Hey guys, has anyone else had their tonsils removed recently (in the last 6 months)? I did and i picked up a nasty chest infection with a really hoarse cough, at first i thought it was irritation from that but as you've all mentioned i had a really nasty cramp one morning on one side of the throat (the right side) and it has been more of an uncomfortable pain since.
Also does anyone else feel it tighten up when they yawn?? I went to a physio recently and he noted that i had a very tight neck. I'm seeing a ENT on friday hopefully he can provide some clarity to the situation and treatment.
Thnx for the posts!
My pain is almost unbearable. I cant go to the doctor, broke as c**p, and I'm only 19 so no age issues. My ear pluses, I can barely swallow, and I cant move my head without pain. Cant sleep due to pain either. :(
I have had this same pain for about 3 years off and on. It hurts more when I sneeze also and also pain in right ear when I sneeze. Does it hurt when you touch the are wher the pain is?? Does it hur whae you swallow?
I've read this entire blog several times as I have the same problem and have the pain on the left hand side. I have just woken from a sleep and now hurts more despite rest, and the discomfort now goes into my ear when I swallow.
I have had a heavy cold for the last week, the main focus of which has been a lot of coughing, although that has subsided a little now, but still have occasional cough. There are no white spots in my throat area which I would expect if I had a bacterial infection. The strain of coughing would seem to fit with other explanations in this blog that this is a muscular problem in the throat and not part of a cold, sore throat, viral thing or a growth.
I note there is an entry in this blog from four months ago which mentions a chiropractor and was wondering if the chiropractor then advised, or if anyone else has had any guidance from a doctor or physiotherapist which advises, on any exercise or physical moves to correct the muscle disfunction which seams to be causing this problem from many bloggers?
The pain for me only subsides when taking paracetamol but never completely and when it wears off, I'm back to where I started with the pain, if not worse. I cannot take Ibuprofen because of a gastric problem which worsens with Ibuprofen.
I would welcome any further comments on how people actually recovered rather than many repetitions of having the same problem!!
I am experiencing the same as you. I have had this pain off and on for about 3 years, but for the past month it has increased in intensity.
I also have the pain when I swallow. My doctor is sending me for an ultra sound and if that shows nothing off to the ENT.
loong time, no 1 have solution?
i have had this exact same problem for more than a year.. some1 please post on how they gor this fixed... :s
I got rid of it, and it did not come back since. It seem to be a swollen lymph node on the outside of the throat more on the side of the adams apple/pulse area. My doctor prescribed me some anti-biotics and after I went through the whole regimen after about 7 days. It was gone. Just remember to take the full course/shedule of anti biotics recommended by your doctor, and never take them just when you have pain because that can cause your immune system to become immune to the anti biotic and it wont work. When taking them always remember to do the full schedule as recommended by your doctor, never pop them like popping an advil just for pain.

I am a nationally certified massage therapist and have been practicing for 10 years and this problem is more than likely muscular in most of the responses I've read here. there are small quick reflex muscles behind your throat. this problem will cause pain when you turn your head one direction and usually when you tip your head back, when you swallow, shake your head quickly, it will also cause problems down the neck into the shoulder and shoulderblade and further down the back in some extreme cases. basically it is an injury that is very very similar to whiplash and involves many of the same muscles. I would call a local certified massage therapist or sports injury person and get their opinion :) hope this helps some folks get this injury treated.
Well, all of you have described the exact same neck pain and sore throat when swallowing that I have had for the past 3 weeks. I was mowing grass over a very bumpy lawn when something tightened up in the right side of my neck and cause severe pain. Some ibuprofen relieved it some but it didn't go away so I went to the Dr and he said the side of my throat was very red and my neck glands were swollen. He felt it was an infection starting so he prescribed an antibotic. It has been 7 days and still no relief. I think all of you are on the right page that it could be muscular. I don't know what my next move will be. Keep posting information and we may all benefit.
Wait! DOD you find out what's wrong? I'm exactly like that! Right side and stuff! I've been getting anxiety attacks about it so I really want to know what's going on :( I'm only 14 so it's scary for me.
my pain started in August 2014 when i was on holiday, when i swallowed i felt a little discomfort in the right had side of my adams apple.
i didnt feel it when drinking or eating though
i went to the doctor and at first she thought it may have something to do with snoring but prescribed my a weeks course of penicilin
this had no affect and i went back and she prescribed some Deflam throat spary which again didnt really do anything, im seeing ENT in January 2015
the pain is only when swallowing especially when i have a dry throat, all though recently it occurrs more and i have a dull ache which seems to go from the adams apple towards my ear, i have noticed though because i only drink at weekends it occurs just after the weekend and seems to go towards the end f the week then come back again after the weekend. i find it very worrying and also very puzzling
I have the same pain, only get better when i take tylenol 500mg, this happen after a week of a really bad flu, will wait a few more days to see if it goes away,if no will have to go see the doctor.
