthesia for you to stay under. I am undergoing surgery in two days and I am on methadone (140mgs) and I et my surgeon know immediately as I met him that I was on the MMT so he was aware of my "medication" and guess what everyone!!! He was just as sweet as the minute I met him (before he knew I was on the methadone) he is the nicest dr/surgeon/gyn I've ever met in my whole life.. He does not judge me, and that is exactly how all doctors are SUPPOSED to be! and if they aren't I tell them right off the bat I will be changing you as my care provider
