Hi, I am a fourteen years old girl and I have gotten my first period three months ago. It was very painful and I am very scared that all the next ones will be the same. A friend of mine told me her mother gave her Midol and that it helped her with the pain. Will Midol help me too if I try it?
Hi, it is very common for the girls to have very painful menstrual cycles for the first few times. Your body will take a while to adjust to the new situation. But, I am not sure that Midol could help you in your situation. You see, Midol is more used to treat premenstrual syndrome than the menstrual pain itself. Actually, it can help lessen menstrual pain, but only if you use it few days before the menstruation begins. Because you have just started to get your period, I am positive that it is very irregular and that you havent yet figured it out when the next one is going to come. This would mean Midol may not be the best choice in your situation. So when your period becomes regular you will be able to use Midol and it might help you with the pain. But, as long as your period is irregular, you should try another pain killer for your problems. Maybe ibuprofen could prove to be a better choice for now.
