I know no one has posted on this topic for over a year but maybe I'll will feel a little better if I get this off my chest. I'm on my 2nd of suboxone after being on methadone for 2 1/2 years. I waited till day 2, of being off my methadone to take my prescribed suboxone. An motha F'er the freaking withdrawls are a b***h. I can't wait to I get trough these withdraws. The doctor I went to said I should be ok to go on suboxone after being off methadone for 2 days and I dont think she knew what she was talking about. About an hour after taking my first suboxone pill I staRTED feeling like sh*t. Its been over 24 hours and still feeling like sh*t. So if anyone reads this, definitely wait at least 3 days if not longer to take suboxone, if your coming from methadone.
To all that ever may come to this post: Start with SUBUTEX then transfer to SUBOXONE... then you will not get ill swithing over. The Suboxone has naltrexone in it and it is this that causes the sickness. Any doctor know this. They are just pushed to only prescribe Subuxone instead of Subutex. Subutex is MUCH better. Take it if you can rather than Suboxone. But the best bet is being free from all opiates, synthetic or not. There will always come that day when you have to pay the pipper and feel the pain for all those pain free days you had. Good luck all.
** RE: people down a specific amount every two weeks - they take you down a percentage of your dose between 5 and 20 percent so when you are down to 20 mgs they will be taking you down 2 mg at a time at 10mg they take you down 1-2 mg at a time this because if they did not and detoxed as you described the 5mg between 20 nd 15 is a 25% decrease 15-10 is a 30% decrease and 10-5 is a 50% decrease- THE PERCENTAGE OF DECREASE IS WHAT GIVES YOU WITHDRAW NOT THE DECREASE IN MGS. iF YOUR STORY IS TRUE THEN YOUR CLINIC DOES NOT FOLLOW ESTABLISHED MEDICAL STANDARDS AND COULD HAVE THEIR LICENCING REVIEWED
Sorry to let you know I've been on the methadone program for nearly 10 yrs now at 26 yrs of age the clinics can reduce your dose at anytime they also can FORCE you to reduce and kick you off the program as they choose, you can also choose how much and how quick you wan't to reduce.....

ok,so i have a question for all of you and could really use the answer and advice ASAP! ok,so i use to be on the methadone clinic (i was a heavy heroine user for 2 years and then was on the clinic for 6 months and detoxed myself and along with that came the worse withdrawals i've EVER had in my life, seriously,as you all know) and have been off for quite some time but my old addictive ways came back and now i'm addicted to perks..just another, lighter, form of heroine(i hate to say this right now because i've been off the clinic for almost 3 years now,but i guess we all fall off the bandwagon once in a while..) of course the withdrawals aren't nearly as bad as what i've been thru in the past but withdrawals are withdrawals,i find them to be more horrible then having your eye balls plucked from your head!idk if i'm just more weak than most but they're UNBEARABLE to me..so to my question...i've been trying to quit this pill thing for like 8months now off and on and i'll do real good for like 5-6 days but then i'll go get one or two..or maybe even three or four and i'm right back to where i started..so,every time i go those few days without them it's because i can get ahold of some subs and they help with the withdrawals stupendously.i'll get like 2 and make them last for like 2-3days and then i'll be fine when i run out..i mean,i don't feel like 100% but i at least can eat and don't have the goosebumps as bad (which outta everything,i hate the goosebumps the most,i can NEVER get warm enough to make them stop)and no diarrhea(i know that was definitely wtmi but we're all adults here and we all have experienced this,if you've ever been addicted to opiates, that is)but i got weak today and did me up 3pills and i know i'll be sick sometime tomorrow evening and i CAN'T FIND ANY FREGGIN' SUBS ANYWHERE but i can find methadone so my question is,is methadone similar to subs?like, can i just get me one or two like i do with the subs and as long as i don't take the methadone for an extended period of time i won't feel any withdrawals? because i've never felt any withdrawals from the subs,i just took them long enough to get thru the worst part of the WD,which is the first few days...and then after that i felt a lot better, like i said, not perfect, but better.i'm just sooooo scared to take my chances with the methadone bc i member how bad i felt when i was detoxing and for like 3months after that i just felt horrible/weird/awkward and in a sh*t ton of pain but i also don't wanna WD from the perks either.i don't wanna WD AT ALL!i hate not being able to sleep.basically, what i'm saying is can i take the methadone for a couple of days like i do the subs to get thru the worst part of my WD's and then i'll be fine afterward like it has been in the past when i got the subs?i hope this made sense to you guys..or to even at least one person so they can tell me what i need to do and if getting the methadone is a smart idea or if it's like another form of opiates and it's just gonna make me even sicker?...i really hope someone reads this because i just realized how long this sh*t is..so please someone take their time to read this and give me their advice....
PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME...I DON'T WANNA BE SICK IF I DON'T HAVE TO BE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME...I DON'T WANNA BE SICK IF I DON'T HAVE TO BE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm sorry if it's been too long since you posted this to be of any help, but if you have read the other posts of this forum topic, I think you would have your answer. I personally don't think that switching to methadone instead of suboboxone/subutex as a way of avoiding withdrawal is a better option. Of all research I've done, (I'm a current methadone patient of 30 mg), it seems that methadone is very likely the worst/hardest medication of them all to detox from completely!!!
