Monistat 1 - how long does it take to work? what is normal?

I have had a yeast infection before, but went to the doctor for it.
now that I have one again, I don't have any insurance. I used monistat 1 for it this time. I am curious just how do I know its working?
my pain and itching and swelling have decreased, but I am still having a lot of white clumpy discharge. I still feel that there is a problem down there, but it isn't crippling now. is that normal.
and with the monistat one, (which I won't use again) there came a night of no sleep because it amplified everything by 100!!! itching and burning!!!
so what is normal for a yeast infection when it is clearing up?

I used the one day insert yesterday first thing in the morning, and a few hours after I experienced some burning where the skin down there was slightly raw, but after a while I didn't even notice it anymore. And today most of my symptoms aren't even bothersome. I expect that they will completely clear up in the next few days. Other than the slight discomfort at first, I've never had any problems with the product and I've used it three or four times now.

Holy cow this is terrible. My first infection at 39. I used Mon1 last night. Idk I'd it I'd helping or not. The itching and burning isn't quiet as bad but, when will it be over? All symptoms gone? I'm just an impatient big baby an I want relief now! I've used the cream and the cooling wipes. Please tell me thus will go away soon!
Wow! I guess that I'm lucky. I haven't experienced any of the irritation described by other users. I took Monistat 1 about 4 nights ago and the itching has completely gone away. I am using pads to catch the discharge as tampons are strongly forbidden. I have a little discharge now with chunky white bits. Just waiting until day 7 or 8 to see if it will clear up. I don't have insurance so I wanted to use an OTC. This thing cost me $40.00 (very expensive). If it doesn't clear up I will have to see a doctor. I hate dealing with things like this. It is very hot where I live so perhaps I will make some changes like wearing cotton underwear or none at all on some days. I pray we all get this cleared up soon
I have had a yeast infection several times and tried all of the home treatments (garlic, yogurt, ect). I have taken monistat 3 day and didn't have a problem. Yesterday I opted for the slightly more expensive monistat 1 because I thought it would cure my symptoms faster! BAD IDEA. I inserted the ovule at night and didn't have any trouble sleeping. About an hour after I woke up I had the most terrible burning and itching--worse than before I took the medicine!!! I was on the verge of tears. The burning and itching has subsided, but it's still a dull pain. I am never trying to take the quick and easy way out again!
No, a yeast infection is FUNGAL, not bacterial. Bacterial Vaginosis (BV) WILL NOT respond to yeast infection treatments. They are two entirely different problems. BV is caused by an OVERGROWth of bad BACTERIA. The vagina needs good bacteria. A yeast infection normally occurs when the GOOD bacteria is killed (often through antibiotics), or yeast takes over (yeast likes damp, dark places). BV responds nicely to a 7 day dose of Flagyl. BUT, Flagyl can cause a yeast infection..l.I"m a nurse practitioner.
There seems to be a lot of misinformation. I am by no means a women's health expert, but I am a nurse practitioner with my doctorate in nursing. I am going to attempt to answer some of these posts. First, even though it is a one day treatment, It typically still takes up to 7 days for complete results. I usually feel better the very next day. The ovule is very concentrated and coats your vagina and stays in there. If you are having an increase in discharge, it is typically just the medication leaking out. This is common for a day or so after using it. I have heard questions about the color of the discharge. The color is typically white. I am thinking brown to red tinged is probably just blood from irritation, or your period, but I am not positive. That is something you may need to ask your doctor. The problem is, that many STDs have the same or similar symptoms. Also, Bacterial Vaginosis (BV) has the same symptoms. If you are having a "fishy" odor, particularly while sexually aroused, you can almost guarantee that it is BV. Don't panic, that is not an STD. Go to the doctor, he will give you antibiotics and it will go away. If your yeast infection hasn't cleared up after a week, time to go to the doctor. As far as sex, I'm unsure of how anyone could even consider having sex while they are in pain, burning, itching, and have a cottage cheese like substance coming out of their vagina, but to each their own. I believe the recommendation is three days after using it. I would say, NO SEX until it is cleared up and you feel back to normal. NEVER EVER DOUCHE with any sort of vaginal infection. You can send the yeast up into your uterus. Garlic and plain yogurt can also be used, but no tampons. Use a light pad, and change it often. Remember yeast thrives in dark, damp conditions.
