I had the same issue and went to the doctor....the sporting she said could be it shifting and it has gone away. As far as the stomach pain and light headed.....she told me one of the main side effects is the mirena causes cists and she checked me and I have them.....that for me anyway is causing all the cramping and stomach pain. Mine are as of right now small and non-threatening but I'm supposed to tell her if the cramps continue or get worse. Hope this helps!!! (I got mine put in 1/09 so I've had it awhile). Good luck!!

I have had mirena iud in for 4 and 1/2 years.  The first year I had irregular periods, but it was worth it because I have not had period in 3 and 1/2 years.  It has been a great experience, but like many of you I just got my period for the first time.  No cramping or pain at this time.  I appreciated your posts, but wondering if any of you who went to doctor got explanations.  Just wondering if I should call my doctor or just wait it out.

Ovarian cysts are common for women during their child bearing years. I've had my Mirena for 2 1/2 years. I'm very pleased with it. I haven't had any problems. However, we are all different so maybe some bodies can't take it. I've recommended it to several friends. I like that I don't have to take another pill. I have had a lot of cramping lately though so I'm going next week for a check up with my gyno, I've been reading up on endometriosis and IBS. I'm hoping its not endometriosis because I don't want to have to take birth control to take away the cramping because that was my reason for getting the Mirena; I hate so many pills. But I'll keep you all posted on that.

I too have had my mirena for 2 years, with no bleeding,m occassionally a ligh t brown tinge after sex, and suddenly the last 2 months I have had clotty, dark red bleeding. I had the mirena inserted because I always had heavy, long periods and wanted to avoid the hysterectomy. I a concerned about what is happening and worried something else is wrong. Anyone know anything about this??

If you have doubts about it and think that it is affecting your overall health, talk to your doctor. I had 2 mirenas. The 1st fell out after over a year and hung loosely in my cervix. The 2nd one went missing and I had to have surgery to have it removed. All the time during them being inside, I experienced pains, irregular bleeding - where I bled 3 weeks of the month - fatigue, weight loss etc... Since the removal of the 2nd device I am back to my regular weight and feel 100% better... The decision is ultimately yours to make - and others of us have only our experience to share.

I have the same issues with mine, i had my son 16 weeks premature in sept 09. Had an iud in since 06, and got another put in at 6 week checkup after having him and now 3 years later i have endured a week every month of pains in abdomine and all the way down my thighs and in my back, sometimes so bad its hard to walk. Not a great feeling. I have set up a time to see a doctor because today was the first time ive actually bled with the iud. I havent had an actual period since 06 before i had my 1st one put in. So ofcourse im freaking out! But hopefully ill be able to find something out on why im having these pains because if not im getting this one removed and switch to a different, less invasive birth control!

I went to my gyno today and he said everything is normal even though I made the appointment because of the pain I was having on the right side pelivic area. He said that because a Mirena doesn't suppress ovulation like the birthcontrol pill you can still get ovarian cysts every month as an egg is released. He said I probably had a cysts that burst and the fluid from the cyst could also cause disscomfort until the body absorbs it. He checked me and didn't see the need to go any further with an ultrasound because I didn't feel pain when he was examining me as he was pushing on my stomach. I'm to report back if I have any other problems.

I have had mine in for almost 3 years now. I had a normal period, same time each month, and everything. All was well with minimal pain up until this past July. I didn't have a period in July. And it's now almost December with still no period. Howevever, I have HORRIBLE SHARP STABBING MUSCLE PAINS that double me over and leave me crying. Even when I try to use the bathroom #2 it hurts my uterus and leaves me in tears then as well. I just want to know if I'm alone with this or there are others..