I know that sounds crazy since it's a legal "cure" or treatment for opiate/heroin addiction but from what I've read and my personal experiences and those of other patients I know, I would highly suggest you find any other alternative opiate substitute if you are not already in the methadone trap. My boyfriend is about to switch from methadone to suboxone in 2 weeks, and we're both nervous and researching like crazy to try to find solutions to our problems. I'm hoping his experience will go well, not only because he has a job he really wants to keep, but also because I'm not working now and I'm hoping to follow in his footsteps. I just think that there are too many clinics in operation to make money and as well meaning as they want to portray themselves, the bottom line is the almighty dollar. Junkies/addicts are a source of income and our country loves making money through any and all means available. The sad price of addiction isn't really their concern. I wish you the best of luck as I see you are also a mother, as am I. I don't wish this sickness on anyone, not even my enemies. It's far too sad.
One of the truest statements I've read yet is the last sentence posted a few people back, and it states that in the end we will all pay the piper for our pain free days.

Honestly my friend - and I'm just trying to give you help based on my own experience - kiss your vacation goodbye. It's gonna suck. Although, you'll need that time away from work to get better. From the point you stop the methadone, you should wait as long as possible before taking the first Suboxone. The opiate antagonist in Suboxone is going to counteract with any opiates still in your system. Basically - an instant withdrawal (or kick in the face). I suggest taking 4mg the first time, and then 8mg twice daily. I promise you, by the second or third dose of suboxone, you will feel so much better. IT's just the first dose that's unbearable. The more opiates in your system, the worse it will feel.; and vice-versa. I would suggest taking them as long as possible, until you feel ready to ween down to 4mg twice daily, or 8mg just once a day. Weening off drugs is not a science.
Your daughter was sicker than a dog because the suboxone put her in instant withdrawl. You see suboxone prohibits any opiate to reach the brain thats why if your on heroin or methadone you have to go down to a certain level before it can keep you from being sick. I'm on methadone and yesterday was my first day of stopping cold turkey, i know what to expect and beleive me im not looking forward to the rest of this week, i was offered to switch to suboxone to make it easier. I went down from 170mg to 60 and for me to get on suboxone i would have to go down to 30mg and have withdrawl symptoms so the suboxone could work, i figured if i have to go down to 30 and be sick i might as well bight the bullet and finish the worst part of the withdrawls which last for three days it takes four days to be over with all the worst symptoms like vomiting, soreness, and creepy skin after that your just depressed and have sleeping issues and eating issues but those will go away after a month or so which you can buy medications to help with those issues like sleeping pills or smoke some bud to give yourself the munchies, im stopping the methadone because it is in the way of my career, i finished truck driving school and i can't go get my methadone at the clinic if i'm in a different state every day so im doing this to get my life back and i won't be a laim and fail this i got myself into this and now i have to pay for what i did to myself, i'll be a better person when i come out of this dark tunnel im in. Anyway, suboxone from the doctor or on the streets is good as long as you know how to use it and don't be a dummy and take the sh*t while you still have a high dose of opiate in your system. I hope your daughter is doing fine God Bless you and your family, i know what your going through from watching my own mom hurt from my bad decisions.
this story sounds familiar to me....i gave up too,the clinic did not help me
Please don't try this. It's a very bad idea. 1 to 3 days after your last done dose you will start the rollercoaster withdrawl ride. Taking suboxone will intensify it big time because it will expel all the methadone left in your system immedietly. Iknow how bad the first few months were even without suboxone and it well bad. You want to have a detox profesion guide you with clonadine. But be carefull as it's a blood preasure med that can drop the bottom end of your bp out and cause death so U have to have your BP monitored. But it sure makes it easier. When
to the above mentoned, my friend was on 70mg per day, insurance ran out, the clinic detoxed him 7 mgs. A DAY!! was that the correct way according to guidelines?? we are on day 5 without methadone, ended up in emergency room last night pain was that bad.
My clinic takes me down whatever I request! That is legal in Cal. I would say the story is true .
No! You CANNOT take a suboxone right away. That's the most incorrect feedback I've ever heard. You must wait at least 36 hours without any opiates synthetic or not until you take a Suboxone! Methadone can stay in the system up to 30 days depending on the individual. Speaking from experience, I made the switch from Methadone to Suboxone and I was clinically advised to wait 4 full days with nothing taken for the withdrawals. I have also taken Suboxone too soon and have experienced the withdrawals it sends you into. That was also from taking Suboxone too soon after using opiates which only takes 3-5 days to get out of your system. I know this post was from 2008, and it is now 2012, but I pray you didn't take the advice from the person above.
How long should I wait to take suboxin From using methadone
Before you start taking Tramadol/Ultram (if you are on methadone) I strongly suggest that you ask the nurse at your clinic how it will affect your dose. I was told by my nurse not to take that medication because it has some kind of reaction or blocks out some of your dose of methadone. Just relaying what I was told.
Well believe her. My Ventura CA. Clinic DOES let me go down a specific amount every two weeks....they let me go down however I want. Weirs to not believe.someone.....every clinics different .......I did it.exactly how she did.....SO BELIEVE.IT