Monstat 1 pre filled applicator I would recommend NEVER to take!!! My skin is peeling off down there, it's blown up 3 times it's size, horrible burning & itching!! I will never use this product ever again! I went to the doctors the next morning and the Doctor was shocked! had lots if cuts down there and inflammation. Just Horrible !! I received Fluconazole pill to take orally for the symptoms.
This is the 2nd time I've had a Yeast infection, the first time I had one was about 4 months ago. I didn't know what It was, I was scared, didn't tell anyone and let it be. It cleared up within a few days, no medicine. So a few days ago it flared up again. I couldn't walk, sit or stand comfortably. So I layed on my back, took a mirror and checked it out. My labia was swollen, burning, itching and red. It freaked me out so I decided to look up the symptoms, I kept coming up with information on yeast infections. So I bought M1, which was very simple to insert, easier than inserting a tampon. I also took Advil for the pain and slept with a ice pack between my legs. The next day I still had a little bit of itching but not NEARLY as bad as before I took the M1, I'm having slight discharge, so I've been wearing a panty liner. It burns a little when I pee. But the swelling has gone down dramatically. And I feel much better. From what I hear, it will take a few days to cure it all. So I sit and wait patiently. Hope this helps anyone out there with questions.
I took the m1 on Wednesday. Had some itching earlier today but used the cream and wipes things are ok. So we will see how things are in a few days. Discharge like everyone else. I am a diabetic so yeast infections happen often. Just want it gone. No more burning and swelling yay!
Ok I am back. Day 6. No crumbly discharge. Actually no discharge. But when I checked deep inside there was still a little so I will see in a few more days. No itching, no burning, no discharge so I guess it's gone. Hoping.
What you're experiencing is normal. 1. The reason why you may have had an increase in burning and itching after inserting the monistat 1 egg is because some women are allergic to the casing (not the monistat itself) which causes a temporary increase in burning and itching. Luckily it goes away within an hour or so but apparently it's miserable. 2. You will continue to have "discharge" several days to a week after treatment. This is the medicine doing it's job and it takes time to flush out of your vagina. If you're still experiencing itching and burning after a few days, I'd recommend seeing your doctor. And please girls, do not put yogurt or garlic inside of your vagina! Food is meant to be inserted into your mouth and no where else. Hope this helps.
So I got a yeast infection from trying a new soap combined with panty liners and bathing and shaving my legs in the bath too! The doctor said I was bound to breed a yeast infection and I was feeding it to! Lol!
So Before I went to the doc I tried to cure it myself with MONISTAT 1. Cause I was really itchy! The itch up in there on the walls that you just couldn't scratch! (TMI! I know but I'm only trying to help those when I was going through this and experienced HORRIBLE symptoms, I was searching these boards too!) On Saturday night I inserted the oval egg in there like you would a tampon. It did have a burning sensation but not like horrible.. It was more like a strong warming down there, it still itched like crazy! Second day the burning sensation was still there but was not a hot. But was still itchy up there...now I was getting the think white discharge of the pill... The third day burning was gone but still itchy... Now I was getting worried! Forth day the itchiness went away a bit but still annoying! Now I made the doctors appointment for Friday! Cause I was getting scared! I even had a pin drop of blood because of the irritation. So I did rub my crotch some cause the itching was fierce ( way TMI,I know) but there was nothing else but white discharge from the pill.... So At the docs she gave me a pap, while she was there she said I was quite yeasty and gave my a prescription for Diflucan. I didn't take it bc she said to not mix it with alcohol( I was going out that night, and I had a wedding to go to on Saturday) so I wanted to wait till Monday... I plan I taking it tomorrow! However funny thing is I stopped itching on Friday and was feeling back to normal on Saturday! Sunday I was my old self again with out taking the prescribed pill. So it does take 7 days! But I am still going to take the pill tomorrow! I will give the update!
I took time to write this long response because this was exactly the info I was looking for. I was scared and had never had a yeast infection, I am 27 and searched to web and seen some good responses and some stuff that scared the H%! ? out of me! I though I had every disease in the book reading some of these post boards. The thing is, I believe it takes 7 full days, and if you see no results within 5 or 6 days you should schedule an appointment. I know it is scary, I was too, but just do it so you can get it knocked out with antibiotics!
Hope this helps! And don't worry, it will be okay:) relief will come soon!
The only thing that helped me after suffering for two days was Benadryl and cortisone cream for my vulva.... I thought I was going to die... FYI... I drank children's Benadryl, It tastes yummy lol
