I can clearly see that everyone here doesn't understand the difference between addiction and dependency. There is very real difference. Just because somebody has taken pain medication for long time doesn't mean they will get addicted. Addicts are people who will lie, cheat , steal, take more than more than prescribed when no increase in pain is evident. Addiction ruins families and causes people to give everything in life they care about like their homes etc.. Long term Pain medicine is for patients who suffer from chronic pain and need around the clock therapy to keep the pain in check so they can function, get out of house and do everything normal people do who don't have any pain. With saing all this, pain medicine has been a life saver for many thousands of people. The media and politics have brain washed citizens into believing they are addicted when they are only dependent in them. You can be dependent on blood pressure medication, anti dpressants, diabetes medicine and many others. weaning off slowly is the proper way to stop taking the medicine when you don't need anymore. But for people with chronic pain, they will need the medicine for the rest of their lives as many painful conditions and diseases do not have a cure. Opioids are NOT bad medicines. I hope more people become knowledgable before accepting them from their doctors. In fact? many doctors are not educated on how to prescribe these meds. They only get 4 or 5 days of pain management in medical school. This is why the country is having so many issues. If everyone would get educated about this medicine, many more people could have a better life and a lot less pain. I hope the future of pain medicine is going to brighter. If you have any addictions to any other substances? Stay away from opiates. You will get addicted but if you don't have any issues and suffer with pain daily? These medicines are God send. I hope this posting helps for many people to undersatnd the difference betwwen the two situations. For any pharmacy or doctor to deny someone the proper pain relief? Is a crime against human rights. The DEA is one enitity that needs alot of education. because of them? nearly 100 million people are being under treated or recieving NO treatment for pain and this is more than a sin when it's not needless suffering
I would keep hunting for pain doctors when your meds need be increased and don't give up. If you go see a new one? and they refuse to raise your dosage of medicine for your pain? Don't accept any prescriptions from that doctor so you can't get into trouble as a doctor shopper. In reality, We need to doctor shop but just don't accept any medicine but from ONLY one doctor and that just might be the current Dr. treating you now. Don't a doctor unless another understands your pain. There's no sense in going through withdraw IF you have any kind of pain! But don't give up. I would even move to another state if I had to just to be able to live a life with less pain. People need to start advocating MORE! Fight for your RIGHTS! Stop the suffering and don't be ashamed because you have pain! It's a sad day in American when it's citizens are forced to suffer daily severe pain. It's against our human rights and it's against the American Disabilities Act! For anyone wondering, there is no pill epidemic! Just as many people die from MRSA infections contracted from hospital stays with nurses or health care providers who have dirty hands. Yes, that is 16,000 people a year too. The idea of opiates being bad is a complete FAKE! This is driven by politics ONLY. A sad shame when medicine is available to help but Americans have to suffer because a doctor is afraid to prescribe.
